I really appreciate you making this video. I recently installed one on my Bass boat and have been so frustrated trying to make simple changes to my screens and doing basic adjustments to information on my screen. This video really helped me figure out how to get the most out of my Lowrance! Thank you and I can't wait to see Part 2!!!
LOTS of good info! , thank you for taking the time to do this and share it. I just got a FS-9 and I am wanting to learn as much as possible about functions, and this presentation helps a LOT! @ 28:13 is a great setting change as well. It lets you also pick out things like the difference of a brush pile and the actual bottom, as well as finding fish on the bottom, and I don't think that any other companies sonar does this.
This is such a great video and explains so much in an easy to understand manner. I have just bought one of these units and looking forward to trying it out.

A great informative video. Thank you. I've used it to set up my units. One thing I can't find anywhere is: In chart mode as I travel along there is a wide dark blue trail behind the boat indicator. I don't know what it's called or how to get rid of it. Do you have a suggestion?
@@Lee-gq7ss if it's a wide trail it's probably not your normal trail. You might check your menu on your chart screen and see if "Overlay" is set to structure. If so turn that to Off.
Great stuff - very helpful. One thing I notice on your graph that I don't see on my own is when you click on a point in your Chart, it populates the GPS coordinates, distance from vessel, and course heading to reach that point in the bottom left-hand corner of the screen. Is there a setting in Charts to enable/disable this feature, I would very much like to enable it. Thanks!

I have a hooks 7 HDI is there any way to keep the structure scan on because when I turn unit off the structure scan turns off. Your vids are really helpful keep them coming. Thanks
I am not sure if I am understanding your question correctly. When you power off the display, it powers everything off. Unless you mean the structurescan turns off everytime you turn it off and then back on?
@@gerrygrigg3624 The only reason I can think of as to why it might be doing that is if the transducer plug isnt making a good connection. You might try to see if you can push it in further. Also, does it say anything about not detecting the transducer when you first turn it on? And what software version do you have?
@@nightanddaymarine8823 Software version is 20.0 .I have a friend and his does the same thing . When I turn the depth finder on I have to go to settings then systems then to advanced then to features then to structure scan to turn it on. And it doesn't say anything about not detecting transducer. thanks

@@torrys99 with these transducers it's not necessary if your just gonna have it on for an hour or 2. Just try not to leave it on overnight and it should be fine. It's really the higher wattage metal transducers that need to stay submerged to prevent overheating.
I am awaiting an FS9 and would like to be able to follow along at home when it arrives, and make some of these adjustments to settings. Do i need to have transducer plugged in or do i put Sonar Off ? Im a bit confused as to how to correctly set up unit at home while being able to test as well as saving those settings. If i change settings while in demo they wont save from what i understand? Thanks
@@torrys99 first off do not put it in Demo mode. Nothing will save if you do. Only turn on simulator if u must. It's typically a good idea to plug in your transducercwhen setting it up so that it pulls all the specs from it ahead of time. The unit has transducer identification software in it.

Unfortunately I don't think that is one of the options to pick from in the list. That display only allows you to pick from the options listed. It won't allow you to customize the list to add your own shortcuts.
Can you please clarify why older hook reveal has better transducer than new elite fs?? Hook reveal with hdi transducer 50/200khz, will perform better in the deep waters because of its 50 khz, vs elite fs 7, .. does the 3-1 transducer on elite fs read 50khz?? frequencies
Hi. I recently purchased one of theses units eliteFs 9. I Run two units on my boat HDS 7 live, I net worked the elite FS 9 to my HDS 7. I was very disappointed with the elite FS 9 as compared to the HDS live 7. the picture was allot more clear and brighter on the HDS7, I made adjustments to the elite played around with contrast ect to try and get a clear picture as to what the HDS 7 displayed and just could not. I ran the transducer alone on the eliteFS 9 and made no difference. All so with the elite FS mod the picture displayed allot of glare and was hard to see. I soon rather discover that the screens are different with the eliteFs compared to the HDS lives. I returned the elite back to the shop and Purchased the HDS 9 live with given it was the much better unit compared to the elite Fs
I guess you pay for what you get. Did you consider networking a iPad to the FS9 and utilising the quality screen? I’m also curious to know, are there any other features that stand out on the HDS7 worthy of paying double the price? Thanks in advanced.
It depends. The retail mode isn't always on when you first power it up. I've seen in a few circumstances where it was but generally it is something you would have to manually turn on. Of course if it is on, you definitely want to turn it off. Retail mode will prevent you from being able to save your settings.
I installed a lowrance elite fs 7 sonar to my boat and my side scan is only showing 1 meter to the sides. Any advice on repair? Is there something wrong with the settings?

Yes you can. Just tap on the screen where you want to put the waypoint and you should then see a waypoint option on the menu bar on the right side of the screen to set one.

I just bought a boat with this Lowrance unit. I took it to Shawnee Twin lakes to treat out the boat and the Lowrance unit didn’t recognize that Lake was even there. Any suggestions?
I can't get the simulation mode to operate at all. I talked with the manager of the electronics dept. at the local fishing store where I bought it and he told me that he has never been able to get that to work either. He also said that it is a lowrance update issue (or something) Kinda wondering who's talking the truth.
So when you activate the simulation, and you select the specific simulation files, it does show anything on any of the screens? Like the sonar or structure scan? Have you made sure that your Stop Sonar is not turned on?
I purchased one a week ago, can't get it to show contour lines, I also can't use high Chirp on sonar and have down scan or side scan while high Chirp is enabled. Any idea what's going on?
That is odd. I would do a soft or hard reset on it and see if that cures it might just be a glitch. For the contour lines, it could just not have mapping for that specific area. But if it doesn't show then at all... reset. Might even make sure u have the latest software update as well.
Silly Question. With a Lowrance Elite FS 9 how do you go from way point 27 to waypoint number 1. Everyone shows how to set waypoints but not how to get to a waypoint previously marked. Example, I want to mark a boat launch and then at the end of the day be able to find and go to that boat launch again, how do I do that? Love your site and am a subscriber. Thx for the great videos
There is probably an easier way to do this but since I don't have my unit in front of me, one way is to press your Pages button, then the settings icon in the top left corner, then Charts, then Waypoints, routes, and Trails at the bottom. You will then see your waypoint list. Select the waypoint you want and then select GoTo. Or when your on your chart screen you can scroll over to the eaypoint you want to go to ir ypu know where it's at, tap on it, and then on the menu on the right select GoTo. It will draw a line from you to that spot.
In general, the TI units are faster in response to inputs. This is seen when quickly switching between sonar, downscan, chart, and split screens ruclips.net/user/postUgkxeAxH15LxhjGlg5-CRYqjTGTEH0tbY4vk recommend The Hook units will show some lag on button pushes and screen switching. The big ticket item though is maps. If you install a mapping card such as Navionics or the free C-Map Genesis which has a lot of map detail, then moving around the map with the cursor or when running down the lake can lag significantly on the Hook units, but is seamless with the TI units.
@@mac2645 it comes seperate. I think their might be a bundle kit that you can buy that comes with the display and active target equipment but thats it. It definitely requires additional equipment to use that feature.
@@TheTroutman85 in the video I show how to add an overlay and under the GPS options at the top, make sure to select Speed Over Ground once your in the Edit Overlay/Add screen. And then Save
@@justinschmidt9180 watch part 2 of this video and around 28:00 there are some steps to make sure the GPS is activated. If that all checks out then you might just have a faulty GPS module.

I gotcha. That makes sense. However, keep in mind, if you buy from the US, it will not have any mapping on it for Japan or anywhere else besides the US. So you will need to purchase a mapping card for your area so keep that additional cost in mind. Also, you should be able to call Navico and see if you can get the language pack sent to you. It's just a file that you can easily install on the display. But I am unsure what their rules are concerning that now.

You will want an ethernet cable which plugs into the yellowish orange port on the back of the display

Did you activate it within the files menu just under the simulator option?
Actually I think it's supposed to activate with the sonar simulator. I'll check on it here in a bit.

you have to have a transducer is able to exempt down scan.
Fs units have cmaps live if you log sonar they automatically make maps
It's actually called Genesis Live. All the newer Lowrance models have it now.
If I run a 3in1 transducer I don’t get the option to use 800hz for down scan ?? Is that true ??

might be a silly question, but did you mount the transducer inside the hull of the boat?

I have Elite 9FS I haven't used it much at all. I will be using it in lake havasu. I installed a cmap for it. Question are these pre-loaded with maps.
Yes they do come preloaded with US based C-maps. But not the HD maps that will give u satellite imagery or 3D shaded Relief mapping

Try going to genesismaps.com and see if they have a version of that lake that is covered. All the map files are free.

It does have that ability but you have to use a Cmap Insight HD card in order to activate that feature.

..another FS instructional video indicated that the processor in the FS isn't snappy enough to run High C, DS and SS simultaneously.

How do you get fish reveal? On the same screen it’s showing me Fish 🐟🐠 ID but it’s not popping up fish reveal.
Well the fish reveal only shows up on your downscan screen. Is it not showing the fish on that screen?

Down scan and sonar doesnt work same time why ??
You will have to turn off the chiro sonar and set it to 200 khz instead. For some reason on these they cannot operate at the same time.

Are you picking up a GPS signal? Like does it show you moving around on the chart? And you do have the speed overlay set up? Not the water speed?

Why doesnt the gps work
GPS should connect automatically as long as your outside or close to outside. Are you getting a ? On top of your cursor arrow?

It's just a file that you can easily install on the display. But I am unsure what their rules are concerning that now.

I found out that the Japanese dealer will not repair it if it breaks down.
I will buy an expensive product made in Japan.

Which tutorials apply to Hook 4xGPS? I have no idea how to use it. Even have trouble turning it on and off.

It could be. Depends on the body of water and what transducer you are using.
Here in SA most guys are using them for salt water deep sea fishing. No issues.
