That was 1968. Now watch his 1957 performance of Jailhouse Rock, which is a singing and dancing number from his movie Jailhouse Rock. It was his 3 rd movie and it in black and white. Then for historic purposes, check out his 1st performance on Ed Sullivan Sept 1956 of Ready Teddy. It demonstrates how even when he was warned not to wiggle his pelvis, he still excited the audience with his charisma and enthusiasm. He was the greatest.

    You are 100% correct.
The impersonators don't come anywhere near elvis's level of soul, depth and diversity. They are mere caricatures. Elvis's chameleon voice changed multiple times in his very short life and career. His critically acclaimed recordings are in multiple genres of music.
ONE listen to elvis's 1960 critically acclaimed recording of "it's now or never" and you immediately understand. That voice.

He was the King of Rock, I was only around 10 when he became popular. I love him, he was my love from the start. He has done so many movies and I have watched them all. He does have a lot to offer. He served in the army because it was his duty, he asked to be treated the same as the other soldiers, although I'm sure the were some differences he was privileged. He was kind and humble. He had a love for God and he loved his Mama and didn't care what anyone said. He was a twin, his brother died at birth can you imagine 2 Elvis's? Just trying to share some about him. All the stories about he stole this and that, he didn't he was influenced by many especially the Black people because he loved their music. From an early age he himself became Elvis!!! Thanks for digging in and seeing what he was about.

This performance was long after the song came out. It was one of Elvis's early hits in 1957 & the title song to one of his early movies. As much as I love the '68 Comeback Special, you need to see & hear how the song sounded as the huge hit it was in the 50's & Elvis was 22 years old. You'll hear & see a difference in his voice & early moves. Please react to the original video! See what Elvis was like when he first took the world by storm.💙☮

For as silly as it is, Polk Salad Annie in Las Vegas 1970 is absolutely mesmerizing. I would recommend, in order to get the full Elvis, that Polo watch the 1977 performance of "Unchained Melody" (preferably the one that doesn't cut to the audience); for all that was going on within him, that performance puts a final exclamation point on the king's reign (IMHO).

This comeback special was Elvis first performance in front of a live audience after his post "movie" career. For about 10 years fans only got to see him in movies. Elvis wanted to a persue a serious acting career but either his manager Col Parker, Hollywood or his fans insisted on him "singing" so he was type cast badly as "boy meets girl, sings & gets girl" movies. After some self reflection, Elvis sought advice from others in the business who confirmed his "film" persona was to detached from his still numerous, still loyal fans. The special was purposely showcased returning him to his roots, performing live in front of a live audience. That's why its setting is so unique; small stage, up close & personal with fans. It was so successful he went to larger stages & audiences in Vegas, New York, Dallas, etc. ELVIS performed large shows for the rest of his career. Every show Elvis did was to a SOLD OUT audience. He also is the only performer to win a Grammy in the music genres of rock & roll, rhythm & blues, gospel, & country. We loved ELVIS and ELVIS loved his fans. We will never, ever, forget him.

This is from the 1968 comeback special that marked Elvis's return to live performing after years making movies. yes, his voice is live and his voice was in a transition at this stage, right between the mellow mushy ballads that he sang so beautifully well and the later 70's voice you hear on the likes on 'the wonder of you'. An amazing voice and an a truly amazing human being.

Jerry Leiber & Mike Stoller wrote the song "Jailhouse Rock" for the movie Elvis starred in by the same name "Jailhouse Rock".
Leiber & Stoller wrote a good amount of songs for Elvis in the 1950's.
They also wrote the song "Hound Dog" in August of 1952 for Big Mama Thornton. (Released in February of 1953 on the Peacock Records label.)
As for what Elvis song/ performance you should react to next, I'm going to suggest something different: m.ruclips.net/video/CuuaXIA4A-A/видео.html
"Just Pretend" live 1970 Las Vegas.
This is, vocally, a different side of Elvis.
Thank you so much reacting to this version! It's my personal favorite!
And thanks to whomever suggested/ requested it!
Love your honest commentary. I personally don't mind if you don't like a certain Elvis song or performance.
I prefer honesty and I won't dislike you for expressing your honest opinion.
Even hardcore Elvis fans have songs or versions of songs they're not too keen on.
Music is music and it speaks to us all differently!
    Have a great day & take ❤

There's a clip of this song from his movie Jailhouse Rock here on youtube that he choreographed himself for the movie back in the 50's.
This performance is also from the 1968 Comeback Special. It was a more informal setting without the big stage production of the rest if it. I remember sitting on my living room floor at age 7 and watching this when it premiered on tv.

The song is from the movie Jailhouse Rock. It's a music video he made in the movie to spread the word that people in jail are just regular people like anyone else. It was a 'fun' song just to make it easy for other folks to swallow that bitter reality. In the movie, he beat up a guy who was abusing a woman at a bar, he got thrown in jail for 6 months, jail turned him into a cruel person (he was sweet when he first got to jail), and then a life-changing event makes him a good person again. He definitely didn't rock out during the part where he was actually in jail.

Interesting how most people seem to want reactors to react to Elvis from the late 60s and onward but they seem to completely ignore his early "real" rock-n-roll days from the 1950s into the early 60s. The stuff that was what became known as "rock-a-billy", the early stuff that was scaring the hell out the parents of young teens. Songs like "Rip it Up", "Tryin; to Get to You", "Hound Dog", "Mean Woman Blues", "Hard Headed Woman", "Long Tall Sally", "Blue Suede Shoes", "Milk Cow Blues", "Baby Let's Play House", "Shake Rattle and Roll", etc. Unfortunately, however, there are very few film clips of him performing live in those early days. But it was nice to see a little from that era in Baz Luhrmann's new biopic, "ELVIS". I can tell you it was a great time to be a teenager! Anyway, I'm enjoying your Elvis reactions! Rock on!

People (45 years after he's gone) still call Elvis King of Rock'n roll, but he did not like that, he considerd that the only King was God, but I consider him to be the King of Music, but what do you think, is he good enough to be called a Music King?
Here are some of his Gospel songs:
Amazing Graze, Take me home precious lord, How great though art, You'll never walk alone, You gave me a mountin, Crying in the chapel, Why me Lord (written by Kris Kristofferson), Unchained melody, I'm not sure if it's a gospel song but Walk a mile in my shoes and many more...
    .
If you prefer ballad songs then look at these:
My Way, Suspicius minds, In the Ghetto (written by Mac Davies), Memories (written by Mac Davies), If I can dream that is a tribute (parts of it is taken directly from the I can dream speach by MLK) to Martin Luther King JR and senator Robert Kennedy, What now my love, Walk a mile in my shoes (listen to the words in the beginning), Welcome to my world, Make The World Go Away, Bridge Over Troubled Water, An American Thrillergy, Hurt, Sweet Caroline, Just Pretend, What now my love, Are you lonesome tonight (laughing versin, or not), Oh Danny Boy (for you Irish people), a song that many might not know that he sung it is this one Yellow rose of Texas, well remember that he sang over 700 songs...
There are some videos of when Elvis joking and messing up, he loved to joke around and pretend that he did not have control, but he had total control, he acctually conducted his musicans and back up choirs all the time !!
He is the only person to have 2 records gone to sell Gold and 2 to to sell Platinum since he died.
Elvis is also in almost every genre of Music Hall of Fame (5 that I'm sure of), no one else is in more then perhaps 2.
Not bad for someone who never took a single singing lesson, yes he sang in church so perhaps he learned a little there, right?
    .
Something else that people tend to overlook:
He always conducts his musicans and backup singers, he never gets credit for being able to do that...
Then imagen you are a singer, you have great musicans, you have great backup singers, no Guest Artists, no Autotune, no Lipsinging and no Fireworks, now all is about your skill, could you handle that pressure?
That is what Elvis did in over 1000 concerts, despite having problems with his health, like his Glaucoma, the headlights must have hurt his eyes like crazy...
He sang over 700 songs, I wonder how he could remember them all, he never vrote a song himself, so he had to remember other peoples songs, well that in it self is amazing in it self...
By the way he had Glucomea and that must have been difficult being in the headlights all the time, that could be why he sometimes closes his eyes, but also sometimes squinting !!
Elvis suits was made of 100% Polyester, or 100 cotton (I'm not sure witch one), it was originally a karate suit, it was very light, but it was hot, so it made him sweat a lot, he got some bad press about that, but if you give it all then you will sweat, it should be positive, right?
About the deep basevoice JD Sumner (a member of The Stamps Quartet) is the Basso Profundo, I think that it's called that, it is the deepest base singer there is...
About him helping others, look at this: ruclips.net/video/CrJ1c9tm-C0/видео.html
Elvis made a show where all the money from the show went into building the Memorial after Pearl Harbour, He talked to the nations about taking the Poliovaccin, Elvis took the first injection himself and he helped with giving some big donation to St Jude hospital, one of the donations was a former presidents boat that they used as a fundraiser, St Judes do their best to fight against childrens cancer, he also gave away juwelery, gave away cars, he also gave away houses to total strangers...
He also have a own organisation that helps people get out of Homelessness...
A thing that perhaps you did not know: Elvis NEVER had a show OUTSIDE OF USA, NOT EVEN 1 !!!
Video of Mohammad Ali speech after Elvis died:

I have to say that I loved being at Graceland and seeing his home, first we were at the house in Tupelo where he lived in his early years, he was born there!!!
You don't have a guide taking you on a tour, you can go all over yourself, but stay outside of the ropes and do not attempt to go upstairs, the outside is huge, so is the house, but you don't realise that from the front of the house...
I don't regret for a second that I was there, or that I stood at his grave site and said out loud that this is for the humanitarian Elvis/person/man and then I gave him a military salute, the others there just looked at me and asked if I didn't like his music.
So I told them that he was clearly one of the best singers and artists ever, but I loved his big heart more, he helped so many people without getting credit for it, he didn't want the credit of helping others, he did it out of love and respect and to me that is what true charity is all about…
This PLACE (GRACELAND) should be a protected part of music history and also American history forever, I think that people will keep coming for years and years and years to come !!
Elvis did lots of things for America to, he helped to avoid getting Polio (he took the vaccin in a tv show that made the intrest for the vaccin go from 5 % to 80 % in a few days), he helped in the fight to defeat Cancer, he helped by donating a huge amount of money and later also donated a former presidents boat to St Judes, so they could use it for a fondraiser, he also helped with a huge donation to build the Memorial over Pearl Harbour and many other things !!!

The sadness is he only became fat and ill for the last 2/3 years of his life and yet that is how people who didn't grow up with him remember him.

Great performance from his 1968 "Comeback Special" but I have to say I was disappointed that you didn't use the clip of the original video from the 1950s. It was of a whole stage production with a jailhouse set and "prisoners" doing the backup singing - and everyone doing FANTASTIC dancing (including Elvis) that he choreographed himself!!!! It's WAY better than this one as he was still young and hungry. He was much more toned down and entering middle age in the performance above, though still good. You might check out that other clip if you get the chance. The earliest stuff will show you the energy and rebelliousness that MADE Elvis's career. So far you're mostly seeing stuff after he was already an idol and not trying with as much energy any more. Just sayin'

Imitators are indeed parodies. But the parodies could not (as far as I know) copy his humour. Humour, like with Sinatra, oozed out of Presley.
