    I had some experience in creating STLs using free software online and elsewhere, and for the longest time that suited my needs. When I needed to create something with complex curves I was out of luck, since either the Boolean or Filleting wouldn't do what I wanted. When I started viewing your tutorials I knew there was a large learning curve ahead. I downloaded Plasticity and started modelling but was unable to get the results that I wanted, but kept on trying, while I rewatched your videos. They were a big help. While I'm still a noob, I'm starting to create some amazing models. Your positivity and excitement in this software is evident and it encourages me to go further. Thank you. Perhaps you can do a future video on bad geometry, failures of patch and lofting and ways to repair problems.

      check out the full helmet course. I explain also the whole theory & fundamentals of surface modeling and you have huge amount of bonus practice lessons that we go through so you learn how to correctly join surfaces.

    I love how excited you get 😂 but you’re right, it really is exciting. I don’t have a good PC yet, so I’m stuck with Fusion on my laptop. But I really can’t wait to upgrade, get Plasticity, and start getting as excited as you over how great and intuitive this program is! Great videos, really enjoy watching you get the most out of Plasticity!

      Awesome to hear I could enlighten your excitement :D
      If you can run Fusion on your laptop than you can do it with Plasticity too. It's not that resource hungry.

      @@nikita.kapustin ok, I don't realise that. I just don't want to invest in plasticity and then find out I don't have the resources to run it. But I might have to look into the minimum recommended requirements. I just thought that if I didn't have a dedicated video card my laptop would struggle.

    So I've tried soooo many times to get non-overlapping faces when lofting the mouth guard and the "sideburn" looking piece, but it *always* overlaps at the very top of where they both meet (and cutting the top edge of the mouthguard doesn't help rectify it all either). I swear I've tried following your exact steps, and ensuring that I'm picking the vertices in the right order so that the corresponding Start and End points have the same G0/G1/G2 tangency that you use (and I've even tried other various G1/G2 and tension-adjustment combinations you *didn't* use, just in case) to try and keep the vertical planes separated, but all to no avail :( I really wanted to nail this "simple" helmet before going on to do your full paid helmet course (I've already bought it, cos your tutorials are awesome!), but this one has beaten me, I think :P I'll probably post for advice in the groupchat, but just wanted to let other struggling people know that they're not alone!
    EDIT: ok, I *finally* managed to get it to work, and with filletable edges. Weirdly though, it wouldn't let me just loft between the sheet edges at the "sideburn" and "jawline" like Nikita did, and always just failed regardless of my choosing G0/G1/G2. What worked though, was selecting those same 2 edges, hitting Shift+D to create a new curve, then Alt+J to split it into 2 curves (that both still met at the top, where the sideburn meets the jawline), and THEN lofting between those curves. This allowed me to use G0, and when I joined that new little sheet to the larger helmet sheet, it finally, blissfully, allowed me to actually chamfer the edge. Hallelujah! Praise jeebus!

      Same here. So far, learning Plasticity is very painful. Seemingly small changes determine whether you will be able to create a patch or a fillet.

    Nikita, what’s the diff btw this cool vid and your paid-gumroad MotoX Helmet vid series? we’re leaning towards the latter. b/c we are on a mission from God to model a Gorski 3000SS hard hat dive helmet 🇵🇱

      Hey Ken,
      That's an incredible mission you're on, designing a Gorski 3000SS hard hat dive helmet! Love the combination of hard & smooth surfaces.
      While the RUclips tutorial serves as a basic introduction to helmet design, my paid Gumroad course is a comprehensive deep dive. Not only does it cover advanced techniques and workflows, but it also includes a bonus section devoted entirely to the fundamentals and theory behind CAD surface modeling.
      This course is your ticket to mastering the complexities you'll encounter in projects like your Gorski 3000SS. If you're serious about your project, I highly recommend taking the leap with the full course.

    I don't believe I seen you adjust the material opacity of your extrude at the 7:30 mark, but the it was already transparent. How did you do that?

    • @overseastom
      @overseastom 9 месяцев назад

      It's not the material of the extruded surface you're seeing, but rather the properties of the blueprints behind it! If you select your blueprint and hit M, then select "front" for the Depth field, you'll notice the blueprint always becomes visible through geometry :)

    As a Surface modelling newbie I personally would benefit with a slower paced tutorial, probably with a more basic model to do to start and then progress to something like this example.
