Retrospective is literally the best episode of aot in my opinion. So much character development in one episode starting with Floch, who was seen as a coward and docile in previous seasons, now blooming into the second of command of the yeagerist, and nearly being victorious in destroying the ship. Then Theo Maggath one who truly hated eldians at one point in his life, to sacrificing his own life to help some eldians and the rest of the world.
Great episode! But I’m still sticking with Falco’s vision of flying with a sword being a vague and brief connection to the Paths, seeing the world from the “Island Devil’s” eyes.
When floch saw his reinforcement belown up by shadis. Remember floch face when he did that troll face when he made the military officers drain zeke's spine fluid? Hange does the troll face to floch. Karma xD
The flying around with swords killing Titans is a literal reference to him getting a glimpse of Ymir's memories. I dont see how fighting with swords and flying is connected to this scene where someone else has swords and is flying
Don't know why ppl hate floch Seems pretty badass to me Also Connie and Mikasa with some beautiful kill streaks Falco titan transformation was very very cool Great ep
So, I know I'm late to the party, but I just rewatched S1-2 and watched S3-4 this past month. And something I really liked about seeing the other titan shifters work with our main cast, is that they look so much more "human" than what we've seen from them before! It's especially noticeable in Annie/The Female Titan. Her face and eyes are so much more expressive than when she fought the Scouts and Levi's squad. It makes us, the viewers, see them from the same new perspective as the rebels.
@@arcbyte1264 they’ve delayed it a week and there’s speculation they’ll announce their plans in some sort of aot panel at an anime convention or something, which is on Sunday this next week. I don’t know the details but that’s generally what’s assumed
when i watched the end scene, i wasn't under the impression of annie eluding a possible civil war. i felt that she believed she couldn't kill eren, even when she asked the first time. its more of "can you kill him, because i can't".
I'm actually alarmed at the comments here. A lot of people just dislike the Alliance and want the Rumbling to succeed. And feel the "traitors" forgot what Marley did to them. Like Floch is barely there in AoT and is not even well fleshed out imo. These "traitors" went from wanting to protect Paradis and then spying on Marley in essentially a reverse of what the Warriors did to Eldia in season 1. During the time they did this they had time to see the common folk of the island/country they thought were full of devils and instead learnt that it was just full of regular people. This created a conflict in their minds which was very clearly shown in the series as it developed. To me the formation of this Alliance was a natural progression to their character arcs. It's almost as if people weren't paying attention. These "traitors" wanted to do the Rumbling to just scare the world and not to actually trample it over. Hence Armin's shock when he realises that Eren had actually released all the Titans from the walls and not just the outer walls which would have been enough to achieve their target. Seriously how does a Rumbling that decimates the entire world except Eldia in any way justifiable at all? Imo Paradis is doomed to be hated forever. With such God like powers and a history of it's gory misuse will have anyone teetering on edge. Which is why Zeke's mercy killing kind of made more sense to me despite it being very brutal. I think we are all wired to stand with Eldia since that's how our whole perspective in this series was built. But Marley didn't start anything. It was Eldia that started the conflict several years before the first AoT episode. It is good to see people understanding it as a study of perspective. No one is right or wrong in a war. They all believe they're fighting for a just cause. Still doesn't change the fact that war is wrong. What makes the story weak at this moment is that one side of the war has such inhuman capabilities as Titans who have already historically decimated civilizations that there really is no way to say "oh but Marley's fears and hatred are not justified". I mean every action of Marley and the Warriors make sense in that context. I haven't read the manga but boy do i not understand how this is going to be resolved. I mean Eldia had it coming. It's just nice to see that some of these Eldians developed the heart to care for someone beyond the walls. That's character growth after obtaining a wider perspective. Floch's death meant nothing to me although I expected some of the Scouts to die. I thought Connie will be taken out.
All titans are designed and constructed by Ymir, given the timeline of when Falco became a Titan I think Eren/Ymir designed falco’s Titan to assist the group with defeating and killing Eren
@@Rice8003 it does eren only did this so his friends could kill him and so they would ben seen as hero’s it’s the extreme but it makes sense also he had to try and kill them so it would look real
That last post-credits scene honestly fucking broke me oh my god. I always thought I'd be interested to see Annie's dad getting killed before she even gets to reunite with him. And as depressing as it sounds, I thought it would be good to see a complete 180 in her character & motivations--a dramatic shift from the Annie who makes realistic decisions based on facts, to an Annie who is overwhelmed by emotions and breaks down into the vulnerable girl she never got to be. But seeing the start of her breakdown this episode...I couldn't stop crying. Her whole drive for living/fighting has always been to see her dad, so honestly they better keep that girl on suicide watch because she could very well jump off that boat with no hesitation :(

Their plan is to come up with a plan where they can talk about their plans for not having a plan to solve their not having a plan problem. Or in short they don't have a plan.
First stop the genocide then try again with the world and use titan power as pressure card have enough time to develop paradise and then can fight for paradise as normal country with human power military Against another humans military rather than killing billions of innocent people

So is Annie still 4 or 5 years younger than everyone else, or has she aged while in the hardening. I’m only asking since everyone from season 1 looks significantly different in this season but MAPPA has seemingly kept Annie the exact same. Also the shot at 13:00 shows her to be much shorts
She looks a bit different than her previous appearances. Maybe the crystallization slowed her aging but not completely. I mean, she could hear Hitch and Armin so she wasn't at full physiological stop. Or maybe she just got severe growth defficientcy because she didn't eat or even breathe during that time.
I hate to admit this, but Floch was actually cool in this episode. He evaded a veteran scout like Hange and threw a thunder spear at the Cart Titan (one of the fastest titan shifters). He would have blown up the ship as well if it wasn't for Gabi's aimbot. As annoying as Floch is, I bet he isn't dead and will probably be back to defend Eren in some way.
Especially compared to how he was in season 3, he is a bad ass, intuitive, better in combat now , confident and staying true to his purpose (even though it’s flawed) . I was impressed and I hope he survives
I forget what a little girl Gabi is because she is so clutch. No titan power but my god after that the shot that nearly took out Eren she got the shot that saved the flying ship.

Reiner, Annie, Conny, Hange, the technicians and Magath (Pre ship blow up, doged 5 bullets point blank) should have EASILY died this episode.
Yeah can’t lie this is true, Mikasa was especially lucky considering that girl Jean killed had a clean shot at her
@@TurtleQuirk indeed. havent read the manga but im guessing they're all pivotal to the finale which is why they made them dodge 50 point blank bullets
Why didn’t they launch thunder spears at the boat from the beginning? Or the plane itself lol
Why didn't Reiner just scoop everyone up and run them to the boat? Why didn't the Jaegerists just shoot through the glass? Why did Mikasa have to go all Hollywood and pose for no reason at the explosion (out of character for her). Looks like the Jaegerists went to star wars storm trooper firing lessons haha.
@@yusikillah6175 they have insane plot armor even when they will fight eren
Mikasa brutual fighting scene was the best fighting scene. Its gave me EVERYTHING!!! The sequence, the music, cinetomgraphy. I was like bb Mikasa is back ba-by. No crying or hesitation over here. Just straight hands!
What a great episode. Some great fight scenes, loved seeing Connie go hard to protect the alliance. Mikasa is just on another level, the blood shower was insane. And Falco’s titan…wow. Birds have always been present in this show, when it’s all over I would love to see an in depth analysis on birds in AOT.
Floch?????
RIP Theo Magath, my favorite character who was introduced in Season 4. Awesome that his ending is perfect for his story, well done by the writers.
I geared up a few times in this episode, especially the ending and post credit scene.
Mans is ready to join the yeagerist lmao
(Also yes Ik it's a typo)
Thanks for this one, just watched the episode, greetings from Panama
Greetings from the uk!
I was low key rooting for floch he really grew alot, didnt expect him to be so OP when he was such weak character prior
I wouldn't say OP, neither him or his team got a single kill.
Anyone notice in the closing shot with the far view of the boat, there’s a lone white bird flying with them…🤔
This episode had the best blend of cgi and hand drawn
man you find EVERYTHING! loved the reference of Falco looking like a baby bird during his first titan before inheriting the shifter.
Falcos Titan design is actually pretty freaking incredible in my opinion. We never really see a Titan appear with a "mask" of sorts unless we want to count the War Hammer Titan, so seeing this was dope as hell
Should’ve merged the outer jaw with the pure titan jaw so it functionally makes sense but still looks cool either way.
Porcos Jaw literally had a bone mask
You have a gift. Another amazing review with great insight and analysis!
At 11:48, noticed how Annie, Bertholt, and Marcel were missing from the image. They should've been there, but it could've just been an oversight.
To be fair, none of them have been in Marley during the last four years so maybe Magath never got to know them well.
@@Gusanoman Thought of that, but he would have gotten to know them at least as well as Falco and Gabi, seeing as they were the same age when they left for the island. Plus Annie was back when the scene happened, so he should've remembered he made her go through the same ordeal as the others, but yeah he was probably more focused on the ones he'd been with for the last 4 years.
you're telling me that no solider ever thought of sending 1, ONE THUNDER SPEAR at the boat, anyway Falco's titan and Magath's sacrifice were executed perfectly
If distracted they could have died at any moment, but yeah…
I don’t get it? Let’s say they did send one, then we are going to get a scene of the alliance intercepting it some how. Don’t overthink things.
LOL Gabi has immaculate aim. Floch evaded the Jaw titan, Hange, the cart titan twice! Just for Gabi to shoot him mid flight! Amazing breakdown and amazing episode 👏🏾
Was waiting for this cause this episode was FIRE
I just think it was a waist. Saying they should be able to talk with the world without killing. They couldn't even do with their own people. And killed hundreds of people. So when this is over, how will they be welcomed back home ?🤔
It's unfortunatelly a real consequnace of war. Not all Soldiers can return to society. It happend after both world wars. Apocalypse now ponders this question for a bit as well
There will be no home at Paradis. The worlds hatred of them is too powerful and they will eventually eradicate them since they no longer have any protection
Outstanding episode!! Falco's Jaw has to be the best titan desing
I was rooting for every single character this episode, Floch, Mikasa, Falco

I feel like Levy got the Hulk treatment. Nerf or in this case sideline one of the strongest character.
This episode has cemented Falco's Jaw Titan as my favorite Titan form of all time. The animators did an amazing job!
Great episode! But I’m still sticking with Falco’s vision of flying with a sword being a vague and brief connection to the Paths, seeing the world from the “Island Devil’s” eyes.
11:46 Bertholdorotldl, Annie and Marcel are missing
When floch saw his reinforcement belown up by shadis. Remember floch face when he did that troll face when he made the military officers drain zeke's spine fluid? Hange does the troll face to floch. Karma xD
Floch and Eren are the only ones who stayed loyal to Eldia.
Everyone else just erased all memories of years of torture by Marley
everyone is idiot, and not just eren and floch but the whole yeagerist group
*Eldia
They quickly forget that the whole Island would be dead if Eren didn't take action. Would they talk out their problems then?
eren don’t care about eldia he cares about his friends i never ever heard eren saying anything about bringing the eldia empire back
@@baebaesmith6849 yep that’s what Floch and people of paradis wanted
The flying around with swords killing Titans is a literal reference to him getting a glimpse of Ymir's memories. I dont see how fighting with swords and flying is connected to this scene where someone else has swords and is flying
Don't know why ppl hate floch
Seems pretty badass to me
Also Connie and Mikasa with some beautiful kill streaks
Falco titan transformation was very very cool
Great ep
They don’t like him since he is a bad person for what he has dine basically killing anyone who disagrees with him
@@IeatcheeseLBB we literally watched the alliance kill a whole army of people that didn't agree with them? That reasoning is flawed
Eh, he's a good character but his fanbase kinda sours him for me, they're kinda cringe most of the time.
Connie: I must make my friends death matter by making sure i kill more friends LOL
😂😂
That episode was brutal, killing so many of their own to save the enemy
At least we finally get to see a different titan now kinda sucks of the lack of founding titan
This episode truly showed that WIT Studio are not the only ones who can make SICK 3DM-Gear fight-scenes!
mappa looks like 10 fps copy of wit
It will NEVER be explained how he, the holder of the jaw titan, got memories from a previous BEAST TITAN when he doesn't have that titan
@Ipsita Chatteejee yes it did!
He drank his spinal fluid turned into a Ab normal And attacked jaw(porco)

Floch’s finally charge towards the ship gave Kenny & his MPs chasing down Levi vibes. 20/10 episode 🔥🔥🔥
Always excited for the breakdown to see what I missed
when i watched the end scene, i wasn't under the impression of annie eluding a possible civil war. i felt that she believed she couldn't kill eren, even when she asked the first time. its more of "can you kill him, because i can't".

The part where Jean shoots the woman and mentions hesitation references the time in season 3 vs Kenny Squad where he hesitated to shoot a woman
All u typed is trash ....activate the Rumbling to scare the world? Lol
Yeah u r trash eren wants to save his ppl that's all stop bringing character screen time u justify they all are just people i want rumbling to succeed
Thank you for another amazing breakdown
The animation for this episode was absolutely top tier. Props to Mappa
Tbh I think that falco talking about flying above titans with a sword was more related to Paradis rather than to a bird titan.
All titans are designed and constructed by Ymir, given the timeline of when Falco became a Titan I think Eren/Ymir designed falco’s Titan to assist the group with defeating and killing Eren
That my friend makes perfectly no sense
That doesn't even make sense
Wait... How does it not make sense?
That’s what I thought too. He wanted them to beat him
@@Rice8003 it does eren only did this so his friends could kill him and so they would ben seen as hero’s it’s the extreme but it makes sense also he had to try and kill them so it would look real
I have any Idea for a vid you Should make a showcase of how every important Character died and how they would effect the main timeline of aot.
Her whole drive for living/fighting has always been to see her dad, so honestly they better keep that girl on suicide watch because she could very well jump off that boat with no hesitation :(
I had a damn dream about the new episode bc my brain knew I missed watching it yesterday night. I woke up after someone in my dream mentioned the jaw titan and the first thing I did when I woke up was to watch the new episode

Ngl, Floch was right when he said the world would take revenge when they stop the Rumbling. Not saying they shouldn't stop it, but, he's right.
She didn't age while hardened
@@Realletsplaygrey but does that mean the curse of Ymir didn’t age as well or not? So could Annie live longer than Reiner?

I hate to admit this, but Floch was actually cool in this episode. He evaded a veteran scout like Hange and threw a thunder spear at the Cart Titan (one of the fastest titan shifters). He would have blown up the ship as well if it wasn't for Gabi's aimbot. As annoying as Floch is, I bet he isn't dead and will probably be back to defend Eren in some way.
Especially compared to how he was in season 3, he is a bad ass, intuitive, better in combat now , confident and staying true to his purpose (even though it’s flawed) . I was impressed and I hope he survives
Floch's character development is incredible.
