This enamel timepiece has been designed to commemorate 110 years since Japan’s very first wristwatch, created by Seiko in 1913: The ‘Laurel.’
One of the Presage Takumi craft designs, this limited-edition watch is inspired by the design elements of that first wristwatch and incorporates several of the original features including the proportions, lug shape, font and colouring - noticeably with the signature red 12 o’clock, just like its inspiration.
The enamel dial has been recreated by hand by skilled Japanese artisan craftsman Mr Yokosawa using traditional heritage enamelling techniques. The historical design is combined with the modern Automatic in-house 6R27 calibre movement, with a power reserve of over 45 hours.
The Seiko Presage collection inherits more than a century of watchmaking tradition and remains true to its values of Japanese precision and beauty in every piece.

I have a possible cousin to this.. a SARX027. dial is based on Riki Wantanabe's design, fire enamel, actually the very first fire enamel dial Seiko offered back a few years ago. It has 39mm case diameter and I believe something like 13mm+ case height so I'd imagine it would have about the same look on wrist. I personally love how it wears. The fire enamel(grand feu) dial is stunning. Surprisingly very good quality. I wasn't expecting much due to the price of the watch but was very pleasantly surprised. Anyway, I love this Laurel tribute piece. I think Seiko did a nice job. I would have preferred to have it not come with a date function and just a running seconds at the 6. power reserve complication is ok with me. It's something neat and it doesn't draw attention to itself way they did it.. Thinking real hard about possibly picking this one up!

Interesting movement choice, besides the thickness I can feel the attraction to it.
The dial I think is hard to pass, quite special.
Thank you for sharing this piece.
I hope 2023 will turn out to be an interesting year for you in your new professional endeavor.

The date wheel is numbered up to 31 so all ok if there are 31 days that month but if there is only 30 then you will have to change the date Sir

Great video. Can I confirm that the hands are heat blued? In the closeup at 2:50, the hands looked like they were coated with blue material, much like their usual Seiko Presage hands. Thank you.

A nice take on a trench watch, and very glad Seiko have made it. But, I'm wearing a 1920s Waltham of the same style and it's slim. The Seiko really does sacrifice something with that height. Perhaps if they'd stuck with a hand-wound movement it might have helped. I think the height would put the obvious buyers off, which is a shame. Great review as always nevertheless.

Thanks Sir , I've a Waltham pocket watch movement I was thinking of fitting in a wrist watch case at same point , I hand wind I do think would of been a more fitting movement for the watch

I do agree the Seiko 6R and 4R movements are either good like this one 1sec per day or bad but this one I was very impressed with, but on the other hand the Alpinist I had last week was pretty poor , that to was a 6R movement
