Simple is not the same as easy! Simple things are actually harder to make, and have the most longevity. This song is still regularly being covered, sampled and imitated, close to 40 years later.
The winner and still champ, the greatest music video ever made, even all these years later. Way ahead of its time, technically advanced, great song, great storytelling. It's perfect.
This video was miles ahead of its time. The video is a mixture of rotoscopy and real film. After the video was shot, every single film sequence on the roll of film was drawn over by hand, a job that took more than three months. The video was a huge hit at the 1986 MTV Video Music Awards, earning a-ha awards for Best New Artist in a Video, Best Concept Video, Most Experimental Video, Best Direction in a Video, Best Special Effects in a Video and the Viewer's Choice Award. As for music, it has one of the most awesome riffs in pop music history. The melody gives the impression of being simple, but it's not, try to singing it (I'm just saying Xbox360 Lips 😂). A-ha slowed down Take on me to a ballad at their MTV unplugged concert in 2017, so many people realised what a beautiful base this song has (was used in the movie Deadpool 2, by the way). In any case, countless people failed when trying to sing this song. Morten Harket, the lead singer has a vocal range of 5 octaves, a-ha songs are adapted to this vocal range and are mostly complicatedly knitted, multiple layered, you sometimes only notice that when you take a closer look at the songs or try to play or sing it. Take On Me is by the way not their best song although it was and is a big worldwide hit. A-ha is one of the best bands existing. I would recommend you their 90ies albums and songs like East Of The Sun West Of The Moon Cold As Stone Sycamore Leaves Slender Frame
This song and video are not simple at all, quite the opposite: the lyrics are deep and complex like poetry, along with the video that shines in it's telling a story.
Firstly A-HA’s music is very complex they are always changing and evolving. Ive been an A-HA fan since 1985 when this song came out 38 years ago. I was 16 years old then and I’m almost 54 now. A-HA have been and continue to be the soundtrack to my life and are the only band I’ve ever followed. A-HA’s video for take on me is not simple it uses a technique called rotescope which consists of live action and thousands of hand drawings frame to frame. The take on me video has 14,090 hand drawings in it and took 3 months to complete and then another 3 months to release. A-HA come from Oslo, Norway and consist of 3 multi talented musicians, all of them can play many instruments and they write their own music. They are a criminally underrated and unappreciated band especially in America take on me is all the Americans know them for but actually the are huge everywhere else and are still making music 37 years later. They have released 11 albums the latest one being released in 2022. The keyboard riff in take on me was written by A-ha’s keyboard player when he was 13 years old and still at school with the guitarist and chief songwriter of A-HA. The song was called the juicy fruit song back then and the band was called bridges. It can be found on youtube if your interested.. Take on me is not A-HA’s best work but the song has lasted almost 40 years what new music of today with remembered in the next 40 years? To fully understand A-HA you need to do a deep dive into their huge back catalogue of music. Thankyou for reacting to A-HA. Take care 😘 ❤️🇳🇴❤️A-HA FOREVER❤️🇳🇴❤️ 🥇🥇🥇 🎸🎹🎤 🫠🥰 (Scottish 🏴 and Norwegian 🇳🇴 flags). How many bands have a vocalist that has two guinness world record titles to their name? A-HA does for a song called Summer Moved On which cam later in their career (early 2000’s) for the longest note held during a live performance and is best watched at the ending on a high note concert 2010 at the Oslo Spektrum in Norway. Lead singer Morten Harket has gone on to break his own record since then many times. The other guinness world record was for the largest concert attendance.
This is, for me, the best music video of all times. I love the song and I love the video. The animation technique used on this video is called rotoscoping. It came out in 1985. MTV played the video on a heavy rotation. It was also included on many MTV and VH1 top best videos of all times countdowns during the 80s and 90s especially.
Me and some friends was in Amsterdam, we're from London, when we first heard this song just before it was released in the UK and we all said it would be a big hit.
To make the "animated" portion of the video, a process called rotoscoping was used. The footage was shot live-action, then artists painstakingly went back and sketched every single frame. No small feat.
This song was a mega hit worldwide when it came out. The video was important for the band's breakthrough. The song was so different from anything heard before that it needed playing time for people to get used to it, which it got with the video. There is no doubt that he song stands well on its own. A few years ago it passed 5 million radio plays in the US. At the time, this corresponded to 300-400 times a day on average, for 35 years. It is one of the great classics from the 80s. The video is directed by Steve Barron, who directed Michael Jackson's Billie Jean. Please react to the follow up, The sun always shines on TV. If you are more of the rock type, their songs from the 90's are more in your style, like Sycamore leaves, Early Morning, Cold as Stone, Between your mama and yourself, Memorial Beach...
I was attracted to your channel to watch your Dimash reactions, but this a-ha song was probably my favorite song from the '80s. The lead singer was still making those high notes when I saw the band do a reunion concert a few years ago. Another brilliant animated video from the same time period is the Alan Parsons Project, "Don't Answer Me." ruclips.net/video/JLvFbBR4XOg/видео.html
I love this song it has been in my playlist for decades, A-HA is one of my favorite bands of all time and the lead singer has an amazing voice. As a side note, Diana Ankudinova also made a cover of this song when she was 17 years old, she covers the whole range from super low to super high, although it is short it is a must see.
These guys were all over the radio back in the day. Pentatonix did a cover of this song and Mitch.... OMG the range is crazy good!!! You need to hear it. We don't get a lot of Mitch with his lower range.
Super old and super simple?? Say any of songs nowadays that will be popular in the future, all music that plays on sport and other events are from 80 and earlier
Beside Pitbull, there are other declared fans of A-ha like Chris Martin (Coldplay) and Adam Clayton (U2). Chris M. mentioned that the first album he bought was "Hunting high and Low" - debut album of A-ha.

Yeah you're right. Creativity > Technicality

This video was groundbreaking! I can’t tell you how popular it was back then. The follow up song is “The Sun Always Shines on TV”.
For real ?
@@WollisWorld for real real!
This is the most viewed music video on RUclips from the 80’s, just about 1.7 billion views. The song has been used in many many movies
This video [is] a masterpiece, as far as I am concerned. This was before any special effects were available and every sketch was hand-drawn.

The singer is Morten Harket and the song came out in 1985.

Lol 😂 my husbands favourite band. He's a drummer 🥁 and love all of AHA's songs. Because the drummer is playing very special. 👍

This video by the band Aha from Norway was played on MTV, VHI and the radio a lot back then. It was different than anything else at the time.
Just remember..music came from somewhere. 30 yrs ago..this was cutting edge..lol
I was 21 and the radio played this song all the time...and of course all girls was in to these guys. 80´s in a nutshell!
I can only imagine things were greater then lol compared to now people appreciated music more

They do a great acoustic version of this too.

Loved ❤this song when I was young ‼️ all good music is from 60-70-80 ties ☝️. 🙏❤️✌️
It took 16 weeks to do these drawings by hand.
She's getting some Comic Man tonight.
This was one of my favorite songs in the 80s band from Norway just like Angelina Jordan wild bill 🙂😍🤩👍
Wow that’s dope
Yea pit bull sample it, the famous synth rift was written by the keyboard player when he was only 15 years old
Pentatonix has covered this song. It's 👍
Super old and super simple?? Say any of songs nowadays that will be popular in the future, all music that plays on sport and other events are from 80 and earlier
I think if you look at photos in 30 years time of you they will appear old too.
Pitbull sampled this beat/song.
Oh ok
