The Low APM challange is the perfect example as to why good players are good. Not being they are faster, but because they know what they need to do. A Bronze player with Maru lvl APM will still fail. Kind of like the "Stupid faster" meme. Bronze Player "Haha behold I have 1000 APM!" Silver Player: "Does that mean you are a pro now?" Bronze Player "No. I am bad faster. I make 15 Moves a second and all of them are wrong!"
Thank u winter, i shall sleep now, wake up, and watch it all again cause i play zerg, bless Edit: Now that i have rewatched after sleeping, why yes, u doing arcade games and other stuff sounds very exciting, and i do need more background noise for my other games, so i shall check out that other channel winter, i shall indeed!
Depends on what league you are talking about. Platinum and diamond is full of "lost" zerg players that just stole the ladder points from players who don't know how to wall off against zergling floods, especially protoss since they don't have easy depots. Once that stops working, they just start to lose a lot.
The problem with this is you can spike apm to deal with cheese or micro intensive situations that truely newer or slower players couldn't do. You could remedy this by switching hands, mouse in left keyboard on right. This way your going to have sloppy play and mis clicks like us metal leaguers , and decision making becomes paramount which is the whole point of this series
Taking the concepts of low APM challenge and just speeding up over time has helped me go from a platinum to medium diamond protoss. Even the Zerg and Terran videos help me improve my knowledge of the other races, their strengths, timings, weaknesses and breakpoints.
For the upgrades question the default is upgrade weapons first except in specific match ups: vs rine/rauder - carapace upgrade first, or else your units die b4 closing the gap vs mutas- get armor first as it affects each bounce of the glaive attack vs zealots heavy- get armor for lings to avoid getting 2 shot, otherwise ignore

Winter remaining calm in face of panic and drama is such an inspiration to play more Sc2, not because the fun of it but as a course in emotional intelligence. I'm personally kinda dissapointed with the ammount of zvz in this vod. I am a diamond 3 zerg with a 75% winrate vs zerg, but a 35% winrate vs the other 2 races. This vod is more useful to my victims than it is to me!
@@Leonhart_93 I never rush vs terran or protoss. Big macro-virgin. Vs zerg I do the ling-bane pig suggests and then rush to mutas if I smell roaches. If I get ling bane muta on the field at all it’s usually gg. Lately ive had to rush towards muta even harder because everyone is doing winters roach shit now. WHY DID YOU HAVE TO FIGHT SO MANY ZERGS WINTER!
@@tubesism Looks like you already know exactly where your problem is: macro and late game units. There are a lot of zergs like this in the platinum league, they got there by basically executing 12 pools and ling floods every game vs opponents (esp protoss) that didn't knew wall offs are a thing, but once everyone starts walling off which is around plat they get popped every time. Then they have to learn to actually macro, but they will be behind the curve for a while.
it seems like some advice boils down to "get good, kiddo," which is fair enough, but how to practice things like caster usage, good habits, etc when i'm barely keeping up with my opponents? better to trust matchmaking, take the derank and work back up starting with sloppier opponents? in the past, you have described your process to staying mindful revolved around watching replays and breaking down errors, which you would focus on during future matches. however, it may be several games before i get to a similar game state. what are your tips for identifying and working out bad habits during play? how would you suggest i make the most out of the games i play?
Watch your replays and consider what you were doing and why you did that. If you lost the match what caused you to lose and how would you be able to prevent that going forward. If you won the match, why did you win. Were you the better player, or did your opponent make a blunder that let you recover? If your struggling against a certain strategy what can you do, within reason to look for it, identity it, and counter it. If your in diamond you've probably seen most of the strategies players use by now. So it should be a matter of going into a game with a plan, and adapting that plan to your specific opponent.
@@epicfail5473 i'm unable to trust my judgement on those questions, since my rank did not go up simply by replay review. but then, i watch commentators and nod along like, "this person gets it, i'll just trust them," and it tends to really help my play. why? how does one develop that kind of understanding, and even extend it? how to make the most out of those replays, answer the questions you proposed, and trust the conclusions? the times when the mechanics are off are easy calls, but in terms of decision-making it's not so easy to trust my determination of the error(s), though to many i'm sure that determination seems obvious. once you've come to a conclusion of "XYZ is why i won/lost," how do you test those conclusions and improve them, when the game state can differ so greatly between matches -- even by some miracle where you get the same map, races, and unit comps? what are the tools to pitch the unnecessary and focus on the critical (e.g. strategies, positioning, timing)? the easy answer would be "play more games," but i'm interested in making the process efficient and directed.
@@slunchery If your reviewing your replays and find yourself unable to trust in your own judgement, ultimately the best answer is, as you said, "play more games" All of the casters one might watch on RUclips or Twitch have put in over thousands of hours of gametime, have played thousands of matches, and have reviewed a thousand more (more than that but I'm sure you get the point) If you have the desire to do so you could send in one of your better matches (win or lose) to Winter and get yourself on an episode of Angry Coach. Or you could watch videos from that collection to see if the advice applies to your strategies as well. In a game like Starcraft were there are so many things going on and so many factors that are all adding up to determine a match it can be difficult to know why certain outcomes occurred.
