Hello Wade! I always learn a lot from your videos, thank you so much for making them. I have one dendrochilum magnum, and would love to have another soon, would really love a bicallosum😊 A couple of questions please: 1) My magnum needs to be divided as well. If I separate the backbulbs as you've shown, how often do they need to be watered and fertilized? Would it be the same as the other divisions with active growth? 2) Is there a worry that having the roots surrounded by sphagnum stay too moist at the center of the root ball? I'm sorry for the questions, this will be my first time dividing and repotting this plant. Thank you so much😊
Hmmm - may try a couple of these if I can find some of those that have the larger individual blooms? Any suggestions (as you know, I grow 'intermediate'). Great video - your gonna have a lot of folks after those you split!
Roger Frampton D. magnum is the largest - both in flower size and plant size but don't discount the others. There are many that are worthwhile. Intermediate suits them fine.
Roger's Orchids Yes and that's why I quit gardening clubs. There'd be a plant swap and all these people come with ditch lilies, lily of the valley, mint, lazy susan... all the invasive junk they're fighting. My stuff would all be gone in 5 min from the start. 🙄
Hi Wade I see you made this video 4 years ago, but I need to ask you about fertilisation for Dendrochillum are they heavy feeders or should I scale down with feedings. Thanks
There have been several requests for these divisions and truthfully it gets really crazy trying to get everything straight so I unfortunately have to say to look for them to be listed. I really don't like to sell plants that are not established so it won't be until at least early summer.
I use Kiwi Bark. The bark from the same tree as Orchiata but processed in a different way. It remains consistent in ph and favors beneficial bacteria which aid the roots. It also has a very long life.
I have just become interested in this genus a few months ago with a couple I purchased from Andy's. I think they are intriguing. One question....can they be mounted...your opinion.
hi i have been given a Dendrochilum filiforme and have never had one before and not sure what to do to look after it.... i read from an orchid society that they love to be very moist and sphagnum moss is good mix for them
They do like to be kept moist, but I usually don't pot in straight sphagnum. I take my Cattleya mix (bark & perlite) and cut sphagnum moss into small pieces (about 1") to add to it. Once you become familiar with this method you will find you can fine tune it by using more or less moss. I think if you treat it like an Oncidium you'll do well with it. Good luck!!
You put this up just as my dendrochilum is almost done with its blooms. Thank you, Wade. I love all of your videos. They are most helpful.
Another information-packed video and what a magnificent plant! Thank you.
Great tutorial Wade. It will be very beneficial when I incorporate different orchids within my garden. Thanks for sharing and happy growing 🌱
I would love to have one of the first one you showed. Put one back for me in the Spring. This is Sherry Walker and thanks for the bark!
Good video, Wade. Thank you for sharing your knowledge. I now feel confident to repot my Dendrochilum luzonense. Valerie
Thanks Wade, I still learn a lot from you.
"Dendrochilums" sounds like an awesome veggie Dendrobiums grow in an occasional break from growing flowers

Hello Wade, could you make a video on how you handle fertilizing and flushing your huge collection? :)
Sounds like a good idea!
Great video, Wade! What brand of bark do you use for your orchids ?

David Mayo they can be mounted if you can keep them moist. Actually, some of the smaller ones do really well when mounted.
