The best camo is learning to break up your outline and learning to SIT STILL!! I used all types of camo suits for many years and found that none of it works well unless you learn to blend into your background and SIT STILL!! Don't fidget and don't swat at gnats and mosquitoes. SIT STILL! Move nothing but your eyes. And the most important aspect to learn about camo is SIT STILL. Don't move. If you master that the rest will work itself out.
I wholeheartedly agree. I've been an avid birder since the 80's. I've learned that camo can conceal you from people, but wildlife don't care too much as long as you stop moving. Even raising your binocular to your eyes is moving...enough to spook any animal regardless if you look like a shrubbery or not. I avoid wearing yellows and reds because experience has taught me that bees and wasps perceive me as a bank of flowers to be investigated. Besides that I just sit still and allow bobcats, coyotes, birds to come close. Very close. Sneezing is right out.
You left out the job of cleaning the ghillie vs. camo suit...🤣 It takes me an hour to remove all the weeds, seeds and other stuff that sticks to it. So I got tired of cleaning, and I haven't used it for a few years now. Now I use a 3d camo suit. Greetings👍.
Hey! I can't really find any advice on this, but do you also use a ghillie suit or 3D camo to disguise yourself in drone video/photo shots? (Sometimes when remaining on a small property, it's difficult to get shots without you in them). People don't seem to talk about tips on how to stay out of your own shot (I'd rather not spend the time editing me out).
keep in mind that both suits are very low level equipment and are very likely to be very reflective in the UV and NIR range, portions of the spectrum that many animals like birds and ungulates can see. This will actually increase the likelihood of being seen by those animals. In addition, such suits do not allow you to apply vegetation and natural elements. This will impair your camouflage since adding local vegetation is crucial to mask your smell.
Funny, in my last videomy twin shows up as well. It looks like both have their use. There are far too many people in my area to use camouflage like this, someone would call homeland security and send out the helicopters and dogs! Great video. Greg
I have also both, but I much prefer the 3D camo because of the package and light weight. And also my ghillie suit is long till the ground and you get stuck everywhere and bring half the woods with you. 🤣
Looks like either of those would be suitable for shooting Deer in a meadow or woodland environment, but I would likely go with the 3D suit as less likely to catch on the inevitable foliage! Thoughts @supertragopan?
Hi Espen. What are you doing on this channel? You have your own. I thought at the beginning that someone was very similar to you. But I looked closely- there can be no mistake - it's you. An indirect sign of similarity is that both are filmed on OM-1. I am subscribed to the Espen Helland channel. And then I became interested in disguise when shooting animals and came across this channel. Good luck with your work and good photos!
Ghillies you dont just use the burlap. Thats not real camp. You have to actually put vegetation in between the netting on the ghille. Th e Burlap is only to break the sillouette. Or at least a legit ghillie. A full pre bought suit is frowned upon in the Marine Scout Snipers. It must be hand made.
Finally found a photography channel for wildlife gear and advice!
Another geeat video and well explained
BEST OF 2023----Greetings from Germany
I use the Tragopan ghillie blanket a lot and have a very similar 3d leaf suit/hood too of which I tend to use the hood/jacket.
An option of netting should be provided to add local vegetation/reeds/grasses to the hide to blend in better.

And if you’d move (what you should only do if your following something) you should know exactly how to move because that also isn’t easy
What if my ass crack starts itchin from the Mrs. leftover beef stroganoff?

Does the hood eye mesh interfere when seeing through the camera visor in terms of colors?
Can't wait to try mine. I will let you know how it goes for me at Pape national park Latvia

I've only used the 3D blanket but it does tend to get caught a lot if I happen to let it drag a bit too low.

Espen is also a promoter and sponsored by Tragopan....
De er veldig bra disse der. jeg har begge to og er veldig fornøyd :)
Use whatever you like but just wearing basic earthy colours and being still always works - hands and face are definitely important to cover though.
Great gear. Pity you have sold out of both.
Movement and your scent are against you-learn basic bushcraft is my advice
