This gave me a great video idea!
I think after hundreds of episodes each character can fall under certain tropes or predictable behaviors. But their backstories are nothing but predictable. Brook being part of the crew that promised Laboon they’d return for them, was completely out of the blue. Or Sanji being an experiment. So I can agree they can be predictable. Oda is also able to be unpredictable when it comes to the main story.

Missing a few brain cells but I would say it depends. A few characters cannot be forgotten because the story makes a strong emphasize on their experience. Corazon is a great example. I’ll never forget Shirahoshi or Hody. But there’s characters like the ramen fighter in Water 7. Who, after looking it up, is named Wanze. All I remember is his annoying laugh and that he used his noodles as weapons.
