the weapon is for chopping legs off of horses and would have been floppy in that time period due to metal temperament. a heavy thick blade wouldnt swing fast enough to chop a speeding horse. it would have been a rigid sharp razor like blade thick only on one side. the back of the guanyu was hard with a hook and the front was floppy with a razor blade of steel. the other end had a spike

You want to train for real, train with correctly weighted weapons, not ones that weigh less than a Kilo.
The flappiness of the blade in the video distracts me a lot. "Quan Dao" is famous for its heaviness. Not that it must be that heavy for stage performance, but at least don't make it flap so easily like those flappy sword! It is worse than painting a wooden blade in silver.

It's a performance art. Wushu is not for combat. Back in the day, wushu was trained by theater actors for battle plays. Commies dismantled combat kungfu during the cultural revolution and replaced it with the performance version and used government resources to promote the performance art as martial arts when historically it has always been for theatre.
Wushu weapons used for performances are designed to be lighter and more flexible than the real ones. It’s mostly for aesthetics- the movement and reflections enhance the fast movements. They also make it slightly easier to judge- weapons that aren’t swung hard or fast enough aren’t as loud.

This might be a dumb question but is the floor at these competitions springy like gymnastics floors? I know that gymnastics uses the Taishan brand which is the label on the floor over there but I don't know if it's the same product between the two sports.
@@bluehippofilms thank you so much. I did one gymnastics competition in China and the floor was used by a wushu demo after we were done and it's confused me ever since. Makes sense though, the wushu athletes looked like they were having the time of their lives on our floor haha
I have seen 70 years old man performing hard qigong ,He is only about 1.65 meters tall, very thin about 120 pounds ,He made a big circle with a thin rope and hung it over his ear,A little boy about 10 years old can sit on a rope and swing
As a chinese myself I’m very proud to see a real chinese traditional martial art practitioner representing my culture and martial arts in a very beautiful majestic noble traditional and true authentic way involving wearing hanfu and looking like Guan Yu one of the greatest honourable warriors of ancient China only problem is the martial arts display here is not very good compared to the real Guan Yu because the real Guan Yu has more speed and professional skills compare to this person but still not bad thanks thanks alot for representing my culture

It sure would be nice to use actual combat weapon that way we can truly see the power and skill of the kwan dao wielder. That type of soft "wu shu" style apparatus are not design for actual combat skill it will not cut through a 2"x2" piece of wood or would its thrusting penetrate a carboard those type of apparatus is design for performance, it is an apparatus or equipment not a combat weapon.

Guanyu didn't die on battlefield but beheaded after being captured.

That War Horse belonged to the great general Lu Bu. Lu Bu is the only warrior who could beat Guan Yu in battle.
Imagine if this is a cosplay show, he will be the most badass Guanyu cosplayer.

No bounce at all. The carpet does give a slight bit of cushion compared to a hard floor of course

Its not traditional. These wushu routines were created in the early 1900s. The running back and forth seems really out of place in these routines.

@@rinrin-rl8ye 2百斤不太可能,中国古代大刀分练功刀和实战刀两种。古代武举要求的练功刀也不过几十至上百斤,而且考生要过关只需拿起来转几圈稍微展示一下。实战刀的演练要求就高多了,要求能够“耍花”,因为实战刀轻,一般10几斤而已,这里的时间明显已经达到实战刀的程度了。
