I feel Vegeta could only bring himself to say something like this in front of Cell or anyone else if a) he was easily winning the fight (which he was) and feeling good about himself b) he made sure to reinforce that he is still the stronger of the 2 lol.

How easily I forget that Vegeta said this.... to even draw attention to another Saiyan is out of character for him, but you can tell he's brimming with pride that his son is a powerful warrior just like himself...even if he never said it outright. A very subtle bit of dialogue which shows his cold heart beginning to thaw.

The first glimmer of love Vegeta shows for his son, this is the only time in my memory where Vegeta recognizes someone else's power and is happy about it. Usually he's either begrudgingly accepting the truth or in desperate denial when another warrior comes around rivaling his own power, but Trunks is the one guy he's genuinely happy about being a rival to him in power.
Well, it's a very subtle love, but I'm sure Vegeta felt some pride at Trunks for blasting him away when they were fighting about letting Cell become perfect. He felt like Trunks was weak emotionally and wouldn't dare attack his father, but Trunks showed he was willing to do what it takes to get what he wants. Of course he immediately gets pissed afterwards because it's stopping him from getting what HE wants, but at least Trunks stepped up.
The animation over the cell saga really engrained dbz in my brain forever. Vegetas glow was just of the charts here and I remember this scene vividly after 15 years
John Adams He was just making a joke. Like a joke you might see out of DBZ abridged where they reference the fact they're actually in a TV show. When Piccolo tells Raditzs the viewers aren't aware of what race Piccolo is when he calls him a namekian. "Actually that.. hasn't been explained yet." This guy's joke is the same in the sense that Vegeta can hear the music and tracks for the show and saying fuck it when they play a very misplaced track. It was a joke, my man. Sorry for the long explanation but I do agree Vegeta's themes are badass and very fitting for his character. The theme played in this clip is Hell's Bells. He has a super Saiyan theme and a new God theme. All of them are hard as a mofo.

I had initially thought Trunks was the strongest Saiyan of all up until that moment and of course Gohan being the one to defeat Cell. To this day they don't really explain whether Goku or Vegeta is truly the strongest Saiyan. It's still somewhat of a mystery.
But logically trunks was stronger than vegeta here. Let's not forget that trunks had super saiyan way longer than vegeta, and the fact that he's a hybrid saiyan meaning he has more potential than vegeta, he practically one shotted Frieza and his father with no difficulty, where as vegeta at that time would've been killed. To finally top it off he did the same amount of training vegeta did in the hyperbolic time chamber, so trunks should get greater results just like Gohan when he trained with Goku.

The cell saga is one of the best character development in anime history , I remember the feeling watching this as a kid , I have hope for everyone ,that time when picolo fused with kami , when Tien suprised everyone , hope for Bulma figuring this all out , hope for krillin to save the day , hope for vegeta defeating cell , hope for trunks, 16 exploding cell , except for yamcha , he's pretty much useless in the saga .

I'm pretty sure Vegeta made up for how hard he was on (future)Trunks when it mattered the most: when he was killed by Cell. Oh, and fighting to save Trunks' timeline about 10 years later. I'd bet the very noticeable change in Vegeta didn't go unnoticed to him either. If we're being honest, Vegeta only showed that he did care by going to fight Zamasu and Black multiple times, especially since he barely survived at least one of those fights. This is mostly aimed at people who said that this was the nicest Vegeta ever was to future Trunks, but they said that when the Goku Black saga had been over for years. That's long in the past though. They need to animate the Moro arc, and make it so good that Mr. Toriyama would be proud.

This guy's joke is the same in the sense that Vegeta can hear the music and tracks for the show and saying fuck it when they play a very misplaced track. It was a joke, my man. Sorry for the long explanation but I do agree Vegeta's themes are badass and very fitting for his character. The theme played in this clip is Hell's Bells. He has a super Saiyan theme and a new God theme. All of them are hard as a mofo.

This is his Ultra SSJ mode he isn't normally so bulky but as a bulky guy I was glad to see Vegeta representing us for at least one fight.
The only real moment in battle that vegeta finally acknowledges trunks.
Funny thing about this scene is that trunks believed he was stronger than vegeta at this point.
That was actually pretty big heads up from Vegeta.
I had initially thought Trunks was the strongest Saiyan of all up until that moment and of course Gohan being the one to defeat Cell. To this day they don't really explain whether Goku or Vegeta is truly the strongest Saiyan. It's still somewhat of a mystery.
But logically trunks was stronger than vegeta here. Let's not forget that trunks had super saiyan way longer than vegeta, and the fact that he's a hybrid saiyan meaning he has more potential than vegeta, he practically one shotted Frieza and his father with no difficulty, where as vegeta at that time would've been killed. To finally top it off he did the same amount of training vegeta did in the hyperbolic time chamber, so trunks should get greater results just like Gohan when he trained with Goku.

The cell saga is one of the best character development in anime history , I remember the feeling watching this as a kid , I have hope for everyone ,that time when picolo fused with kami , when Tien suprised everyone , hope for Bulma figuring this all out , hope for krillin to save the day , hope for vegeta defeating cell , hope for trunks, 16 exploding cell , except for yamcha , he's pretty much useless in the saga .

I'm pretty sure Vegeta made up for how hard he was on (future)Trunks when it mattered the most: when he was killed by Cell.
Oh, and fighting to save Trunks' timeline about 10 years later. I'd bet the very noticeable change in Vegeta didn't go unnoticed to him either. If we're being honest, Vegeta only showed that he did care by going to fight Zamasu and Black multiple times, especially since he barely survived at least one of those fights. This is mostly aimed at people who said that this was the nicest Vegeta ever was to future Trunks, but they said that when the Goku Black saga had been over for years.
That's long in the past though. They need to animate the Moro arc, and make it so good that Mr. Toriyama would be proud.
