I had a $13 pad Thai here in Athens that wasn’t better than most $2 pad Thais in Thailand. If you’re still in Bangkok, I highly suggest you go to pad Thai Narok tek. The owner Alex is a pad Thai master and in my opinion makes the best pad Thai I have ever had. $3-4. It would make a great video showcasing his cooking abilities. He has a hole in the wall sit down seating for about 20 people and he cooks out on the sidewalk. All he makes is pad Thai. His restaurant is on Lat ya rd. I usually take a motorcycle grab. He is only open from around 4 pm until he sells out.

Many retirees, globetrotters, digital nomads, and RUclipsrs often highlight the affordability of living in South America or Southeast Asia. While I agree with this sentiment, there's a significant aspect rarely discussed: the actual costs involved in traveling to these destinations. Flight tickets can be quite expensive. Drawing on my 25 years of experience organizing travel in Asia, I can attest to this firsthand. Based on your videos from the past year, you could have visited 17 different countries and revisited some countries up to 7 times within the last year. Could you provide an overview of what portion of your annual budget is allocated to flight tickets? I recall from your previous videos that you aim to manage within a $24,000 annual budget ($2,000 per month). Does this budget include your flight expenses, or are these costs kept separate? I look forward to your insights on this topic in one of your upcoming videos. Happy Travels! 🙏🙏
Thank you for this Yes it absolutely includes flights Round trip from Bangkok to Bali and back was $68 Bangkok to Malaysia and back with a three weeks hotel stay … $180 Southeast Asia is low cost Flight between countries are crazy cheap

I think in Florida and other parts of the Hurricane prone South you do need a new roof every 10-12 years to keep your insurance. Here in AZ I don’t believe it’s required. My house is 27 years old and still had the original roof. I wish I could have Sold before the new roof was necessary but I just wasn’t at the place in life to move. I’m still working, but only for a few more years. These next few years prior to retirement I will keep visiting Thailand etc since the job is very flexible. I’m planning on 6 weeks in SEAsia towards the end of this year
Great video! On average, what would you say that your total monthly costs are when you visit Thailand for 30 days? (minus flights) $1500-2000? (Food, accommodation, phone SIM, insurance, visa, etc.)
Check the seamstress out in front of the suttus court hotel Screens in Bangkok but there are low cost shops in Pattaya as well I think I mentioned the shop name in the video
@@RetireandGo I found polyester material offers clothings that hold their shapes well and dry quickly, which is ideal for travel. When I'm at home I prefer natural fibers (cotton, linen) but when travel I often pack polyester shirts & pants. I just wash them in the bathroom sink and they easily dry overnight. I also pack a couple of odor-resistant merino wool shirts for the days that I am too lazy to wash; you can wear merino wools for days without having to wash them.
I can live on Falafel wraps! I’m happy to see you are eating some greens and less fried foods. That stuff is killing is. If you haven’t noticed I’m into my veggies ….. how expensive is the produce there. I eat kale every single day! Lol How is the selection for vegan fare?

Genuine question, what, as a single man would make your rent $2,600 a month? I have payments on a $115,000 car as well as rent and insurance and gas and i live alone. For all of those in at 2,500ish a month. I live in a major metro area, Portland Oregon in the middle of downtown as well. 995 a month for a 1 bedroom, 1100 car payment, 400 a month insurance and I don’t drive much so maybe 80-100 gas for the car. Just wondering why rent is so much

I’m planning on 6 weeks in SEAsia towards the end of this year
Oh my every 12 years
Goodness… that’s like $20,000
I can’t afford these things any more
Florida is nice though :-)
Unbelievably fantastic everything the food, the seamstress, the walking the hotel man how do I do this? Where do I start? I’m in for reals I’m in.❤
Thank you for this .
Yes you can for sure
Give yourself a trip you deserve
Go spend a few weeks in Thailand ok?
🎉
A big aloha to you !
Great video! On average, what would you say that your total monthly costs are when you visit Thailand for 30 days? (minus flights) $1500-2000? (Food, accommodation, phone SIM, insurance, visa, etc.)
I have kept my monthly costs under $2000
Annual costs under $24,000
:-)
How can i find a seamstress? And where's the store you get your screen redone? Do they do Apple phones as well or just Android?
Check the seamstress out in front of the suttus court hotel
Screens in Bangkok but there are low cost shops in Pattaya as well
I think I mentioned the shop name in the video
it’s hard to survive with $5k/month for a family in Australia 😢😢😢
I understand
My home state as well !
Could you share info about lightweight, quick dry clothings that you found useful. TIA
Yes for sure
O’Neil shorts TRVLR expedition model
The best for travel and theft protection
Also dries very fast
What do you like to use ?
@@RetireandGo I found polyester material offers clothings that hold their shapes well and dry quickly, which is ideal for travel. When I'm at home I prefer natural fibers (cotton, linen) but when travel I often pack polyester shirts & pants. I just wash them in the bathroom sink and they easily dry overnight. I also pack a couple of odor-resistant merino wool shirts for the days that I am too lazy to wash; you can wear merino wools for days without having to wash them.
@@BangNguyen-ux4ie thank you for this :-)
I’m always gathering information on clothes and gear
It’s important
@@RetireandGo I usually by my clothes from Columbia outlet store near my home, they fit me well.
@@BangNguyen-ux4ie oh yes that’s a good place for deals on quality clothes
I can live on Falafel wraps! I’m happy to see you are eating some greens and less fried foods. That stuff is killing is. If you haven’t noticed I’m into my veggies ….. how expensive is the produce there. I eat kale every single day! Lol How is the selection for vegan fare?
True
I need less fried foods !
Thank you
Oh my
Thailand is a vegetarian heaven
Local and Indian dishes cheap
Fresh veggies fruits cheap

Have a wonderful weekend!

I prefer to use my Chevrolegs for transportation too!

Lived or live in Hawaii? Was there myself for many years.
Oh yes, I moved there in 89
In the navy back then
Have a good day !
Thanks for the summary! what is the 30 day grand total roughly?
Also, can you share roughly what your total has been since you left Hawaii last time... 2 or 3 months ago I guess it was... You don't have to include the flight out of Hawaii.
Thanks a bunch
Yes for sure
I keep every month under $2000 including airfare
Annual under $24,000
Latin America was about the same but hotels we’re priced higher
@@RetireandGo really? Yeah I think that's a good amount to budget $2,000 US dollars a month. Thanks for sharing!
The turkish sauces are not good with the shawerma or falafel ....they r adding like a ketchup to both ,thats not good
I’m more of a yogurt sauce guy in those
Thoughts?
You did not include the cost of "extra services" 🙂
Haha yeah that’s available but expensive very expensive
I must be getting old and senile. Did I miss when you said what your total 30 day budget was?
I probably am haha !
Well, I keep every month under $2000
My annual is under $24,000
@@RetireandGo That seems to be a good middle-ground for most vloggers in SEA. Some of the guys on 1k in the phils live in a way I personally think of as camping. Some of the 3k+ folks are staying in 4 star hotels and only eat western food.
2k seems like a good life.
I'm just now getting ready to head out. I'm a little concerned about buying shoes and t-shirts, I have big feet and im 6'2 and 250 pounds. do you get deliveries from Amazon?
I totally understand
I recommend you go to the Night Bazzar in Pattaya
They have many sizes
Also there is a Taylor that will custom make pants and shirts for big guys like you !
👍🏼
Have a great week !
I heard Philippines has changed their immigration law and now offer permanent residency for US citizens
Indonesia has a new one year visa , I think Laos too !
So many new visas !
I say choose one and go
Thoughts ?
Philippines is a great idea !
@@RetireandGo Philippines is great since majority of the people speak English and many nice beaches. However, when come to foods compared to other Southeast Asian countries are not quite as good but they many western restaurants there since last time I was there 3 yrs ago.

Looks like you are losing weight. How, with all those great and abundant foods? What was the approximate monthly grand total?
I am trying to
Thank you
Total monthly is under $2000 every month
Genuine question, what, as a single man would make your rent $2,600 a month? I have payments on a $115,000 car as well as rent and insurance and gas and i live alone. For all of those in at 2,500ish a month. I live in a major metro area, Portland Oregon in the middle of downtown as well. 995 a month for a 1 bedroom, 1100 car payment, 400 a month insurance and I don’t drive much so maybe 80-100 gas for the car. Just wondering why rent is so much
He lived in Hawaii. Here in Texas a 1 Bedroom in DFW area is $1500 average.
Hawaii … that’s the deal
And get this .. that’s average
You would not believe the costs
Food ? Insane
Gas? Highest in USA
Everything else … highest haha
