  • After installing new Ram my computer took me back to an old setting and caused my mouse and keyboard to become unresponsive in Bios and at any time before the Windows Boot Screen. A PS/2 Mouse was the answer to this for me.

    You're the man! I installed Win 10 Pro, but couldn't get through the setup because my USB board and mouse would not respond, however, they worked fine in the BIOS. Luckily, I had an old PS2 keyboard and mouse in storage. Plugged them in and they worked fine. After Windows setup, I ran Windows updates. There were about a million of them, bit no luck with my USB ports. Afterward, I went into the device manager and updated my USB drivers (via auto-detect). Instantly the board and mouse were detected and installed. Now they are working just fine.

    Strange for me is that I can get into bios using a USB keyboard but after that it doesn't recognize the mouse after it enters bios. I just built the PC and it worked enough for me to enable XMP for the memory but every time after that the mouse isn't able to be moved in bios.

    • @DIYNorth

      Can you just use the TAB key to navigate around the Bios once you are in there? Or does it also stop functioning once you are in the Bios? If the keyboard and mouse are in different USBs it could be that the keyboard is in the primary USB that is supposed to function at all times.

      @@DIYNorth No that doesn't work either, I just ordered a PS/2 mouse for 10 bucks. It's strange since it worked when I booted into bios to enable xmp so the ram would run at 3400 mhz. But I had a system restart and I wanted to change it back but can't since suddenly neither the mouse or keyboard work once in bios, I hit the del key to get into it and it worked to do that.

Is there anyway of fixing this? Clear cmos doesnt seem to work either... Should i contact the pc part company to get another motherboard?

    • @DIYNorth

      Im not really sure what the issue would be, but generally speaking most of my issues are software related.
      When I have a serious issue with a computer I usually strip it down to the basics and bread board the MOBO.
      So no GPU, hard drive, other SATA connections, and just one stick of RAM.
      Just the essentials to turn the board on and get into BIOS. Then start from there, and set the BIOS up, perhaps install a new Driver if needed.
      Once the BIOS is set, add the GPU, see if it still works. Put in all the RAM, see if it still works. Eventually install the hard drive. You might just need to set your boot order for the hard drives.
      All that said most new MOBOs also have some lights to indicate what is going wrong with the computer.

      The mother board in the video is old, but they are still on my z490 and they still sell those. The ASUS ROG Maximus Z690 Apex also has them. Some people want them because they apparently have less latency than USB. If there is no PS/2 input on your motherboard you can try to plug the keyboard or mouse into the primary USB port on the motherboard (often the top left port on the motherboard). Or you can try a different wired mouse and or keyboard to see if that fixes your issue. If that doesn't work you can clear the CMOS and see if that fixes it.

      My apologies but update to this. I would press the Delete key while trying to enter BIOS on startup but I guess I wasn’t pressing it quick enough. This is what made me think the USB ports were not working. I have discovered it is working, but now my pc won’t actually load into the BIOS. It sits at the first “American Megatrends” screen saying “entering setup”. It just sits there though and never goes into BIOS.

    • @DIYNorth
      @DIYNorth  Год назад +1

      Is the whole PC together? Normally if I have issues once everything is set up I might go back to a breadboard status on the mother board. So just the Motherboard, CPU, PSU and Ram are connected (no hard drive or other things). That should allow it to just boot into the BIOS and then if there is something to adjust you can make changes. That will also tell you that those 4 items are good. I'm not sure if you have integrated graphics with your CPU.

    I recently had this same issue of not being able to use my mouse and keyboard in bios. I discovered that they WOULD WORK when I switched my MSI motherboard to the secondary bios. Reflashing the first bios fixed the mouse and keyboard issue. Might consider trying that if you don't want to keep using an adapter which I see as a workaround solution rather than a fix. I have no idea what caused the issue in the first place, but flashing the bios fixed it for me.
