I’m 54 and I use genki insurance which costs me $85usd/month. Last month I had eye surgery in Türkiye which cost $1250 including an eye exam. It took 3 weeks to get reimbursed $1187. I am very happy with genki.
Is it a medical insurance that covers a visit to a doctor or hospital for anything? Or you can only use it during an accident like when you break a leg?
I heard great things about them
I’m looking into it
Nice and informative video, thank you
You are most welcome
Thanks. You are answering the health care question.
Yes :-)
There is a link in the description as well for more information
Hello, thank so much for your content. You have become my favorite blogger in Asia. Thank you for your authenticity, it’s refreshing. I retire early this year, planning a long visit in the spring. I hope you are still there when i arrive, id like to take us shopping in Bangkok. I am a fitness professional and a fashion consultant. Mahalo.
Very kind of you , are you making fitness videos here on RUclips? I think that’s great!
You have a lot to offer others to be healthy !
Yes great presentation thank you
You are most welcome
Have a great week
I'm living comfortably here in Tbilisi for $10000 a year and It could be a lot less if I didn't eat out so much
$10,000 a year !! That is awesome
Congrats, staying in Chiang Mai gave you a big leftover for your budge for this month, and enjoyed your life. Aloha from Montreal! Hope to meet you someday in Thailand😊
A big hello to you !
Thank you
Have a good day
I spent about 4 days in Chiang Mai 12 years ago with my wife and daughter. It looks like the costs haven't changed much, which is great!
True
Great prices
Great video and information
Thanks
You are most welcome :-)
Fantastic content !! So excited to visit all the restaurants and Bed and breakfasts which l love .. thank you so much for sharing
You are absolutely welcome
Have a good week
To me Gaps house looks like one of the finest places you have stayed- what a nice room😎
I'm not some health freak, but you should try to avoid white bread.
Just like sugar it's no good🙄
Gaps house is a lovely location
So green and lush
last year I had to go to the hospital in Sri Lanka, had loads of tests, put on a drip, then follow up, but we couldn't claim on medical insurance - because it didn't even reach the excess, as so cheap
In the US we're so trained to expect huge numbers for healthcare, it's kind of shocking to see how little it costs everywhere else.
This is interesting!
Thank you for sharing this
!
I can see you’re well below $24,000 . Wow the bags are beautiful . Great video and info ..
Stay well …
Yes true ! Staying below , buying dividend stocks monthly with the remainder
Hi Chris, really enjoyed this video, thank you. With regards to your 30-day monthly costs. It would be great to get 'a bit more detail' on the screen, eg a breakdown that month all together with a total for the 30-days. This could be: accomodation, groceries, eating out, entertainment, utilities, transport, mobile costs inc SIM card, etc etc.. That way your subscribers can all see what the breakdown and total costs were for that month, as many of us want to do the same but need to know the detail. Thanks for everything you do. Cheers Ian :) (from the UK)
Thank you I appreciate this !
Pretty sure he mentioned most of those items already .... Comes a time when we have to step off the plank and discover things for ourselves rather being spoonfed every detail .. Self discovery of these things is one of the most enjoyable aspects of travel.
For those here who make snarky comments doubting his happiness living a minimalist lifestyle, let me remind you of a quote from the Matrix: "You take the blue pill - the story ends, you wake up in your bed and believe whatever you want to believe. You take the red pill - you stay in Wonderland, and I show you how deep the rabbit-hole goes.”
Well said !
Yes there are a few people that are in personal pain
They might be the most important ones I need to reach
:-)
Agree!! I prefer the traditional housing, food and experiences!
It doesn’t feel like a good cultural experience in a high rise condo or hotel. ❤
@@destinationmax yes true
More chill and peaceful
Thank you 🙏🏼
You are most welcome
Thx for sharing 😊
You make great videos but most of all you have a fantastic vibe.
This is so kind of you
Thank you
Great cost of living comparison between Western and SE Asian lifestyles.
Those Vietnamese coffee Robusta beans get me jittery too.
Not driving is priceless: saving money, getting exercise, and not dealing with traffic!
Yes powerful coffee!
Yeah no more driving for me
:-)
Thanks for your videos Thailand is best for the soul when you see the goodness of it
True
It’s a peaceful destination
Good people
How do you find accommodation? Do you use a specific website to find the best hotels?
I use Expedia for ease of search with maps included
I set costs to $16 to $20
Love the content! You are living life the way I am envisioning my retirement in the future haha
Very nice!
I hope to inspire you :-)
another great one, how do you decide the next country and where to stay?
I look for low cost options
Also beautiful scenery for videos
Was in CM last year and love it:) Just came back from Taiwan and was also blown away with the low costs....had an emergency hospital admission and the quality and costs blew me away..The eye consultant spoke excellent English too!
you should go .. lovely , warm people who speak English ..
I should check out Taiwan for sure !
You’re living the life! Congratulations and keep up the great videos
Thank you so much :-)
Chris, another great video. I really love your positivity.
Stay Safe, and Stay Blessed !
Very kind
Thank you :-)
This really helps ❤
Thanks for sharing brother. Cheers from 2 Canadians 🇨🇦 living in Mexico.🇲🇽✌🏼
A big thank you to you both

Hey guys ❤ fancy seeing you here! Great minds! I haven’t formally announced it yet, but I already have movers coming to put my Mexico things in storage next Thursday and then I’m flying out on September 6th to slow travel in SA, then SEA to explore before I have to be back in Mexico 🇲🇽 to transfer my residencia temporal to permanent.
Great show, very informative.
Thank you for this feedback !
Thank you for sharing the information

Chris, I was in CM about 6 years ago. For your viewers, it would blow them away to see how modern the Maya Mall is in CM close to Nimman. Just the scooter parking lot was crazy full. Once people see the amenities available, they'd understand that you're not giving up your standard of living in Thailand. Did you check out the songthaew's for traveling in CM? Or the CM to BKK sleeper train? Great stuff.
I agree
I hope to inspire people to see and try this
Oh yes I heard the sleeper is nice
I need to try it
Thank you!
You are welcome !
Have a good week
Can you please talk about the platforms you book your hotels and flights etc, thanks bro! Keep on travelling ✊
Ohh yes, your recommended travel insurance company please 😊
Yes ok :-)
I use Expedia and agoda mostly
Search the price you want too
Makes it easy
The maps help too so you know how day you are from sites to walk to
That table spice will have you reaching for the Lomotil real quick. $1.50 for a bowl of PHO! Amazing. I need cleanings every 3 months on my snags. Here it is now $200. a pop. 6 implants on upper and lower with Zirconia is $60 thousand easy.
Good prices !
Great info …thanks

Saving money can be fun. Mahalo.
I agree :-)
Fantastic content found you just in time while planning my buy borrow die strategy. gtfo the matrix! stay up kings 💪👑💰✈
Nice! Disconnect from the matrix
The only problem is for oldies like me, what happens if the GOV, stops pensions for
people living overseas, then, what do we do.
Oh my I have not heard any country talking about that
Don’t stress
Chris. If there's such a thing as "The PERFECT VIDEO," then that was it. Excellent! ... PS. I notice you didn't specifically mention a particular company re travel/health insurance, but you do mention it in the vid description .. I have noticed a lot of Successful Travel RUclipsrs, like P Doyle etc, advocate a particular travel insurance company and are in fact "sponsored" by them. I won't mention it here.
Thank you for your kind words!
Check out the description in my latest video

Chris, do you think Chiang Mai is safe for solo female travelers? Did you see many?
Thank you for your content! It is helping us wannabes!
So many single women in Chiang Mai
Yes I think it’s safe :-)
@@RetireandGoGood to know! Definitely gonna put it on my short list. Thanks!
Great advice the only thing I would change is drink water instead of Diet Coke 🤔
Yes probably good advice! Haha
Do you drink bottled water? What are the sources of the local's water?
@@michaelsnively3621 yeah good luck with that. 😳
@@RetireandGo I need to drink 8 glasses of water a day. I am guessing you can't drink the local water? When I was in Penang, the bottled water was not cheap so how do you keep the cost of water down?
@@lolaz1936 I need to drink more water
I drink mostly diet cola and diet sprite

You are checking all of the boxes here. I love Thailand since Day 1.~ I suspect I will spend 40 weeks a year here if all goes as planned, but I always like to see what people like yourself and Dan @ Vagabond Awake are doing in the nearby countries. Tthat helps me decide where to spend those remaining 12 weeks or so. Have I missed it, or have you hit The Philippines yet? If not, I look forward to seeing what you see there. Safe travels!
Oh yes Philippines was a nice trip in 2023
I have many videos of the trip :-)
i been in Pattaya now for 3 weeks. On soi 6, a car hit the back of my leg and ran over my foot. I stood up and blocked his way, then motioned for him to get out of the car. He opened the door and pushed me, so I pushed him down, and he grabbed a broom and started swinging it at me.....all the girls standing in the street were screaming. I pushed him down again. It was so EPIC.....!!!!
Dude!!
Wild night
Soi 6 is crazy for sure
How is your leg and foot
Are you ok?
Great advice my friend. Nobody talks about this stuff.
I hope I can bring some good information to you :-)
my monthly living cost is 2900 to 3k euro. 2600$ is a lot better already.
Nice
Haha :-)
Another great video Chris. I love seeing the small restaurants and bars you visit. And you speak a lot of sense as well. 1 question. Do you get money from the adverts on RUclips?
Great question
RUclips money is very small
If it pays for gear I break like tripods then I’m good with it
Haha
Cheers. Stay safe. 👋
I can't wait to see where you go next! I'm living vicariously through your travels. Dental work is insanely expensive in the states, good to know Thailand is an option. I usually head to Mexico.
I understand
Thailand has saved me so much in dental costs
Check out the link in the description of my newest video for travel healthcare coverage. :-)

Thank you
Is your youtube channel monetized? Would you do a video about what your make if it is?
RUclips pay is very little
If you plan to get into it try to get a few sponsors in the subject of your channel ok?
That’s the best way
Good video! I was hoping you were going to provide an actual breakdown of what you spent for the month. It sounded like your total cost was around $1,000, but it wasn't clear, because you just said you spent well under $2,000. Thanks!
Yes true
Each month is under $2000
Costs, flights, dividend stock buys
Imo it’s more difficult to keep a low budget indefinitely, I can only speak for myself. I have traveled like this for years, but eventually I ended up with a Thai girlfriend for the last few years and my life changed. My choice of course I love the companionship. Yes it’s great having the freedom of the single life, but life is never predictable. I still travel, but it’s so good to have a base to call home, which is the Jomtien area. Still keep to a reasonable budget within my means, life is good 😊
Jomtien has a nice feel to it
The beach, condos, restaurants
chiang mai is good at that time, I am in vietnam and it is too hot here last days . summer time 😒
Oh yes
The summer heat !
Great video! Thumb up!
1. Repatriation to US Hospitals. Do you have an insurance back in US? If not, how benefitial is that? The US bill will screw you up so why not to compete the treatment in Thai hospital instead?
2. You stayed 30 days in a hotel. Have you considered renting a condo for 30 days instead? Lower price, better ammenities (washing machine, kitchen etc)
3. You must have gotten 60-day stamp last time you entered Thailand. Do you still leave for another country after 30 days?
Safe travels!
Great question
I use veterans administration medical in the US
But I would most likely just fly to Thailand and pay cash for treatments of any kind

It feels like the expenses keep going up each year, making it tougher to stay on top of everything.
It's definitely getting more challenging to keep up with expenses.
I've actually managed to keep up quite well. I'm even contemplating the idea of early retirement for myself.
That's quite remarkable! How did you manage to accomplish that?
Our family was connected with a financial consultant named Desiree Ruth Hoffman about four years prior to my dad's retirement. That was a turning point for us; she has been very helpful over the years. I believe my retirement finances are set on the right path, including luxury cars and trips.
I'm well acquainted with Desiree Ruth Hoffman as well! She's truly adept at analyzing market trends and assisting clients in safeguarding their finances and investing wisely in areas like real estate, gold, and more.
Where is your next destination? Philippines? Stay blessed. Aloha!
I have so many plans this year !
Excited!
Stay with me in these travels !
:-)
Is this area good for vegan options? I love my veggies and like to consume most of it raw. Juicing, smoothies and salads. BTW- that is the best insurance on your health. You would be surprised. Do they grow kale there?
Oh my Thailand will be heaven for you
True !
It's been a month already? Yikes, time is flying by...
Have you seen the cost of a plate lunch?
Oh I know
I see the costs on Facebook
I’m like dang !
Have you been to Ko LAN island supposed to be amazing
Oh yes
I have a few vids on it
I like it
Chris, how do you deal with jury duty when away? Thank you 🙏🏼
This is a great question!
I was a law enforcement officer after the military so I just get passed over
No defense attorney wants a former cop in the jury haha
Don’t premium credit cards cover that emergency tavel insurance such as Amex plat and chase reserve
Some do yes! Some Amex cards are fantastic for travel insurance
Auto rental
Theft
Medical

Hi Chris, great video. Quick question about healthcare. If you had to be repatriated back to the US due to a big illness (heart problems, cancer etc), do you have insurance cover in the US to cover medical bills? I ask as I've heard it is very expensive there. Thanks

Emergency

Chris how does the income tax work on dividends from stocks or 401k ....i know some are qualified like SCHD....? Im retiring overseas wondersing how the rules are
In the US you can shelter the first $40,000 from qualifying dividends
It’s something everyone should be doing
Search for companies that are qualifying
And finds like you mentioned
Great way to go !
I don’t use a 401 because I retired early
Just a regular stock market account
Dividends and a separate growth account
Do you have address and phone # for the GAP HOUSE,Thxs 🙏

So what were the costs total for the month?
@@tOrangePeel1972 total monthly costs?
@@OregonSteve I didn't notice it either. The $460 was the total cost of his dental work for the new crown. He estimated $180 for food, rent would likely be around $450-$600, + transportation, and some miscellaneous things. You can definitely get by decently for around $1000 USD.
@@tOrangePeel1972 I don't think he was very specific on his cost for those 30 days, but he keeps it under $2000usd a month. (>24,000.00/year)
