  • In this video, I remove the rear drive shaft, yoke, and pinion seal on my '94 Chevy K1500 Silverado truck. I replace the pinion seal, and I also install a new driveshaft. I will have a follow up "Part 2" where I will replace the front seal (transfer case output seal) and I will also be installing the correct driveshaft, since the one in this video is the incorrect size.

Curious……why did you change the drive shaft? Why didn’t you just change your u-joint?

Basically, the tang where the snap ring holds the u joint in place was bent so bad that I couldn't get a new snap ring to sit in the groove properly.

31:32 I explain again here why I had to get a new one. Mine was toast after I tried to get the old u joint out.

Thanks for putting the effort on this vedio. My 98 blazer will need a pinion seal changed as it'sleaking. Can this job be done without a impact wrench? Thanks.

It can. I would suggest the same socket (32mm I think) and a long breaker bar. The longer the better. If you don't have a breaker bar, you can slide a pipe over your ratchet, I use the handle from my jack for that sometimes. That's all you should need it for is the nut that holds the yoke on. Good luck!

Thanks man. I will be using a breaker bar or a pipe to loosen the bolt. Thanks for the info. 🙏
