My first carburetor rebuild was on a 1979 Dodge Ramcharger. It was pretty easy, but I was panicking about why the rebuild kit had so many extra parts. Come to find out, the kit was for many different models of carburetors of different years, and the extras were for those other models. Live and learn from that first carb rebuild.
You are correct, the needle seat is meant to be pushed through hole the main jet hole from underneath. Fixed it after the time of filming. Good eye sir!
Needle jet goes in from the top? Like it just sets there around the needle? I thought it set in the bottom and got pushed in place by the needle jet holder
I was a little nervous about doing this but I own 3 Harleys and it's a shame that the Harley shop here in Sioux city iowa won't work on anything that isn't new Roosters Harley is the one I'm talking about so I have to try can't get the casings off my sportster it's froze up on the shifter it's a 1986 XLR my wife bought it for me before she passed away so I don't want to give up on it needs the primary tensioner is all but have to get casing off first please any ideas been trying for a year now
Great video, just rebuilt my '06 1200 carb and now it dumps gas out of the overflow when I attempt to start it. I've triple checked the float level and it seems fine. I replaced the enrichening cable during the process as well. Any suggestions on what else to check?
Check your float needle and float bowel gasket that can be pinched very easy. That float could have a crack in the seem that causes it to way downs Triple check the level of the float at that 45 degree angle. If the float is pass that at all it will over flow, like you described.
@@freebirdsgarage what a dumb *ss I am, I loosened the drain plug on the float bowl and forgot to tighten it down. Is it possible that would create enough of a vacuum leak to keep pulling gas? The carb would only pour gas out of the overflow when trying to start it, not while just sitting with the petcock open....
@@johnmccool6875 Depending on which petcock you have. If you have a manual one it will continue to pour out, if you have the gas left on. If it's a vacuum style it will generally only come out when it tries to turn over.
@@freebirdsgarage I had bought a mikuni hsr42 and had so much problems with it I know better to just stick with the original cv carb is not really a bad carburetor!!
The carb I'm working on today is for my super gliud will know 2mro if I passed this class hoping I do down to1 that I can ride bout to sell them all and buy a Yamaha lol
If you can do it once a year or each riding season if you have a winter. Other wise I go on performance lag in starting, problems idling, and sputtering at higher RPM's.

Ohh yeah Carb kits are good for that, happens to us all Paul only way to learn is do it!
The CV is a damn good carburetor keep it original
yes sir!
I think that you placed the *main needle seat* from inside the venturi, does it not need to be inside the *main jet channel* from the float bowl side?
You are correct, the needle seat is meant to be pushed through hole the main jet hole from underneath. Fixed it after the time of filming. Good eye sir!
Great video man dont have a cv carb but still enjoyed!
Thanks Nick! I appreciate the support!!
Is there a trick to setting the cap back down with the spring over the diaphragm? Mine wants to go crazy and slinky off to the side. Thanks
Hold both hands on the edges and look at the spacing as you are pushing down. It’ll help guide the whole process
Great video!
Thanks!
are you putting the carburetor in the can, as well, to soak? or just giving it only a brush cleaning?
I put the whole thing in and let it sit for 24 to 48 hours
Needle jet goes in from the top? Like it just sets there around the needle? I thought it set in the bottom and got pushed in place by the needle jet holder
Good eye, your right it does go through the bottom. I just forgot to edit and redo that part
For the air fuel screw. Was there a rubber washer then a small metal washer then a spring?
spring, washer, o ring in that order if that helps
No lock tite on the screws? Thanks for the video.
Never needed them for the assembly of it, for me at least

Sorry to hear about the wife and keep at it you'll get it!
Is the accelerator pump jet replaceable, or at least cleanable?
Yes it is
Did i miss the part about the fuel/air adjustment screw? i believe its 2.5 turns out to start with ??? let me know.
That would be correct
On the acc pump, the little oring, there’s a flat side and a round side. Which way is correct?
The one that comes with the kit is just a round rubber one. If you are referring to the one next to the diaphragm.
Good video! thought u had an aftermarket carb hahaha
Thanks man!! I’m trying to figure out the right formula with the CV’s. They can be monsters when done right.
@@freebirdsgarage I believe it! I still need to adjust my carb more turns out there was more to the video on tuning I missed 😂
@@dynademos There like directions, skip around end up still have to read the whole thing! 😂

Thanks man I appreciate the support!! The weekly grind is real! 👊🏼👊🏼

Can you reuse Chem dip for more than one use?
Yes, i'm still using the same basket today after many carb cleans later

Yea the edit is jacked or let us know we need to pause and take a note immediately
I agree with you, I've been needing to do a redo on a slower process. I appreciate you watching and giving feedback

Can I soak the jets in the dip too?
Yes I highly suggested it and deep scrape after
@@freebirdsgarage Thank you my 86 FXR Liberty has been having issue after issue. Hopefully this is the last one.
Probably be a great video if you'd SLOW DOWN !
I need to do a 2.0 of this. A slower version would be more beneficial
omg, the cuts are annoying
I appreciate the feed back!
What is a CV?
Constant velocity
You don't show intricate piece placement that matter.
Be more specificate in details. Thx
There will be a new version of this coming spring! I've been told by many that needs to slow down. I appreciate the support!
