- Sometimes, we're not at our best. That was the case for me this weekend: sick, up early in the morning, traveling in cold rainy weather. Even in these situations, as followers of Christ, there is reason for joy.

I remember going to school as a child and on the way my mother and I would talk about how I was doing. One day, I told her one of the girls in my friend group was being a bit mean to me, and my mother lovingly began to tell me the story of St. Francis and his perfect joy. I remember not understanding deeply, but I did walk into school that day with a sense of "forgive and love her again" and the day really was different. More than twenty years later I still try to live this perfect joy, and that is now one of my fondest memories of childhood.
Thank you Br. Casey. I have never heard the story of true and perfect joy before, and this. This has brought me a calm I haven’t felt in years.

True and perfect joy is what gets me through many days. One of the best parts of living Franciscan Spirituality is living with true and perfect joy--really changes one's perspective about everyday life.

many of us have days when we are not at our best, feel sickly, the weather is not ideal for our activities, and nothing seems to go wrong. My family has a saying, It's still a beautiful day for a picnic. When we say that to each other or to others we give a laugh and go on.

With the perfect joy story of St. Francis, it is a really a clever iteration of the Beatitudes. St. Francis' story is set up so that is builds to the point where the friar is falsely accused and hated. 'Blessed are you when you are persecuted' ... 'Jump for joy that day'...

Here's what I have to do is get out of bed and go to work at a job I don't like just to put food on the table and have a roof over for not only myself but also my wife and children. I don't find any fulfillment in my life rather I feel like a pack mule my only purpose is to work.
I think that is why I have a strong relationship with God because of my daily struggles and loneliness I feel. I don't have the luxury of spending allot of time with my family. That's why I have hope there is a better life for me after this world.
I hope you always treasure your time with your family. I sailed for a time. Some of the guys were out there for 9 months to a year at a time before they could see their families. A lot of them started sailing before they started dating the women who would become their wives. By the time they had families, they didn't know what else they could do for work. But they kept working so they could support their families. Pray for them!
Bro. Casey, I joy in your upcoming ordination...maybe you could come to McMinnville and be our parish priest. I pray you get better. Blessings!

St Francis was right its true if your life looked like that which he described but have the love of God in you knowing Jesus was rejected too knowing Jesus was persecuted and misunderstood too yes it's true joy ......helps me understand thank you..... joy in Gods love wooohooo😂😂😂😂✌ Jesus is our victory we are not victims to the sorrows of life !!

I wonder if Jesus got many colds and flu? The weather in Judea was good most of the time, but temperature would plummet at night, especially now. He must have gotten ill at some point in his life? He was human too after all.
Brother, how do I quit porn addiction? I've installed software on my PC, but I keep bypassing it. My willpower and faith are very low. Pray for me.
TheLHShowChannel Know that many, many men (and even women!) have this struggle. I did. What may help, from my experience: When I was busy with work, exercise, or life in general, there was hardly an urge to look at porn, and there were hardly any opportunities, either. Being active and off the computer and phone will take the opportunities away and focus your mind and body on things other than porn.
I'm going to ramble here because I'm a young man like you who struggled with that addiction and still has that tempation sometimes. The world teaches us that pornography and masturbation, among other sexual sins, are OK as long as no one gets hurt. But we have to realize, to see with our own eyes, the destruction that these sins are causing us (men), our families, our relationships with women, and therefore society itself. But you know this, obviously, because you are asking for help. So what worked for me is to realize that the struggle with tempation is truly a war for my soul. And if I'm not fighting that war with prayer and life in the sacraments, I am not fighting at all.
So how do we fight it? From my own experience: pray the Rosary, go to Confession regularly, and go to Mass "Sunday+1" meaning not only the days we're obligated, but during the week when we get a chance.
Why the Rosary? Because it truly is a spiritual weapon for this war. Our Lady gave it to St. Dominic to fight the Albigensean heresy. The Rosary--Mary's intercession--was responsible for the victory of the Holy League against the Ottomans at Lepanto in 1571. And it's responsible for spiritual victories we fight every day of our lives. There's no better example of chastity and purity than Mary and we can surely trust in her intercession for us, that the virtue of chastity may grow in us, so we can live a life free from the addiction to pornography. I could go on about it forever so I will end by saying that since I began a daily Rosary--not just 'saying it' but learning to meditate the mysteries of Jesus's life with it--my battle has been successful. However, I won't say it's 'won' yet. This is the reality of our struggle with temptation.
I mentioned regular Confession. In my experience, I'd repent and be absolved, stay away from porn for a month or so, then fall back into it. Utilizing the Sacrament of Reconciliation more frequently will give us the grace we need and help us develop the virtues that will make us holy.
Confession is a true reminder that Jesus always loves us and will always take us back 'to the flock' after we remove ourseleves from it by sinning.
Do not despair! See that this struggle is truly a war and fight it accordingly. Many Catholic men fight it. I will keep you in my prayers!
