Love 3D printed parts. I think most modelers continue this hobby for a lifetime. If some can print these, we all can. Invest the time to learn to design and print. The $150.00 printers put out awesome stuff.
Way cool. The grand staircases and the automobiles are awesome. Can not believe the detail in the furnishings. The detail inside your Titanic will be stunning, but, partially, invisible. But, you'll know its there.
I model for over 43 years now and i have to say that the printed parts look great, just when you say saving time in modeling lefts me to say that there is no time to be saved if it comet to your own model. When you are set with a deadline for someone else yeah thats correct Sir. Otherwise for your own you have time enough cuz no one is looking over your shoulder hahahahaha. You guys are great builders of what ive seen already and i folow you for over a year now. Hats of for your skills buddy, So great to have Nora included mate.
TIP: When cleaning your resin parts, it's best to use a soap that also de-greases, like Dawn dishwashing liquid. Then gently scrub with a SOFT toothbrush before rinsing with clean water.
Ben and Nora, fantastic presentation of what i had no idea existed - the idea of the interior and ball rooms being furnished at 200 scale never occurred to me
Your comments regarding the use of resin aftermarket parts-the same used to be said about photo etched parts. If you didn't scratch build the add ons, it wasn't true model building. In the end, it's just what gives you the most enjoyment out of the hobby.
You could go further and say that an injection moulded kit is just pre-made parts that you glue together lol. Is true modelling, building a kit from raw materials? A wide ranging question
Yeah I guess it’s a question of what is now deemed as “normal” modeling. I’m beginning to embrace it. I think the industry needs it because it kind of forces manufacturers to raise standards. Or produce kits that they’ve been ignoring for a long or loose market share. I’ve “wanted” a 3-D printer for a long time. So I guess I’m totally on board. I feel like it’s good to talk about. I’ve had people tell me I’m not building a real kit until I’ve done only paper kits... so I guess it’s time we just embrace the changes. Especially since it’s for the better.
Nice of them to send you all that stuff! Seeing there are a lot of interior design fluff pieces i think Nore should paint them all up! Like the benches, deck chairs, flower pots, etc... !! Lol I have mixed feelings on some of the 3D stuff, like you said, is it really model building? Well if you build just out of the box all those pieces and just like 3d parts! So.....! Well done once again guys!!
You mentioned Gene can't find anyone who casts the brass replacement parts and will cut off the casting remains. Actually, Shapeways does provide this service if you order cast metal. It's a bit expensive, but the parts they make look fantastic.
Hello you two, I must say I missed you both! Great video on those pieces, they're so dynomite, I myself may invest in some of those. 😜👍 As for the life boat I like the idea.👍 I'm dying to see how you tackled those PE inserts on those 3mm portholes in the hull.
Great video as always 😊Fun fact for you guys if want a super accurate Titanic build, there were 5 anchors, there was a Port and Starboard, an auxiliary in the Forecastle, a Stream anchor in the forecastle on the Starboard behind the wave break and a Kedge anchor on the Stern located on the poop deck
Very nice! You have you work cut out for you, I can't wait to see some of these painted up! Should take about a lifetime to finish? I'm in northern Maine, Really nice weather up here too! Got some yard work to do. Will look forward to your next video, stay safe!
Hi guys, great review on all these juicy additions! I just wish that we could get this stuff on a normal web page outlet. I want the furniture and the propellers!!!!! Model Monkey do cool stacks (funnels) too! I agree with others here to be a true modeller you use whatever suits the job. I will use anything if it makes my models look realistic. Any additional parts will only look good if they are painted well. ;-)
If you look in the video description there are links to order those parts. They are towards the bottom under “BnB Props and Drops”. I agree, I’d like to see a website, too. But this is how these folks are selling their wares.
Nice review of 3-D printed parts. The stacks look like a nice option, excellent details. May depend upon how the kit with Pontos parts turns out. An issue with 3-D printed parts is the visibility of "steps" created by the layering process. Even in the KA parts, some layer steps are visible on the cranes and vents. With respect to the 3-D printing process, how visible are the layers? Are they in areas that can be easily sanded?
On these stacks I couldn’t find the steps. I think it’s because the parts are actually big enough that they can be printed smoothly. But I could see steps on the Renaults. Up around the engine where it flares in. But the car is tiny compared to the funnels.
It must be strange moving to a luxury liner, after the recent battleship builds. No guns on this one but a whole load of interior detailing. You didn't have pianos and carpets to worry about on the Missouri.😁 The Renaults should go to the real "friends of the channel", like the guys who've sent you multiple painted figures. 𝑩𝒖𝒕, if there was one left over, it would look great on my mantlepiece here in sunny Scotland.😁 Cheers for now, Dougie.
How much of the interior are you planning to add on to your model? Also, are you going to install the carpeting and interior details that are available for this beautiful ship? This model is going to be gorgeous when you complete it. I'm looking forward to your next video, and I'm looking forward to the finished model.
For the extra cars, send a car to each viewer that sends you a figure. Of course you only have a limited amount of cars. Maybe you could work out a deal with the manufacturer?
Just to be a bit of a spoiler!! The car was actually listed on the ships inventory as being crated. So all that would have been seen was a box! This makes sense if you think about it as a delicate car would be very vulnerable to damage. The film had a bit of inventive licence on those scenes that show the car. However a car would look good next to the ship for scale and perhaps a few figures in a display case perhaps. Happy modelling, this project is getting expensive!!! ;-D
@@johnnyhollis9977 yes it is! I've decided to just get the KA set and leave it at that. This will be my first real ship project, I've built a couple warships in my younger days, but I build modern aircraft now. I hope most of the skill is transferrable, but I've watched a few ship build videos to learn more.
@@haraldsydness4902 Yes you will be fine. It's just like building a large fuselage without the wings! Obviously the potential for fitting out is enormous and your aircraft skills will come in very handy. The KA kit is fantastic (good choice) and the best upscale kit available. The only other thing that would really set off the model is a replacement Scaledecks wooden decking. It really is far superior to the KA version and highly visible. Obviously the list is endless on what you could get and to spend three times the cost of the ship is not uncommon now!!! The basic kit does have some silly errors that can easily be put right if you know in advance. There are window openings missing and moulding errors on part A12 (section 7) page 13. The 6 large bumps should be swivel opening port holes and need drilling out before assembly. The KA kit provides these on PE sheet A. May be better applied on the inside. Overall the plastic is way over engineered and too thick in many places. Plan ahead with this in mind if you decide to thin some of the parts down a bit to be in scale. The model does make up into a really nice display piece and with a few additions will look brilliant. I wish you well with your model and I hope that you get many hours of enjoyment from it. I don't think anyone needs to feel it's cheating to use 3D printed parts like this. These parts have detail that absolutely no one out there could replicate at these scales.
out of curiosity, what kind of job do you have, i am guessing something to do with gardening or something like that due to the workload increasing over the summer ?

One of the uprights was actually located in a corner near the grand staircase on the boat deck. I don’t exactly remember where the other upright was located. I have it in my notes somewhere, but if I had to guess I would say most likely on B deck near the aft grand staircase near the Ritz À la carte restaurant.

its because when the ship is viewed in a cutaway from the side there is a sort of upside down funnel above the boilers that collects the smoke and directs it out through the top, that's why they are called funnels.
