  • My girlfriend said she wanted a longboard that was cute and something that she could noseride on. I think I nailed both of those criteria. This was the first surfboard I got to shape and glass so it was a lot of learning on the go. I started out by purchasing a 9'6" blank and shaped a classic noserider down to 9'2". I wasn't sure how the foam would shape but the planer did the trick for me. Once the board was shaped and the rails were thinned out, I glassed the board using the vacuum bag method. This was able to save weight and ensure good adhesion of the fiberglass to the foam. The hardest part for me was hot coating because it seemed to add a lot more weight than I anticipated, even after a good sanding.
If I were to shape this same shape again, here is what I would do differently:
    1. Think the whole board out. I tried to keep a lot of foam in the middle to add flotation but it wasn't really needed since it was for a female who is a lot smaller than me
    2. Foil the rails a little more. I tried to have 50/50 rails throughout the entire board but it doesn't grip the wave as much as I would like
    3. Take a little less out of the nose concave. I have seen classic noseriders with a big scoop in the nose but when I tried to do this the water really got caught up and slowed the board down.
Have you ever wanted to shape a surfboard before?
This surfboard taught me that it is best to be patient, pay close attention to detail, and you can surf pretty much anything!
How do you think this board came out? Where would you take it out to surf?

you vacume bagged the glass on and it was your first time fiberglassing? impressive. the bleeder tube /material helps equalize the pressure through out when vac bagging, and i dont see it in the bag.

I’ve seen it done plenty of times in the shop so I understood the process, I’ve just never done it myself before this
