Lost to history, practical Chinese martial arts only have survived as long as the ming dynasty, anything before ming dynasty is lost to history, search of qijiguang and you will find for sparing
Why? What purpose does this serve today? Unless you are expecting the Hun to march on your village, I really don't see what practicality any of these obsolete arts have in today's world other than for validation and attention. Most folks only watch so they can say they were there if he Hurt himself anyway. I would be more Impressed if he taught the entire crowd to stop relying on modern amenities and grow their own food and stop forcing people to pay a price for life.
Hey, is it OK with you if I do something just because I like it? I mean, you seem to be the expert on what is allowed and what is not allowed, so am I allowed to do something because I enjoy or not? Please answer because your opinion is *SO* important to me.
@@ambulocetusnatans it don't take an expert to see you seek validation and nothing more ..if you did it cause you like it, you wouldn't broadcast it for approval. I love scotch ..but don't make videos to show the world so they can pat me on the back and give me the motivation I should be able to find in me without the guide of another's encouragement Perhaps rather than find your ability to wield obsolete weapons, maybe you could find the man in you that shrew-ciety made you feel is obsolete ..you wouldn't need to extend your weakness of character with a long sharpened stick!
@@Christopher-ej2bs Mate, it's art. Nobody expects this dude to go out and murder Huns, but it's fun to watch like how it's fun to watch a dance. I doubt the man performing the form is only practicing this to seek validation. Heck, one of his students probably asked if they could film it. Don't take stuff so seriously. Side note: What kinda scotch you like? and do you only drink it straight, or in cocktails? I love a rusty nail or Rob Roy if I don't want to drink my nice stuff that night.
This isn't an obsolete Art. There's thousands of Martial Artist training in this weapon in some form. It's about keeping a tradition alive. It's about training your Spirit and staying healthy. He's 71 and should be commended. Try it sometime it will change your life for the better. Stay healthy.

I am not convinced this was ever more than a training weapon, it is slow and cumbersome and a real one is too heavy for protacted fighting in battle.
It was used by infantry to chop horses legs and defend against horsemen and their tactical advantages.
