I remember hearing this song on college radio back in the late 80s... I cannot begin to tell you how much this song and your albums meant to me back then. The combination of jangly pop and amazing singing was everything that struck straight to my heart. Still a fan after all these years. Thank you so much for your music.
Just out of curiosity, did you mean college radio in the US? I love The Railway Children too but was only 9 years old back then and didn't discover them till I listened to 'Every Beat Of The Heart' after learning it hit #1 on the Billboard Modern Rock chart in 1990. 'A Pleasure-In The Meantime' promo CD was sent to modern rock stations in the US and 'A Pleasure' was in heavy rotation. What is your memory of all this?
@@fv6125 yes I was living in Atlanta, GA and the Georgia State University radio station in Atlanta would play students’ choice of music and I could hear a lot of great music that wasn’t being played on other commercial radio stations. Specifically speaking of Railway Children, most of what I was exposed to was their second album, Recurrence.
It's funny because I found them by looking up music from my birth year two years ago and I have been hooked since finding Recurrence. Just another lovely find and I have heard so much music even in my 32 years of life of all sorts of genres but this..... music like this just hits the soul. First song I heard was Somewhere South and it just went on.....
A promo single was released in the US that contains this song and A Pleasure. A Pleasure turned out a hit on both commercial and college rock stations.
“Who cares about you and me……in the meantime - hiiiiime !: Who cares about you and me in the meantime …. Himmmme !” this just plays over and over in my head. This line is iconic.
One of the best albums ever been produced. I found them in a record shop downtown Hamburg. I was checking out all the records which has been connected with a headphone. That must have been at the end of the 80s. I was looking for new Indie-Bands and found that beautiful Album. I often ask myself, where are The Railway Children in the meantime? What has happened to those musicians? You are great, i have listened so many times to that melodic record. Every single track is kind of a hitsingle.
Im Wikipedia-Artikel über die Band steht: "In 2016, the original line up of Newby, Keegan, Hull and Bateman began rehearsing together and went on to play several times, including the NYC Popfest, the Shiiine On Weekender and concerts in Manchester, Berlin and London." Sie sind also noch aktiv, glücklicherweise 😊

holy sh* LUSH. I saw Lush in NYC, but these guys didn't open for them, I don't think... That whole era. Ride. My Bloody Valentine. Wasn't it referred to genre wise as "Dream Pop"?

friends of mine played this song in San Antonio at a HS Prom, it was such a big hit, whole room did slow waltz to it, such a moment and glad I saw it
