Another amazing review. I've always wondered why Rage and now G5 don't suck the back of those blades closer to the feral to get that broadhead more compact in flight like the old Rocky Mountain Snyper. I actually use to not use the shock collars on Rage and use a rubber band because I could get it a lot more compact.
Yeah, there’s a lot of good strength to this head. The typical rage model heads do not do well in the steel plate. But there are others that cut right through it like butter. Sevr and Beast for example
Dudley was at the factory. Tested to between 4-5 pounds to open blades first time. They showed more opening and average was 3-4 pounds needed on subsequent shots. Supposedly reliable for dozens of shots???
Great review. Curious if you saw the born and raised outdoors guy’s broadhead test through elk shoulders? Not as consistent a testing medium, but still interesting to watch.
is it possible to do some test with a lower poundage setup like 60#? I am curious as to how many of these mechanicals fair at a lower poundage. Great review as always.
Thanks. The point of the testing is to show how broadheads compare to one another under the same stresses and strains and conditions. I shoot them at 67# and 27” draw, so they would not be far off of yours if you have a longer draw than me. But the draw weights really don’t matter in the testing, since they all endure the same.
@@LuskArcheryAdventures that makes complete sense. I think I was looking at it more towards a penetration/deployment test and how it does at lower draw weight, but now I completely understand where you are coming from by keeping the same standard setup across the board.
Awesome review!! Curious to see if the b3 rd2 does better ?? Only thing I wish is that the rd2 had a little longer tip as it looks like deflection could be an issue. Its not bad, just not great either. Your sample was a lot sharper than what i have seen others coming in. The blades breaking on steel isnt great. I will say at least they made it that far though. We have seen many fail in the MDF. I still think Sevr 2.0 is the best available if you want a rear deploy 2 blade 2".
What's wrong with breaking on steel? Are you hunting steel plates? Those tests are just to show how some heads are even more durable. These will be more-than-good-enough on deer.
Well, because there are mechs that can hold up to the steel plate extremely well. And if I have a choice between two heads where one has strong enough blades to hold up to multiple shots through steel, and the other breaks on the first shot, all other things equal, I know which hand I’m hunting with.

I watched another video yesterday where it took a T2 out of the package 350 grams of force to cut through the wire. Wonder what happened with that one?
The only way around the blades breaking on a lot of these broadheads, esp mechanicals is they need to go with a titanium ferrule and thicker blades. Like a Rage Trypan
Well the Trypan has never done well thru steel. And the ferrules are plenty strong on many of them. But the thickness of the blades and blade retention system makes a huge difference. Evolution Hydes, Sevrs, and Beasts have always done well thru steel for those reasons.
I agree I’m not saying the Trypan is a great broadhead, I actually don’t use them anymore, but the only way I see possible to get the blades thicker is to go with a lighter yet stronger ferrule such titanium. I was actually super impressed with your test on the Evolution Hyde and just bought a six pack. Can’t wait to try them
Thanks for what you do! A little disappointing considering it is similar in design to other heads. They should have did a side-by-side test to ensure robustness before releasing.
It would be nice to see g5 come out with some single bevel heads ive always loved the montecs but love the videos as i always do glad to see you recovering god bless you brother
Yep. A lot of companies are. But to be honest, a three blade head will cut a lot more tissue than a two blade head, even with a single bevel. But for a very large animals, a two blade head will penetrate more deeply, typically.

Yeah, there was a slight bit of wobble. But like I say many times when people bring that up, I could not see that with a naked eye. But the camera is zoomed way in and then I expand that when I am editing. So you are looking at probably 10 times closer than the naked eye.
Not a fan of these just due to the force to open the blade. I know with my rage NC I never shot them at anything but a target just because I don't like the idea of losing that much force before it even really gets beyond the hide.
