@@grvzivnv8712 Leafs traded him to get a first round pick in the 2020 draft.....because they traded their own pick to unload Patrick Marleau's contract hahahahaha
"Pittsburgh your time to win is now" it's so satisfying to watch this video after the Penguins are the first team to repeat in the salary cap era and Kessel was a huge part of these Cup wins. Like Dangle said, it's almost like it wasn't his fault in Toronto.
Matthew Finlay Better on separate lines they both wanted to be "The guy" on the line and they didnt work good together. Having him with draisaitl or maybe on the 3rd line to make all 3 lines scoring lines would be insane.
FE4R x DEMoN What are you talking about they both wanted? They never played together, and you don’t know shit about what kind of personalities they have.
Watching this 8 years later and Kessel has his name on the cup 3 times. And I’m coming back to see if there’s any news on a Kessel Toronto signing and I come and find a young Steve Dangle with the same amount of passion as he has today. I want a Kessel retirement or a 1 year contract with the leafs. That’s all I’m asking . Also 8 years later and Kessel still has not missed a regulation game making him the longest running Ironman streak. Congrats Phil
Steve can you see into the future? You know, Crosby, Malkin and Kessel on all three separate lines. I mean, c'mon. Also edit, Kessel was on the third line!
We won the cup! We won the cup! Do Canadians even remember what the cup looks like? Ask Phil Kessel, he knows what the cup looks like. He might even bring it to Toronto so you can see it. What a nice guy that Phil Kessel is.
you know the grand irony is your actually slightly off Phil Kessel's a two-time Stanley Cup champion. and as a die-hard pens fan I have to say it was beautiful that you guys gave him to us.
Talk about a prediction. 2 years later Kessel just won his second straight cup with the Pens. The Pens time is now, and after this second one, there are talks of a third straight.
@@mrchady no, no, it fits quite perfectly. “3rd straight” had about as much of a chance as me moving to Mars in the year 2000… it was never gonna happen and anyone who thought it was is psychotic

Watching this on June 30th, 2019. The Penguins have just traded Phil. I am heartbroken, he did everything and more that the pens ever asked of him and he got shipped out for scraps. I can’t help but sympathize with Steve here.
Original Boston/Toronto trade: Toronto Acquires: Frederik Andersen, Kerby Rychel, 2nd Round Pick (From SJS, Nick Spaling), 3rd Round Pick, Kasperi Kapanen Boston Acquires: Loui Eriksson (Although lost of UFA), Jimmy Hayes, Joe Morrow, Zach Senyshyn, Jeremy Lauzon, Jacob Forbacka-Karlsson Basically, the winners of this trade are: Calgary Dallas Pittsburgh
We got all lot they gave us Kapanen and they need speed right now and Kapanen could've helped them with that. the Kessel deal helped us get Matthews and Freddie so I would consider us a winner.
Sometimes I just love to watch this video, especially after Phil just scored his 6th career hat trick, and see just how prophetic, and on the spot, you were, Steve. You said Phil was a great player, wicked wrist shot, etc, and yes, even you saying "the time is now Pittsburgh" for the 2015-2016, and thanks, in part to Phil, we went on to win two Cups, back to back. So, thanks, Steve. This video brings a HUGE SMILE to my face. Today, October 2018.
Grab a coke and smash some dogs buds 😂 Can we please bring this man back for this season? There is a lot of potential for him at a low cost this year!!!
There were 3 options on what do do with Phil: 1. Trade him for as much as you can right now 2. Risk injury or more decline in production and hope Babcock can re-raise his value 3. Keep him for the next 6 years. Phil was my favourite leaf for 5 years but even i know that it was time for him to go, best for both sides.
But his value has never been lower. He almost certainly would have had a rebound year and been more tradable when the cap increases a year from now. Plus he very rarely gets injured. He one of the most durable players in the league.
***** well thats the best they could do so its time to accept it and move on. keep in mind they only had 8 teams they could even negotiate with because of his no trade clause and all the teams he had on it were cap teams so it made making a deal that much harder.
Someone has a crystal ball. 4 years in Pittsburgh. Kessell wins two Stanley Cups, and should have won the Conn Smythe in ‘15. Didn’t miss a game. 59, 70, 92 and 82 points. Ouch.

Another failure by the Oilers organization. If Mcdavid can win them a cup, he just might be the best player alive, because that would be a miracle
