Hello Captain Queue, u don't know when you apply your Pre-emergent, but timing is key to keeping certain weeds out of your lawn. Also, thickening up your lawn is a natural way to keep troublesome weeds out of your lawn. You have the right idea and plan of action. Keep at it. It will get better 💪🏾

Happy New Year Brother Polo, I hit my yard in some areas with "holy water" (core aerated, and over seeded) and only got 1/3 of the area germinated. I'm in Baltimore, MD and the spots that grew look nice but the other areas just dirt. Not sure if I over sprayed. I'm thinking of maybe over seeding again in those areas and praying for the best. Should I put pre-emergent (Lockup or Dimension) down on the other areas and hope that it just fill in. I have a few spots of clover and some other weeds. We've had a lot of rain and wasn't sure if I should re-seed those bare areas and just use Tenacity or just go with my application of Lesco Dimension 0.15% Plus Fertilizer 12-0-0. I am kind of late, last season I applied this on March 2, 2023. Had it not been for the heavy rain every weekend, I would have applied Prodiamine 65 in late February. Just wanted to pick your brain, Cam suggested that Tenacity will only provide about 2 weeks of coverage but I didn't want to hinder the non germinated seed from growing this spring. Should I go with my St. Patricks Day application of Dimension and just move on and wait until the fall for over-seeding those bare spots? Peace to you and yours, Cam
The main thing is to fill in those bare spots, so seed those bare spots now, so that will fill in. Hit it with tenacity since you have weeds. Tenacity will make that new seed grow in slower BUT it will also take care of any weeds that will grow in those areas where you added new seed. Skip the pre-emergent, save that until late August. Focus on growing that grass and your fertility program to thicken up the lawn. That's what I would do because I wouldn't want to go the whole season with bare spots in my lawn. You can always spray weeds, but it's difficult to grow grass when temperatures get hot. Take advantage of the cooler temperatures now. Hope this helps 🙏🏾
First time visiting your channel. Loved it! We live in the DMV area. This year our yard is covered in what looks like weedville . What can I do to have a fairly decent yard for the summer and reset in the fall? I appreciate any advice you may provide.
Hello Tee Tee, Thanks for viewing the channel. I'm glad that you enjoyed it and hope that the information that you find will help you to have the best lawn possible. First order of business, GET RID OF THOSE WEEDS. Get you some weed control and spray your weeds before they start spreading seeds. You may have to make more than 1 application to get rid of all of them, but getting rid of them is the first thing to do. Second, do you have ANY grass, or is your lawn just all weeds? If you have grass, give it some fertilizer to get it growing. Do these 2 things first. If you have any questions in between this process, let me know, and we'll go from there 👍🏾
Should we kill off weeds before applying our pre emergent? Also when scalping do we bag up the weed clippings or are we ok to recycle the clippings back into our lawn? (I’ve got Bermuda grass if that helps.
As far as weeds, if you see them, go ahead and spray them. It's warm enough right now. Pre-emergent, if your soil temperatures are around 50-55° apply your Pre-emergent. You have Bermuda grass, so I assume you're down south. It's OK to apply your Pre-emergent. When you scalp your Bermuda, bag your clippings. DO NOT return those dead clippings back to the turf.
Hello Hugh, it all depends on what weed that you're going after. Watch this video that I made last year. I go over several weeds, and I also let you know what weed control that you need to use. This should hopefully help you out 👍🏾 ruclips.net/video/zs5FTc_lAkU/видео.htmlsi=1cdhNOZfLdjuh1YU
As they all have different active ingredients in them, it all depends on what weeds you're trying to get rid of. A general use one would be Speedzone. A more aggressive one to go after hard to kill weeds like wild violets will be Turflon Ester. Hope this helps 🙏🏾
Since your lawn is the only thing that you're spraying, I would wait just a little but more before you apply your Pre-emergent. Now, if you were an applicator and you had over 200 lawns to spray and it would take you more than 2 weeks to spray them all, I would say, better earlier than later.
We are a little pass mid March here in Georgia and my fescue lawn has poa annua . I did not use a pre-emergent . Can you tell me what weed control can be used to control it either on line or the big box store.
I live in Southern Illinois and have never used a lawn mower because I always lived in apartments. I now rent a house and have a battery-operated electric mower, weed eater, and blower that was gifted to me. It’s April 1, 2024 and my lawn is covered in dandelions, but my landlord just told me today that it is pointless to spray them. He said because there are lawns covered in them for the next ten miles and the wind will blow seeds, they will just grow right back in my lawn. I really want my first mow to go smoothly, and I really want to care for my lawn properly. What are your thoughts?
The health of your grass is most important. There will ALWAYS be weeds flying around in the air and weeds in your neighbors lawns. Sometimes you can't prevent all of them, and sometimes you can. First : Make sure before you cut, "IF YOU CAN," sharpen your mower blades or get someone to sharpen them. Second: Mow your lawn, and if you can, bag all of your clippings. Especially if you have weeds in your lawn right now. That bag will catch the majority of the seeds from those weeds. Third: SPRAY ANY WEEDS THAT YOU HAVE IN YOUR LAWN A COUPLE OF DAYS AFTER YOUR FIRST MOW. Fourth: Fertilize your lawn. You can do this when you spray your weeds. Speedzone is labeled for henbit. I wouldn't do a second application this early if you just sprayed it a little over a week ago. Give it a little time. Now, if you want to change over to Triad Select, you can do so, but Speedzone should take care of henbit for sure. Whatever you use on your next application, when you spray, make sure the henbit weed is covered and make sure that you're using a fan tip to spray your herbicide.

Hello, most herbicides are pet safe if used as directed on the label. Here's what you need to do, though: keep your pets off of your lawn while you're spraying the area where your weeds are. LET THE WEED CONTROL DRY COMPLETELY. Once it's dry, they can return to the lawn. What I tell my customers is if you spray at 8 am, keep the pets off of the lawn until maybe 3 pm. Some lawns have a thick stand of turf, and it will take a little longer for the thick turf to fully dry vs. a thin lawn. This is just me being EXTRA SAFE if you know what I mean. So I would let them out to do their business BEFORE I would spray. I hope this helps 🙏🏾
Most weed control products will tell you on either the front or back of the label what grass NOT to use that particular weed control on. All you need to know is what grass type that you have. Hope this helps 🙏🏾
If you're spraying, you can combine them both and put them down at the same time. If your high temps are still in the 30-40s, your soil temperatures will still be below 50. Wait until it warms up a little bit, dj. Remember, soil temperatures need to be approaching 50° before you apply your Pre-emergent. If you have weeds, apply that when your high temperatures are consistently over 45°.
