Wow rebuilding a power steering box is something I never thought I do. I really appreciate your help. I’m looking into rebuilding a steering gearbox for a 85 c10
I've never seen a grown man struggle like you on this video it is hilarious to watch you work On that gearbox but I'm still waiting for you to smash your fingers With that hammer and chisel and those Rubber glows. Did you ever hear that song when the service comes to town that's what's running through your mind right now
omg 🙏thanks for this video itll help me alot when i work on my 1979 camaro it leaks from where rhe steering column n gear box connect so im just gna replacw the two small seals!! thank u for sharing!!
Hello how are you. My 1976 firebird had a leak coming out where the torsion bar goes into the stub shaft. There is not much information on Google about the torsion bar. I pressed out the pin on the input shaft that holds the torsion bar and removed it and looked inside the input stub shaft and it has a groove where it looks like an o ring can fit. I found an o ring that fits snug inside and reassemble it and no more leaks. There is no seal kit for the torsion bar maybe it uses some kind of adhesive sealant because there was no o ring inside???
Is this MisteryMan??? You sound the same and are making the same comments that I was told a few years back when I needed help with my 93 D250 and I am cross referencing my dealer manual on CD as I'm going through your video. I'm going to go through all of your videos now. Your very detailed and a plethora of knowledge!
Yes was great vid and info on taking it apart and refurbishing housing but where is the put back together vid? As I am having problems getting the nut back in with the new Teflon seal. It seems to want to catch the edge of housing and squished the Teflon seal almost pushing it back off the nut instead of sliding back in as I have saw on other vids. Of course not my luck it is super tight.
Question... I have a box that has grooves inside the input shaft bore where the 3 Teflon o-rings sit. Is the box destroyed? Is this a normal condition? Can it be fixed? I'd love to send you images of the problem
Educational & entertaining. I was most surprised when he mentioned cd’s bc up to that point I’d been picturing this fella drinking his Milwaukee’s best sitting in his garage listening to 8-tracks
worm shaft seal is leaking and don’t have not even a mile in my 56 chevy truck in think its a 500 series just need a part number for the kit ,when i turn it it leaks is it easy or should i use lucas stop leak
After replacing the high pressure hoses, my Land Rover Discovery 1 steering box starting grunting when turning wheel at a stop or just moving. Works fine with no slop or noise when in normal use. What's making the noise, air has been bleed out? Do I need to rebuild the box or replace it?
Thanks for the tutorial. You obviously have done these before ... and that experience shows. I have a question. On the most forward end of the Saginaw box where the aluminum plate and troublesome snap ring is, There is what appears to be a casting "hump" at the 12:00 position when installed. Does that "hump" serve any purpose? Would there be any reason NOT to cut it off? My project is tighter than tight and every inch, or fraction thereof, can make a difference. Thanks, bro. d
awesome video! I installed one of these gear boxes( used one) on my truck and I was trying to figure out why as soon as I fire the truck up the steering wheel started turning to the right, hard! on it's own, and after watching your video ( very explanatoty video I think it has something to do with those ball bearings on the warm shaft ( they were installed wrong previously ) if you could tell me what you think the problem is I would appreciate it, thank you for the video!
I just rebuilt my box but after I reinstalled everything my wheels won't turn and blew a seal. If I disconnect the lines from the pump then I am able to turn the wheels. I'm stuck driving with no power steering until I can figure it out now.
Oh now i found a video on how to get that pitman shaft out after i spend a day banging and twisting and beating and cussing and researching and giving up and putting it back together
Just brilliant. I want my box rebuilt using his burnished bushing. I will finish it!

Great vid… that intra mic looks like a tri mic we used in aviation to measure landing gear trunnions after they have been shimmed and torqued down.
Really, Its been 5 years when are you going to put it back together?
I would really like to see Part 2. Can't find a link to it.

There is no second video. Shouldn't matter if you followed his advice and got a factory service manual though.
Thanks for the video...very helpful
Hey, I gotta pause the video and just comment here dude grab a slotted screwdriver to pull your snap ring
Do you offer this service or know anyone who does? I've got a few of these boxes and I would like them all machined and bushing'd up

When I look for a steering box in the junk yard I’ll look for the least corroded and the lightest engine. Thanks
Where's the reassembly?
So why don’t trucks have rack and pinion, isn’t it simpler, what am I missing?
Newer do but I believe a lot of it is cuz of 4x4 components mostly...just no room
