For those wondering, the 3D clips are from the game called Lord of the Rings Online. I recommend it to all LotR fans, mainly because it stays true to the lore and enables you to travel and experience the lands of Middle earth.
Albin Johansson You are not playing an Istari wizard but a loremaster, seeker of knowledge. It is safe to assume that Middle earth had, in fact, been home to such individuals. I stand behind what I said, LotRO is, to those who want an MMO that follows Tolkien's work, damn near perfection, as it follows what was written and expands on it remarkably. Of all the aspects of this game, staying true to the lore is the best for me by far.
Played the game a few years ago. Man I really miss playing LOTRO unfortunately life became so busy. The Burglar and Lore master was my favorite. Trollshaws, Evendim and Rivendell was my favorite areas of the game.
They should make a whole brand new one. I have never played the old one.. it looks cool but no pc.. I play elder Scrolls online and always think how I want to play a lord of the rings MMO up to date 😕
I could never live in any of these Dwarven realms under the mountains, but it would be tremendous to get to visit them. Especially Moria. The immensity of it, the very weight of the mountains, lie on the chapters taking place in it. The journey through it is dream like, moving, scary... I can't put my finger on what exactly it stirs in the subconsciousness.
It's not even completely unrealistic. The early Celts is the Alps had salt mines of gigantic proportions. Great halls like those in Hallstadt. Probably miners and their families would spend most of their time underground working, cooking, eating playing etc.
I am the Watcher in the Water I am the tentacle in the darkness I am the beast that shields the realm of Orcs I pledge my honour and life to this task for I am an aquatic creature and can't leave the lake
Hey guys hope you enjoy this video! I'd like some feedback on two things, firstly whether you enjoyed the video clips in this video or if there are too many of them, and secondly whether I'm speaking too fast in it. In some of my older videos, I tend to speak very slow to increase the clarity of the video, yet I feel it's detrimental to the final experience. And so I'm speaking at a more natural pace for me, and I'm happier with the way the videos are turning out, and so I'd like to hear your feedback on this!
Loved this video Geek! The Mines of Moria is honestly one of my most favorite Dwarven Kingdoms in the Legendarium and I have always admired its design and its description and its deep back story I really wish I could go their and mine some Mithril and drink with some Dwarves (lol) anyway loved this video and can't wait for the next one!!! :)
I know Moria is just absolutely amazing and if you’ve ever had the chance to play LOTRO I believe they do it justice as the halls are beautifully designed and it just makes you feel like you are really there.
Same here! To me Moria was the pinnacle of Dwarven craftsmenship, history, skill and wealth. Compared to this, Erebor, with all its gold and precious stones, was a "light version".
Hey! 👋 Again a very well put together info package. Looking forward to new uploads, as they are starting to become my weekly highlights in RUclips. Greetings from Finland!
Bravo, very well put together. Moria even more the Khazad-dûm is my favorite place in Middle-Earth. The secrets lost in the deep dark places of Moria is what does it for me. I use to read that section over and over dreaming of such things. Seeing it in LOTRO was a highlight of the game for me. Anyway, thanks for all the hard work and cheers.
Amazing video, I learn so much from ALL of your lore vids! Keep up the great work! Btw, could you do a lore video regarding Thranduil, his wife, Legolas, and their story? (How Thranduil's wife died, etc.)
Hey Miriel! First of all thanks I appreciate it! Secondly actually our current poll on Facebook includes Thranduil's story, however we really aren't told anything about his wife unfortunately as in the books it's never implied that she passed away or how :( The Hobbit films messed up his character and history quite a bit
Extremely well done. The drawings were crude but informative and gave me a better understanding of the topography of the mines and the route of the fellowship.
Played Lord of the Rings Online and did every single quest in Moria, went to every dark corner... never realized the lake outside had the crown reflection of the stars!!!
Hi there. This is the first video of yours that I've watched and I'm loving it. It's so informative for people who know little or a lot of the lore of Middle Earth. The video clips you use enhance it as far as I'm concerned and you've clearly thought about when and where to use the clips and it's been edited really well with your narrative. As for your speech, the speed you are speaking is perfect - easy to follow, easy to understand and your accent is a joy to listen to. I did spot an error though: Celebdil should be pronounced with a hard 'C' like Celeborn or Celebrimbor, so it should sound like 'Kelebdil'. It states in Appendix E of The Return of the King that C 'always has the value of "k" even before "e" and "i", therefore 'celeb (silver) should be pronounced "keleb"'. I'm looking forward to watching more of your videos.
Yeah definitely my preferred race if I had to choose, or maybe a tall hobbit. Was it the tooks side of bilbos family that where slightly taller, or am I mistaken?
Thank you for these Lore videos. I'm totally addicted to Lord of the Rings right now after reading the books for the first time and these videos are amazing!
I'm really glad the dwarves were finally able to reclaim Moria, love the bittersweet way Tolkien describes their rein lasting until the end of Durin's day. Breaks my heart and yet I find it uplifting too
Love the series and all the hard work and details, great work ! Minor note, the “well incident” happened in the room where Durin’s tomb lay. This is why the Fellowship was trapped there. It did not happen at the three doors. The first discovery of Gollum following the fellowship happened at the three doors and that is where Gandalf foresaw the ultimate role Gollum would play in the destruction of the ring and made sure that Frodo showed mercy to him.
Great Review and summary! I always learn something new from your videos! Thanks for always giving your audience Tolkien's written account instead of the film versions. It allows the viewer to compare the two and decide which they prefer! It also beautifully recreates the rich fictional tapestry that Tolkien envisioned!
Wow, really enjoyed that! You are extremely knowledgeable on the subject, made for a great vid. No 'filler' like other lore vids, really good solid content.
Thanks Szymon! I like to use as many different medias as possible, makes a video more wholesome! Also it's very fun for me to make it and integrate them all together! :)
Just discovered your videos and they're fantastic! I love The Lord of the Rings / Hobbit / Silmarillion - such a deep and fascinating history filled with amazing characters and deeds. Thank you for producing this and best wishes from the UK.
What I knew least about was Moria you answered literally every single one of my questions regarding Moria. It would have been cool if Gimli led an army and took back the mountain kingdom and became Lord of Moria.
An excellent video, very well done! Thank you very much for making it, I learned a lot and really enjoyed it. I'll be watching more of your videos in the future.
This was a fun and insightful video! I was always curious about Moria's history but I wasn't sure where to look in the books (I haven't managed to read them).
In the books it is the main reason for travelling to Rivendel, because Erebor hadn't recieved word from Balin and the others in quite some time and they were worried.
Well, firstly, most everyone besides Gimli thought that something had happened to Balin and his Dwarves. They didn't know it for a fact, and couldn't have, unless they had traveled to Moria themselves. But why would they do that when they have more pressing concerns of their own? There's no internet(obviously) in Middle Earth, and there's no postal service. The only quick and viable means for communication would be emissaries on horseback, or messenger birds(they could use those magical seeing stones, but that's incredibly risky, as Gandalf himself warned against their use). However, Middle Earth is much bigger than the movies would make it seem. Frodo's journey from the Shire to Mordor and back took at least a year or so. Balin and company were trapped, anyway. It's not like they could have sent word. Even if they did send word, it would have taken a **long** time for everyone who needed to know to learn about it. Besides, basically everyone else- including the rest of the Dwarves- had their own shit to take care of. Gondor was under siege from Mordor for years, Rohan had a sick king and was basically in shambles, and all the Elven realms were busy protecting their borders or just flat out leaving Middle Earth. Perhaps Gimli should have figured. And I would say he probably knew in the back of his mind that something bad had happened, but, he just didn't want to face it.
love it, so much was explained that i was curious about thank you. I love this scene in the film when they first enter the mine and the visuals it really shows you have great and big this place was it was just awesome i hope some can agree.
That's great Aaron, if you happen to come here I'd recommend you come towards the end of summer, you get to enjoy the sun, beaches and history without it being too hot! If you do happen to plan a holiday, feel free to message me I'll recommend some places you've got to check out!
Very true! I love the LOTRO footage by the way :D! It brings back memories of all the times I fell down holes during my journey through there...good times...
I loved the video and as always great work! But one little false information is there, Frodo helps Gandalf solve the riddle in the films but in the books Gandalf finds the answer by himself :)
The Ring slowed down Bilbo's aging. After it was destroyed he aged 'quickly'. Gollum new that he would age again when the Ring was destroyed, as it was, and he was afraid, "Lost, lost! We're lost. And when the Precious goes we'll die, yes, die into the dust." Gollum knew that he was going to hell I think, if such a place existed in Middle-Earth...sad. Anyway I digress. If Gollum has not attacked Sam from behind and the Ring was destroyed without him falling into Mount Doom how much longer would he have lived? Would it be possible for his death to be peaceful. Maybe Sam would take pitty and forgive him in his last moments.
I always imagined that he would die a few minutes later, though those few minutes would be blissful. He would be finally freed from the chains the ring had placed upon him, I'd imagine it would be exhilarating!
I don't have as positive an outlook, I'm afraid. I think Gollum was a corrupted creature and destruction of the ring wouldn't undo the nature of what he had become. I believe he would have mourned the ring to the depths of his possible grief. I worry that his remaining life would have been filled with wailing and the gnashing of teeth.
Your narrative pacing and the number of clips enhance the videos in my opinion. How about a video with this scenario: What if Glaurung had not been killed by Turin? Suppose the boulder that crushed Hunthor had killed Turin instead?
I really enjoyed this content. In regards to you speaking, I think it was quite reasonable. I am not the biggest Lord of the Rings fan but it is cool how much depth is in it.
Great video, nice narration, thanks Karl.OK, here come the quibbles. The video shows Ursa Major variously called the Great Bear, Haywain, Plough or Big Dipper. But there is ANOTHER constellation of seven stars .... Corona Borealis, the Northern Crown. In Welsh it is Caer Arianrhod, Ariadne's castle.
I always wondered why the Necromancer never reached out to the Balrog in Moria. I mean the orcs he sent there would surely find it, and even if they didn't know what it was, they would tell of it to Sauron, who might just know who or what it was. Just curious why, as he surely knew the balrogs, being Melkor'r right hand man
I don't know much of Tolkien work myself but I believe Balrog is almost as powerful as Sauron. I can't imagine it will work under Sauron. It may even overthrow him. He just can't risk it.
I'm new to these videos, but am enjoying the lore and geography of middle earth. What platform are you getting the 3D walkthroughs of these locations from? During your videos, you show a 1st person point of view of some of these places.
Hey GeekZone! I just recently discovered your channel and am loving it. Have you ever considered doing a video on those "nameless creatures" that Gandalf mentions? As far as I know Tolkien never provided any real information on them (except that Gandalf refused to even talk about them) but I've only read LotR, The Hobbit, and The Silmarillion so I was wondering if there was more written about them in some of his other books/letters.
Excellent video and analysis. I'm so fascinated with the myths and the history of LOTR. Incredible job u did there. Although there is one mistake u made, the well you mentioned that had alert the orcs of the presence of the fellowship was in Balin's tomb in the movies instead of being in the old guardsroom. Is the movie wrong or did I guees it wrong?
Great video. I suggest doing a video on the phial of Galadriel. It would make a great topic, linking the Lord of the Rings back to the history of Tolkien's world.
Really cool video, as good as always keep this up. also whats the game youre playing when youre looking at the locations for example, while in the water at the mines. it looks cool
Man it would be awesome to have a game that has Moria mapped out accurately in it's entirety, taking hours or even days to pass from one side to the other and you fight orcs on the way and try to avoid the Balrog. It could be extremely scary.
Gimli didn't know what befell Balin's expedition aside from the early settlement. However, the movie made it look like he expected a "Royal welcome", whereas in the books 'There is even a chance that Dwarves are there, and that in some deep hall of his fathers, Balin son of Fundin may be found. However it may prove, one must tread the path that need chooses!' 'I will tread the path with you, Gandalf!' said Gimli. 'I will go and look on the halls of Durin, whatever may wait there - if you can find the doors that are shut.' That makes it look like he hoped for the best, but expected the worst.
For those wondering, the 3D clips are from the game called Lord of the Rings Online. I recommend it to all LotR fans, mainly because it stays true to the lore and enables you to travel and experience the lands of Middle earth.

How is it that gimlie had no idea of the events in Moira
In the books it is the main reason for travelling to Rivendel, because Erebor hadn't recieved word from Balin and the others in quite some time and they were worried.
The Dwarves had been trapped in Moria, its not like they could send a message with their phones that they are going to die.
Well its been over 30 years you should know something is wrong......
Drone Wars How exactly? Gimli, as stubborn he is, most likely thought that the dwarves won and that's why he wanted to go through Moria.
Well, firstly, most everyone besides Gimli thought that something had happened to Balin and his Dwarves. They didn't know it for a fact, and couldn't have, unless they had traveled to Moria themselves. But why would they do that when they have more pressing concerns of their own? That was a great video. I loved your map! And now I know more than I did. Thank you very much!
The theme song at the end is from the game divinity 2 . What an awesome game that was
Great video man:) I always look foward to your videoes:)
Cheers mate!
I loved the video and as always great work! But one little false information is there, Frodo helps Gandalf solve the riddle in the films but in the books Gandalf finds the answer by himself :)
I always learn something new!! Thank you
The Ring slowed down Bilbo's aging.
I freaking love this channel!
So nice to see a video made by someone that actually knows their shit. Great job man.
I like the video capture from LOTRO. Mines of Moria was a great expansion.
Thanks for making this. You're quite good in my humble opinion.
I really enjoyed this content. In regards to you speaking, I think it was quite reasonable. I am not the biggest Lord of the Rings fan but it is cool how much depth is in it.
Wow!!! Great craftsman indeed.
Wauw really enjoyed this one , watched it 2 times to pick up on all the details.
Cheers man!
Thank you Karl, yes, it was a great video! I enjoyed it. I can't wait maybe for an Erebor video😉👍
Thanks Laurentiu, I'll cover it for sure in the future! :)
GeekZone ok👍🐈😊
I love your choice of background music
Cheers! :)
Spiderhag 25 what is the backround in the beginning from?
Very thorough!
I get it's lord of the rings but I want to play world of warcraft now... loving the music
Great video. I suggest doing a video on the phial of Galadriel. It would make a great topic, linking the Lord of the Rings back to the history of Tolkien's world.
Cheers Francis and thanks for the idea, I'll add it to my list!
love it, that you used dwarf music from battle of middle earth 2.
These are great videos, keep it up!
They could make an entire HBO seiries on the Lord of the rings.
Amazon is making it
@@BrickedUpp i can't wait to see it. Taking place in the second age. I hope it's cool.
O Alonzo A I know. My body is ready. I just hope it’s as good as the movies
The LOTR movies not the hobbit movies lol
HBO is the best joice for book recreations. Look how amazing GoT was (the last seasons were shit tho but that isn't fault of HBO)
What did I learn? Just about everything you said except the parts from the movie.
Good video
Really cool video, as good as always keep this up. also whats the game youre playing when youre looking at the locations for example, while in the water at the mines. it looks cool
Your videos are best. Thanks for great videos.
Man it would be awesome to have a game that has Moria mapped out accurately in it's entirety, taking hours or even days to pass from one side to the other and you fight orcs on the way and try to avoid the Balrog. It could be extremely scary.
You answered my question how Gimli did not know moria had fallen. Really great thanks
Gimli didn't know what befell Balin's expedition aside from the early settlement. However, the movie made it look like he expected a "Royal welcome", whereas in the books
'There is even a chance that Dwarves are there, and that in some deep hall of his fathers, Balin son of Fundin may be found. However it may prove, one must tread the path that need chooses!'
'I will tread the path with you, Gandalf!' said Gimli. 'I will go and look on the halls of Durin, whatever may wait there - if you can find the doors that are shut.'
That makes it look like he hoped for the best, but expected the worst.
really enjoyed this.. learnt some things I didn't know.. thanks
I think its Pippin who figures out the password for the western door...
It was Merry.
