    Elvis was the most gorgeous man that ever walked the planet. He was born in a 1 room shack of a house his dad built with money he borrowed from his boss on January 8, 1935 in Tupelo, Mississippi. That's how dirt poor they were. He was one half of identical twins; the other boy - Jesse Garon - was stillborn. They were so poor, that Jesse Garon was buried in a shoebox in an unmarked grave. At Graceland they have a plaque with his name on it in his memory. He always got along with the black community and learned a lot about music from his friends of color. Also, according to the one drop rule, Elvis would not be considered white, since he has Cherokee ancestors on both the Smith (his mother) and the Presley (his father) sides of the family. His paternal grandfather was not happy that his two sons, Elvis' father Vernon and his brother Vester, married two sisters, Gladys and Clettes who were known to have Cherokee blood in their family tree. But he was in denial about the Cherokee blood in his own family tree. As a child, Elvis already had many friends in the black community at the time his family was one of 4 "white" families that lived in the predominantly black neighborhood The Hill, just across from Shake Rag. His childhood friend Sam Bell said that some of the (black) kids in that neighborhood had lighter skin than Elvis (ruclips.net/video/LrFCyNMvZWk/видео.html). One of Elvis' bodyguards once said that he thought it was a miracle Elvis got into Humes High School in Memphis, because it was "lily white". Elvis wanted to be more open about his Native ancestry, but his manager "colonel" Tom Parker (real name Andreas van Kuijk) was against it because he was afraid it might cost Elvis fans (and himself money). They did have Elvis play characters in his movies though where he had Native American blood (Flaming Star, G.I. Blues, Stay Away Joe). Once Elvis had his own (apprentice) job learning to be an electrician, he saved up his money and bought his clothes in the same style that many of his friends of color wore. He was called a (forgive me, just stating facts here) "n-lover" and got beaten up several times too. Later, when he was an established star, he would not perform at places where the members of color of his back-up band/orchestra weren't allowed.

      @@mikem957 Well I will always love Elvis but I think he was wrong about that. I think the first reason fans loved Elvis was that he sang with such deep feeling, way down deep in his soul. I know if I had paid good money to see him, I would have been sorely disappointed when he ruined beautiful songs by laughing in the middle of them, etc especially if you were looking forward to hearing him sing something beautiful like "Are You Lonesome Tonight" and he trashed it like that. Elvis was a true musical genius. No matter the song, and he gets knocked for doing covers (as if people don't sing covers today) but Elvis could get more out of any song he sang than OG artist. After Paul Simon heard Elvis ' sing Bridge Over Troubled Water, he literally said he wouldn't sing again because Elvis had taken Simon's song to another level not even Simon ever conceived and Elvis was less about lyrics and more about producing and arrangement. He would not stop recording until he got the sound right. That man operated on a level no one else could and his voice is so unique that professional vocalists and musician literally put him in own category of singing. In fact, Elvis was so much about sound that he would purposefully sing off key and to him, music was limitless. Elvis could actually go from big Gospel to a soft ballad, an operatic style, and yodel. Elvis means more to music than people realize because he influenced the biggest names in music and created how every artist now performs.

    • @karencarlos3942
      @karencarlos3942 Год назад +8

      Amen! Even MJ copied some his moves, like going up on his toes. No other singer was moving on stage. They all stood still, even groups. Imo, having back up dancers also came from him. Once he danced then others did, and of course had to keep building on the performance.
      He may not have written, but noone was at that time. Songs were written by the likes of Mel Torme, Burt Bacharach and Carol King. Many do write today, but Jlo, Celine and Beyonce dont write their own stuff. We have Sia, LP and multiple 'ghost writers' for that, and it doesnt mean theyre less talented... some are writers, singers, musicians. Its also said that Elvis cant be auto tuned. He had 'almost' perfect pitch and could sing 3 1/2 octaves in one note. If a note is off key then Autotune picks the next best one. Autotuning Elvis would make it sound off key.
      Elvis was a natural producer. He didnt write but he rearranged it to suit his style and in my opinion, he made it better. He had the perfect tone and buttery smooth transition between hooks. I might be wrong, but i think he was the first to 'sample' or aka mash up songs, too. He was just endlessly talented and sometimes all i can do is ache. ❤️‍🩹🕺👑❤️‍🔥

      @@karencarlos3942 Everyone who makes music or made it after Elvis, has felt the influence of Elvis Presley despite them not knowing, realizing it, or denying it. Yes, I feel he should get credit for back up dancers because of Jailhouse Rock. The titular song number was choreographed by Elvis and the first use of back up dancers (to my knowledge) is the first music video even though that's not what Elvis was doing but that's such a great example and beautiful metaphor for the genius of Elvis.
      Elvis was doing things no one was doing at the time. He was so far ahead of his times, I argue that Elvis is still ahead of the times & just waiting for us to realize it, so things like Jailhouse Rock laying out a formula, aesthetic, and concept of telling the story of the song with artist and back up dancers all dancing to the song on a set including actors & props telling the song's story is a music video. Elvis just used what he had at the time so it was a scene in a movie but to this day.... that's studied as the first and one of the best.
      Elvis' skill was on a level that no one else could comprehend.

    ELVIS sang to everyone in the room. My mom and entire family absolutely loved Elvis. My mom was only 2 years older than him and she considered him family. We followed his life and loved every new record when it came out. You said something that is so true. As a teen in the 60's music was everything. We had live teen bands that played in different town halls. Every Friday and Saturday night we would get dressed up to go dancing. My daughter loves salsa and used to dance to it , but the passion we had back then isn't present in the same way. I enjoyed your reaction. Thanks from a soon to be single soon to be 70 year old woman who loves to dance and listen to music..

    68 Comeback Special in black leather sitting down Heartbreak Hotel/Trying to Get to You & in white suit If I can Dream
    1972 Bridge over Trouble Water & How Great Thou Art
    I Washed My Hands in Muddy
    Water.
    Elvis's first love was gospel and rhythm & blues. He grew up very poor & when he got his break he bought his parents Graceland. He was very humble and a generous heart that never forget where he came from. Suggest short documentary Elvis...King of Kindness or A Generous Heart only 14 min...A lot of his generosity was never recognized. Thank u...TCB ⚡👑🌹

      @@lindaware8188 Much as I sympathise with your comment, and as an AVID fan for over 55 years, have everything of note, I will not see the film as I know too much. I am however delighted that Baz has introduced a whole new generation to Elvis which no previous 'biopic' has achieved. I am not a film director or such but he knows the market, did his homework, used his experience, resulting in current takings of $270 million and that is the name of the game.

    • @lindaware8188

      @@gorse9030 I understand. It concerns me, that what is viewed , is seen as truth rather than a fictional presentation, made for $$$$$. Only my opinion, but I have heard too many, taking this film, as a documentary. If this film, actually encouraged finding out, who Elvis truly was and the huge contribution he has made, then I am for it, however, I have not seen that happening.
      Something I really enjoy and encourage, would be the young people , who are reviewing his music, for the first time . I love the reactions, especially, when they had no idea, how fantastic he was.

    • @gorse9030
      @gorse9030 2 года назад +3

      @@lindaware8188 Again I sympathise and concur with a lot of your points. If I had made the movie, I guess I would (having not seen it but on comments I have seen), done it differently and more to the true facts, but I am certain my version would not have got the millions through the cinema doors like Baz has achieved. The vast majority of cinemagoers will go back to their own favourite artists and genre, but I definitely think there will be a small percentage that will go down the rabbit hole of Elvis music, and a larger percentage will now play his music NOW AND THEN, which they had not done previously, and have a greater respect for his enormous talent. That's all fine by me and the best a fan can hope for on an artist who passed away 45 years ago.

      and here is another side.
      Elvis started using drugs in the army back in 1958.
      Check this out
      In 1970 Elvis writes to President Nixon (the I am not a crook guy) and offers his services to help combat illicit drug use in the USA.
      Elvis mentioned that he knew a lot about drugs and was accepted by the hippies.
      He said he could go right into a group of young people or hippies and be accepted which he felt could be helpful to him in his drug drive.
      Nixon and Elvis exchanged pleasantries and agreed that “those who use drugs are in the vanguard of American protest.”
      In 1977 Elvis dies of drug overdose and drug abuse.
      Putting Elvis in charge of speaking on narcotic abuse is like leaving Dracula in charge of the blood bank.
      Hypocrisy: What is an example of hypocrisy?
      People who tell you not to eat candy while they chomp away on candy all day.
