Late 80's. In a record store looking for new music, then this album started playing over the sound system. So lush, it became the soundtrack to the summer I spent chasing my crazy beautiful girlfriend. She got away but i still have this music and some wonderful memories.
Why were these guys not bigger? They had everything you wanted in a pop band, the look, the sound, and the writing chops. Saw these guys in 1990 at The Back Door at SDSU (San Diego, CA) with my best mate. Met Gary Newby backstage and he couldn’t have been nicer or more humble. So much talent not fully developed but at least we have a few remaining gems like In The Meantime. Always reminded me a little bit of a cross between older New Order and The Smith’s. Gary the the fellas, thanks for the memories!
In 1992, EMI bought Virgin (their record label at the time). They were simply dropped from the label even after scoring a #1 song on the Modern Rock chart in the US in 1990. The main culprit is the explosion of grunge, which ruined alternative radio. The band broke up soon after, and Gary continued the Railway Children alone.
You know I can't see When you shake that flag in front of my eyes When you multiply the enemy Just to divide Who cares about the you and me In the meantime Who cares about the you and me In the meantime I see that outer skin's growing white hot Let's make it the last time Now these argument's just caved in But you don't realise Who cares about the you and me In the meantime Who cares about the you and me In thе meantime You know it's hard to beliеve You could shake like that in front of my eyes Can you tell me what we're looking for a second time Who cares about the you and me In the meantime Who cares about the you and me In the meantime In the meantime In the meantime In the meantime
Another band that didn't get the exposure they should've, along with the likes of Love and Money, The Adventures, Goodbye Mr McKenzie, The Blue Nile and others...

Yeah I can hear similarities to The Smiths, especially the guitar. But I prefer Gary Newby's voice to Morrissey. And song for song I think these guys are better than The Smiths.
Ughn. No. Not better than The Smiths. The guitar playing is not similar. The production of the guitar is. Newby still is the toppermost of the poppermost. Not a contest.

More than likely the nonsense grunge scene. Same happened to The Connells in my opinion.

One of the best albums of the 80s
Saw them supporting OMD at the NEC Arena in 1990. Still love 'Every Beat of The Heart'
All of your songs are very nice..
You know I can't see
When you shake that flag in front of my eyes
When you multiply the enemy
Just to divide
Who cares about the you and me
In the meantime
Who cares about the you and me
In the meantime
I see that outer skin's growing white hot
Let's make it the last time
Now these argument's just caved in
But you don't realise
Who cares about the you and me
In the meantime
Who cares about the you and me
In thе meantime
You know it's hard to beliеve
You could shake like that in front of my eyes
Can you tell me what we're looking for a second time
Who cares about the you and me
In the meantime

I found this great album by coincidence at the end of the eighties. I really enjoyed their sound. I listened to their music millions of times.
First band I ever saw play live. Bluecoat Arts Centre in Liverpool, late 1987. Sounds as good 30 years on as it did then.
such an incredible band, wish they were still doing music
These guys are incredible!!! Can't stop listening!!! Where the....has this music been?
They sound so much like the Smiths ! This song reminds me of "hand the rocks the cradle" - Beautiful !
Truly an unheralded band with that jangle pop/post-punk sensibility.
I could listen to this song all day. Makes me wanna go back to the good old days. Love those guitars!
i'm so hooked on this! i love songs with this sound
joelsantiago
still gives me the goosebumps....great song from an unforgettable era....80s....
Love this song so much 😍
Que tal banda, que tal grupaso, de los mejores de los 80s
Julio Carlos Que Grupaso , extraño esos tiempasos
one of my favorites
I was instructed to watch and listen by my very good friend on Soundcloud!
Jangly is good! Reminds me of a rocky version of The Bible. Cool.
Railway Children, que buena música, que tales acordes...grupo poco conocido por estos lares, pero de gran nivel...obviamente ochentero.
the vocals are heavenly, ihad never listened to them, now i am in love...my heart sighs because my beloved is far from me...in the meantime...sigh.
Nice Guitar, nice voice, nice looking singer, what's not to like :)
Es como volver a los buenos años de la musica en Inglaterra
One of my all time favorite, Under Rated songs!
