Hi winter! I’m a relatively new (1 year) Starcraft 2 player, I originally played Zerg but it was too hard so I switched to toss but the Low APM challenge made me switch back to Zerg because it let me give goals to focus on, thank you :)
Hello. Finally, an honest message... I am gold toss and there is a huge difference between plat and diamond+ zerg. At high level, zerg is too strong for me. Any protoss unit can be countered at high level, but so far infestors, vipers, quick army composition change/adaptation and even Queen walks are impossible to counter. I think the only difference between zerg players is APM and IQ. If you like playing zerg, you can become unstoppable in ZvT and ZvP matches. Zerg is not for everyone because for e.g. I find it boring to concentrate my game on Queen injects and spread creep. It's like a clusterfuck for my joy to play SC. So I prefer to struggle as protoss than to win as zerg. Glhf
Just wanted to say that your guides and angry coaching have inspired me to play until I get ladder anxiety. I’m now plat w/Terran and gold with Protoss and Zerg (comng from bronze/silver) love your stuff!! (I play every race don’t be mad at me)
I have tried ling/bane comps so many times just to heavily bruise marauders and have to gg out when my army supply goes to 0. Thank you for that G2 Winter. Going to try that little piece of knowledge out asap
My entire surprise and respect at the whole baneling move moment in the first game was wiped away by the fact twitch chat needed so much explaining for something so simple.
I have a couple of questions: -Is a gasless opener ever worth it? What changes of the early game do you have to keep in mind when you play gasless? And if you do play gasless, when should you eventually take your geysers? -If your game plan is the boring roach/hydra max out then attack, is it a better idea to max out as fast as you can and attack with only roach hydra, or wait another minute or so in order to attack with hive tech (vipers) as well?
Gasless is only for protoss in my opinion, queen speedling is the backbone of early game defense, and pulling 2 out of gas makes it possible for getting your tech while also getting an early third, and also, having a single, solid early game build is essential for improving the later game Edit:im also not a theorycrafter, dont take my word as fact
I like an upgrade that gives them a toggle for extra range and a DoT bit attacks do no damage. Just a long range single target toggle would be pretty cool. Also remove the light tag. I just want mutas to have a bit more utility as an air unit since the spire is so lack luster right now.
Maybe they also don't make as many units, because they don't try to overwhelm another zerg like they usually do with the other races? I feel like it's a battle of harrass and patience. How long can you go without giving up the micro and lose all your units?
wow how many times did you have to go over the ling bane micro because people not grasping, such a simple concept yet so powerful. Banes take hits instead of lings mean lings can fight for longer, once banes explode all damage is directed to lings. Tanks can potentially hit banes twice that are in melee range of marine marauder causing tank friendly fire splash damage, which is additional splash damage before bane explodes on death to cause even more splash damage meaning 1 baneling could effectively AOE 3 times (2 tank shots + explode on death) rather than once as soon as it touched an enemy unit.
It's unfair that ravagers anounce where the shots will land. Tanks don't show the target area, widow mines either, give the zerg something other than just a "back off a little"
Winter never talks about double click. If you just double click a unit on the screen it selects all of that unit type on screen. Very good for lurkers because they are a big circle, easy to click. Not very good for like ghosts though, but all zerg casters are big. But even if you've got all your lings and banes on screen just double click in the middle of all the lings or all the banes and can split them however. This is also a less effective crutch than control groups but for those of us who will never be able to use more than 5-10 buttons and have to look at the keyboard to type, Just double click your casters. Of course if you don't have any other casters in your group it will always put lurkers on top so that's nice. But as soon as I throw in a viper or infester i just start double clicking my lurkers. I dnt type glhf because ide have to lift my hand. I set ALL my abilities to 5 buttons or shift variations of those 5 buttons. ALL my camera locations to 3 buttons on mouse or shift variations of them, and ALL my main buildings to the same 5 buttons. Can hang with diamonds when i cant even type without looking at keyboard with this strat and double clicking.
@@itsnoblesse cus sometimes I hit buttons around control or shift instead on accident. Not everyone is awesome with a keyboard and I don't have to move my hand at all if I just double click. It's preference but they are about the same speed and he has never brought it up as an option.
@@MrCreed145 I'm pretty sure PiG talked about this pretty extensively in one of his B2GM videos, double clicking moving units (especially faster ones) is significantly more fiddly and time consuming than just control clicking. This isn't a mechanics thing, control clicking is a very basic thing that even non-gamers do very frequently in day-to-day life. If it's something you can't do then there's a very very serious lack of basic mechanical execution on your part.
@@itsnoblesse your certainly entitled to your opinion bud 😂 I explained thoroughly already counter points to what you keep saying. Your reply that everyone even non-gamers use control click every day? Whatever helps you sleep at night man. Just re-read is all I can say. Feel free to die on this hill I guess. I keep my pinky on the shift key and all the zerg casters are huge so it's just easier to double click them.
Winter, can you focus more on keeping lower APM in every moment of the game? The average person has one ovary and one testicle. Doing Dia2+ actions here and there, and then leaving the keyboard and mouse for 1 minute explaining why APM is not as important is a bit confusing. Or maybe do some commentary to your current actions if getting hot, like 20:45: in my opinion on Plat3 you should lose all the army, I cannot pull such control off in Dia3. Actually you did some commentary when adding banes in zvt to the menu :-) (39:30)
How do you handle mid game scouting? With your help I climbed to diamond but I struggle a lot in the midgame. I'm constantly busy splitting my army for multy grouped assaults, and sometimes it feels impossible to keep track of the medivacs, chargelots and warp prisms. And is there a quick and easy way to split your army other than haphazardly trying to drag a box over about half your units and praying that both sides receive about half of each unit type?
these are amazingly helpful! I never really see people use the overlord creep gush with queens to spread creep fast... is that just some slow bronze league hero stuff? or do some pros actually use them in mass to cover the map?
Idk if Winter is still picking out comments for the next one, but i have a question. How do you deal with Muta is Z v Z? Do u have to scout it, if so what timing can u expect, and is it then moota v moota or is there other options? Loving the vids, thx for ur time :)
Small question when you use a drone holding minerals to build a building do you lose your 5 minerals or gain them? I've watched you far often then not build anything with minerals in hand.
vipers require high apm so low apm players like me simply doesnt use them, its mass corruptors and offensive spores with overlord creep for me and i build nydus network to everybases instead of spreading creep late game. Will even use proxy nydus with defense spores around it on enemy side of map on a depleted base that id destroy just before building the nydus worm so i can reinforce fast or return their to defend home instead of slow walking accross the map.
Hey Winter! Thank you for continuing the series. Love it! Platinum Zerg here. I have a few questions. First, I was hoping you can give tips/stopping points on when to make/stop making units? Esp since gold and plat involves the enemy making some type of 1 or 2 base all in. I can defend mostly the initial push and after that either I make too few units or made too much it hurts my economy. I can defend the initial push because of the 1st ovi scouting if there's a natural or not so I have a general idea on how many units they're going to make but after they kill that ovi and u have to send follow up scouts, it's usually too late to react. And since we're here, is there a timing on when u send ovi/ling scouts? Like every 2 mins or so? Because sometimes u send scouts like that 2 overseer to check if that protoss have Stargates, but in one game, just seeing that marauder gave you the info that they are not doing the standard 1-1-1 since there are no hellions and u didn't need to send a follow-up scout since u have all the info u need. What exactly are we looking for in early/mid/late game against specific races? I know it has to do with 12 years of playing but if u can make some general scouting points/guides that would be great since I feel like I'm losing my games because of information gathering/lack thereof as every score screen I have usually indicates I do better than the other side except build the right units/upgrades at the right time. I hope you can structure a future low apm zerg guide around scouting as well since u said on the Serral vs. MaxPax video that it's important for Step 1. Find out what's up, Step 2. Find out what's next. And you always say that the difference between a Plat player to a Master Player is that a Plat player builds an army, loses it, then builds the right army/gets the right upgrades afterwards. I would like to skip that losing army part if that's okay 😆😆😆 Which leads me to the next question, do u also take upgrades whenever there's aggression? Why/why not? I ask this because in that muta dogfight that you are having, you researched flying carapace which completely won u the game because ur mutas lasted longer than his. There's also the baneling speed +health and carapace upgrade that made the banelings survive tank shots that won u the other game as well. Are there any game changing upgrades that we need to keep in mind during mid fights/early aggression like that? Lastly, how do you determine if u need static defense for the pushes? I see u sometimes make static defenses early/mid/late game and sometimes u don't. Hope u can give some stopping points/tips to remember on when to build/stop building units/static d's. Thank you!!!
I'm plat zerg myself but I think I can answer some of it. This is against T and P. The 13 ovy I send to the nat. Then when I build a 20 ovy I send the other ovy from nat to their main. Then it will be there in time to scout for the choice of tech. When ling speed is done I build ~16 lings, and send two to their 3rd and 4th bases. If they are still there around 5 minutes, it's a two base pressure so don't drone your 3rd all the way. If you face aggression you try to macro up between defending their waves. Vibe calls it a "drone window" when you have won a fight and know that your opponent can't attack immediately after. You should still get upgrades but of course it's okay to delay them in order to survive. In a "standard" game I get two evo chambers around 5 minutes and then make sure they are upgrading all the time after that. Although against P if he's without carriers you don't need ground carapace because your units are killed by the same number of hits anyway.
@@fdcrat Thank you so much! I've actually taken this advice and could read well into the mid game more consistently now by sending lings to their bases and I've gotten used to the timings a bit. I don't make 16 lings tho I just make around 8, 4 to scount on the main/nat, 2 to scout the 3rd/4th, and and 2 on the watch towers. I really like playing economically and macro-ing up so any chance I can get to save minerals on lings to build drones, I will haha! Usually around 5 mins if they are still in 2 base, it will most definitely be a push and I make units to defend and just macro up to win after defending the push with that advantage. With regards to your trivia against P that don't need ground carapace, it is very much welcomed! I didn't know that! So u usually just go 2 attacks from the evos if they're without carriers then?
@@Swarloooooos It's true that every pair of zerglings you build is a drone lost. I build more because I use them for defence against the first hellions/adepts/lings or to deny the 3rd if he plays too greedily and cannot defend. Against P the standard seems to be just one evo, which then can be a bit faster than vs terran. You can do two if you want to play ling/bane/ravager. But you need to scout well because you are behind if he shows up with carriers and you don't have carapace.
I defeated a bunch of master lvl players with 40 apm and 4 times more dead marines then every units my oppenents made. I learned this play style from playing vs AI Elite and beating it with pure maccro. Turns out most master lvl players cant beat the elite difficulty ai because they build army too early or too late.
@@Schmaeil my point is, if your maccro is great you dont need micro. A maxed out marinearmy will always beat your 12 to 24 blink stalkers no matter how good your micro is becdause you'll run out of room to run to and if you out produce the micro maniac, you can just ignore his units and go for the buildings. Buildings cant move and you lose if they all die. In late game im making 48 marines at a time anfd 8 to 10 hellbats for frontal tanking. I also make small groups of 3 or 4 widow mines and burry them in the middle of map to retrat to when my army is decimated. But mostly i have my my barracks rally point on the center front of my bases and and send em to attack the moment my the army i sent to attack earlier starts to die, in otherwords, endlessattack waves just like the ai. I just Attack move till they die, ill start doing a bit of micro like retreating if mineral fields starts getter low.
There was a grand master korean called bomber that played like mee with low apm, he came c'lose to winning a few tournements but would lose only because stupid game maps doesn't have enough minerals.
@@tusk3260 gl with your bio army if they have colossi and or storm and the macro over micro will only get you so far. at some point you need to manage your units (ghosts, libs, tanks, mines, stim, splits and so on)
@@Schmaeil Colossi dies quick from corruptors storm does ZERO damage to spores. - As for terran, i do some mines but its mostly marine/hellbats then i switch to mase battle cruisers in late game. It really is strong and will beat master level players. Might not work vs grandmaster but its still way better then trying high micro strategy when your brain cant cant keep up, you'll just end up doing mistakes and your maccro will suffer greatly. Get that in your thick skull: Not everyone is able to keep up with hiigh miccro and economy at the same time, what worse is as you grow older, your reactions and apm will get slower and slower. I am 30 years old, there is no way i can keep up with the quick reflexs of a 13 year old. But i can still compete at master level thanks to my high maccro and game knowledge.

Why can't I press the skip ad button??!
Oh and btw, hi Bionic Shiba.
Hi Bionic Shiba!
Yo dawg
hi shiba no ban plz
Hi Sheba.
Hi shiba
I defeated a bunch of master lvl players with 40 apm and 4 times more dead marines then every units my oppenents made. I learned this play style from playing vs AI Elite and beating it with pure maccro. Turns out most master lvl players cant beat the elite difficulty ai because they build army too early or too late.
people in bronze got the master border and vice versa, its just visual, their mmr is still what it normaly is
@@Schmaeil my point is, if your maccro is great you dont need micro.
@@tusk3260 gl with your bio army if they have colossi and or storm
and the macro over micro will only get you so far.
at some point you need to manage your units (ghosts, libs, tanks, mines, stim, splits and so on)
@@Schmaeil Colossi dies quick from corruptors storm does ZERO damage to spores.

As for terran, i do some mines but its mostly marine/hellbats then i switch to mase battle cruisers in late game. But i can still compete at master level thanks to my high maccro and game knowledge.
someone played hon ;)
