James is probably so desensitized to death, if someone gets shot in front of him, he's just gonna be like, "I'll give that the dull machete. Who likes gun kills?"
The casting of a black actor to play Ben was not planned out. He simply was the best actor who auditioned. But because of that happy accident, it gave the movie a whole other level of commentary. The Cooper's distrust of Ben for seemingly no reason would have been a plot hole if Ben had been white, but with a black actor, the reason they don't trust him is immediately understood by the audience without having to be stated. Because they are unconsciously racist. This one little aspect of the casting has had far-reaching affects on the horror genre and film as a whole that is still felt today.
I dunno, zombie apocalypse happens I don't trust anyone. Sure for the film it looks like that's the reason, but distrusting a white person would have worked.

@@ejprojects1748 Except this was released in 1968, 8 years after Psycho which Hitchcock chose to make in black and white because it was cheaper, not because colour didn't exist. This movie is most likely black and white because George A. Romero wanted to save money. I mean, The Wizard of Oz is in colour and it was released in 1939.
Ah, but it was partly intended that way I suppose. Seeing another human being chewing down on someone is more unsettling than a rotting the corpse. It's easy to separate the corpse from the person it was, not so easy when they aren't so obvious.
No disrespect to James at all because this is still a great video, but I'm so glad he remade this 😂😂 Mainly because this is 2017 James who wasn't 100 % himself on camera yet and didn't have nearly as much background info added into the kill counts! She was graces and laughed happily as I told her I had a huge crush on her when I was like 8 years old. Got a pic with her and everything. Tom Savini was there as well and was nice enough but I got the feeling he did not want to be there.
It kinda annoys me how Barbara is always called 'useless'. And while she is, technically, I think people easily forget that she's in shock. The dead are walking the earth, her brother died in front of her (trying to save her no less, also they parted with her calling him ignorant so she might feel a bit guilty, too. Also, for a while, she believed he was alive and that she just left him out there to die before Ben literally smacks some sense into her), no help is guaranteed to arrive, she's found a partially eaten body; so not only are the dead walking, they're also eating people, and did I mention that dead people are walking? I like that she's portrayed as being in shock throughout the film, only really jumping to action when Helen is about to be grabbed by the zombies busting into the house and when her own life is in danger. Honestly, it's how a lot of people would react, were this situation ever to actually happen. Most of us would just be too scared to really move.

Good video!! ! was 5 years old when this movie came out in 1968, but did not finally see it until sometime in the 1980s. Anyway, when this movie was out in 1968, I remember people saying that they would have nightmares because of this movie, for being torn apart/being eaten alive by zombies was never heard of nor shown on the big screen before.
Damn, I didn't get to see the original video before you re-filmed so I have no idea what you changed. Something about the zombies in this movie REALLY unsettled me even though they look really fake, but it makes me want to watch more really old horror movies.
RabuHina And she does in the 90s remake. It's not a bad film, plays with the audience's expectations and the make up is top notch. The autopsy zombie, for example.
She also wasn’t supposed to be so useless, but the actress took it in that direction and Romero liked her comatose take on the character. But in hindsight, not so much
Tbh in a way barbara brings out suspense mainly when she reacts to fire like she did i honestly thought for half the movie that she got bit and that she was gonna turn although it was obvious his daughter got bit and was going to turn and it was only time before she does
So thankful that I was exposed to horror movie culture as a youngling, without it I could never ever enjoy what some people call dated films They are classics for a reason
At 7:40 when James talks about how his mom told him that Tom & Judy were like fried chicken for the zombies, I immediately got an ad for Tyson chicken. Freaking amazing.
It's sad how little views this video got just because it's a black-and-white film. Most people don't care that this is one of the greatest horror films of all time and the one that singlehandedly created the entire zombie genre. It's old so it's not worth their time. Says a lot about today's society.
"Eh I only enjoy classics, excuse me, please make way for my high horse and I because I don't like the new age peasant trash. God society is garbage because they don't like what I like." Save your fucking breathe. Being remembered doesn't make it one of the greatest, and on top of it this movie didn't single handedly create the zombie genre, zombies had existed long before in fiction, all George Romero was revised the legend a bit making it what we have today. The only person whining about black and white movies is you because you got some bullshit bone to pick with the world you punk ass pussy.

one of the advantages of the black and white camera is that its image is based on the colour saturation which allowed them to use chocolate sauce as a fake blood(the zombie girl eating the father scene).

~ Barbra (played by Patricia Tallman in her own 1990 remake)
"Brains!" Is Return of the Living Dead
Wait at 3:38 is that barbaras real hair and showing she has a wig or she has some weird hairline
You have a very good eye! I glanced and thought "Oh, that's a hairband or something." but I read your comment and looked again, and saw you were correct with the slipped wig xD
It’s a wig
Wigs were in back then, maybe Babs was just fashionable.
Actually I found out that, that was a fashionable hairstyle in those days and I watched the movie and her hair was like that the whole movie
*laughs in Obesity* she put her hair in a ponytail and has a head band
Do the sequel Dawn of The Dead (1978) it’s a classic 🤟❤️
After return of the living dead ^^ or after dawn, either way we have interest.
@@0626anime indeed, but the *Dawn of the Dead* with Ving Rhames and Ty Burrell is what truly takes the cake
DeadMeat you are the BEST. I honestly find these kill count video's MORE entertaining than watching the actual movies.
That line at 8:12 shows up in the Creature Feature song Aim For The Head. I think it uses more clips from this movie, actually. Pretty neat, in my opinion.
"cold ass Luigi death stare"
The exact face I make when one of the nasty girls at my school approach my table.

Project Javelin OKAY I LOVE THIS
"My name is Connor, I'm the Android sent by Cyberlife."
Connor, the Android sent by Cyberlife.
9:20 is it just me or does Helen kinda sound like a whale 🐋
big weeny Dang, she kinda does.
I never knew I needed this
Good video!! ! was 5 years old when this movie came out in 1968, but did not finally see it until sometime in the 1980s.
Interesting fact: Barbara was suppose to survive the whole ordeal
RabuHina good she didn't she was fuckin useless
RabuHina And she does in the 90s remake. It's not a bad film, plays with the audience's expectations and the make up is top notch. The autopsy zombie, for example.
RabuHina so she was supposed to be the Sydney Prescott of this movie..
😉😉
She also wasn’t supposed to be so useless, but the actress took it in that direction and Romero liked her comatose take on the character. But in hindsight, not so much
Tbh in a way barbara brings out suspense mainly when she reacts to fire like she did i honestly thought for half the movie that she got bit and that she was gonna turn although it was obvious his daughter got bit and was going to turn and it was only time before she does
So thankful that I was exposed to horror movie culture as a youngling, without it I could never ever enjoy what some people call dated films
They are classics for a reason
At 7:40 when James talks about how his mom told him that Tom & Judy were like fried chicken for the zombies, I immediately got an ad for Tyson chicken. Freaking amazing.
Hmmmm...
A Black Guy Saving A Group Of White People...
...Telltale's The Walking Dead Anybody?
@burnt chicken nugget ok.
Oh yeeeeaaaaahh!
LEE!!!!!!!!!
Oof.
What did burnt chicken nugget say?
They never used the word zombie in this movie
Noah the Sharp It wasn't a word then lol
Very true! They were the "undead"!
Do films ever use the word 'zombie'?
walking dead series never use it either...for 9 seasons...
@@azhimahmad5652 or even other storylines!
God society is garbage because they don't like what I like."
Save your fucking breathe.
@@hunterkai6772 Achieved nothing except kicking someone down a notch. It's one thing to think a old movie, or in most cases song, is great. But waving around the fact that you like it as if it makes you better than everyone else who likes newer stuff just leaves you asking to get your kicked in the ass. Only asshole here is the guy who thinks he's oh so special because ye likes Night of the Living Dead. Go white knight somewhere you may actually have a chance; you're just fighting a losing battle here.
get your kicked in the ass
@@TheMento98 You're def coming off as a bigger asshole than the original comment lol
you didnt have to insult him,you couldve brought your point like a civilized person,
Oh wow! I never watched this movie, but I immediately recognized the news anchor's voice and lines from the Creature Feature song "Aim for the head", it's so cool to finally learn where that bit was from! :D
4:41
*It was at that moment he knew, he **_f*cked_** up*
I didnt even notice the black bars on the side for a while, thats how good this film is
At 5:21 the Zombies are like All we wanna do is Eat your Brain like the Song Re your brain from Jonathan Coulton.
Thanks James for not taking this down and instead archiving it :)
Do, Final Destination 1-5?

Stopping Currysexual Fans Since 2017 Yeah remember when that dog and that duck killed the monkey (only smash bros fans will get this)
the tombstone johnny dies on has Myers on it.
DerpsterDerp coincidence
I don’t think that’s a coincidence I think they got the idea from that🤔
Imagine...🤔✌️
Well Halloween was created in 1978 and this was made in 1968
Soooo yeah it's just a coincidence if your referencing the movie Halloween if not then ignore this
It s been 50 years now....
Are u 70?
@@KingJames-nb9jl are you 1 year late commenting this lad
Farrel 1 well, Eat Shit and live
one of the advantages of the black and white camera is that its image is based on the colour saturation which allowed them to use chocolate sauce as a fake blood(the zombie girl eating the father scene).
Pov: U are here after before the remake is out
"She just gotta have her pops" yo that was epic.
I'm sad, James never continued the living dead series. We need a Dawn of the Dead 1978 kill count!
James HAS to do Dawn. He HAS to.
I just wish the remake hadn't had running zombies. And I wish that the people who remade 'Day of the Dead' knew that zombies couldn't cling upside down to ceilings and dodge bullets like in the Matrix...
Well turns out you’re in luck, buddy!
@@jamesbames4888 wait is he doing it?
@@IanTheGreatYT yeah, he confirmed it during the spring 2021 schedule
Crazy to hear how much more subdued James was in these early episodes. He's really come into his own with this series. Fuckin love it
Do final destination series
This is my favorite video of yours. I have watched many 'Kill Count' videos, trust me. I do like your dedication and delivery in this. I could tell you made this shortly after Romero's passing.
Keep up the great stuff.
Cheers!
whos here after this is getting remaked
Petition for James to do a episode on Dawn of the Dead (1978) and Day of the Dead (1985)
WE BACK HERE CAUSE HE REDOING THIS ON FRIDAY WOOOOO
James is speaking at light speed Jesus Christ
@Miguel Messina I wouldn’t say he sucked but he’s definitely improved and has learned to take his time and slowly go through the films allowing us to enjoy every moment of his hilarious and witty commentary
I'd love to see more movies with black heroes, without the stereotype trash. Like Ben, he's the best in this classic.
Ben is great because he plays a good character who happens to be black. Modern writing could learn a great deal from that.
TopsyTriceratops introducing Jason X
But the hero in that was black and he died
Sorry spoiler alett
A FUCKING SPACE MARINE!
Why not?
In the recount: "The Coolest Corpse for favorite zombie will go to Cemetery Zombie."
You should do zombieland
Kristian V I love zombieland but it's not really a horror more of a comedy
Jackson3547 true
I loved that movie! But I agree with Jackson3547 though
Kristian V Only like 2 people die in that movie anyway.
What if he counts all the zombies lol
Unlisted video feel like a pirate finding treasure
Night of the living Dead meat
Diego Marin 😄👍🏻
Wow good one
Diego Marin
You beat me to it
Didn't see thins until around 2000 and was shocked how much I loved it.
that's a phrase you don't ever want to hear
" it all began with a trip to the cemetary "
7:39 Why the hell was your mother letting you watch this at six years old?!
Put the speed on 0.75 to emulate 2021 James.
Love this film. It was my second zombie film that I saw. The first was Scooby-Doo on Zombie Island. My favorite kill was Harry.
Can't wait till this is your full time job
KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK you have my like.
Can't wait till the remaster of this kill count
The Corn Pops reference at 9:01 🤣🤣🤣
My great grandpa was one of the featured hunters, he also close friends with "Chilly Billy" who was a real radio dj in Pittsburgh in the 60's.
I love how RUclips shows an ad to try to get you to buy this movie when everybody knows it’s in the public domain and you can watch it for free, even on RUclips.
I think Jaws is considered a horror/thriller movie so you should do kill count for Jaws if you consider it horror
Tyler H I think he's said he wants to do it in the future! I'd love to see that Kill Count too 😊
I wonder if he'll count jaws, considering in the past he doesn't count animal kills. But then again I've never watched jaws so idk if he dies or not
He cant dO ItS Owned By Universel Studio's Which we'll just copyright claim it and he wont making any revnue from it
People make fun of Barb for being useless, but shes pretty clearly disassociating after watching her brother get murdered followed by being assaulted by a living dead man.
