Thank you SO much! I am a midget and your video really inspired me! I one foot it & am real good. And I never stop on an uphill or downhill. I also use a 2 step ladder to get on & I usually ride to an area where I can get one foot down, like a curb. I lean a lot (45*) at stop lights but get one foot firmly planted. One advantage to my 3'7" height is that I tuck when going fast and hardly any wind hits me.

The thing to remind new riders of is "uneven pavement" at the bottom of hills, near curbs/gutters. It's tough to remember to use the foot opposite of the dips to keep yourself from falling over.

    • @mikey2864
      @mikey2864 Год назад

Good point, that's the trick.... if you don't (maybe you have to stop too quickly in an emergency) you might have to shuffle seat position VERY quickly... or you'll struggle not to drop it. Focus on keeping that 'hunk of steel' vertical (until you are moving at some speed) Then open the throttle - you earned it. 🙂

Great stuff! Jessica is 5'2 and goes through all that stuff too... best advice, like you said in the video... is that you're just gonna have to learn how to deal! We've modified Jessica's bikes slightly but she still has to make a few sacrifices, it is what it is.

Good tips. I sit at 5'3" 150lbs and after a few hundred to a thousand miles, I adjust my suspension usually one notch above middle. That gives me enough rebound for cornering with my weight, but just the right amount of sag. I just did a similar video a few weeks ago showing how I manage a stock R6 and Z650. Each bike sits very different, and requires totally different technique for stops and starts. The Z650 is a great short person or possible beginner bike. Keep up the great vids!

Smart lady, very good advice. I began biking in 1967 when all bikes were far less tall. Nowadays what I consider to be a giant bike (my GTR1400) is very heavy, with a high centre of gravity, and a far too high seat height - '.m 5ft. 9 ins. and on the balls of my feet!!!!!!! As any racer will confirm, for max. handling bikes need to be light, with a low centre of gravity, and low seating. Manufacturers routinely break these basic principles, and see only the need to inflict on us complex (immensely expensive to repair) unnecessary electronics. It's all extremely silly. The bike of mine I mentioned boasts a frame and wheels painted with ONE COAT of WATER COLOUR PAINT! For heaven's sake! So, to return to the subject - a vast number today's bikers are by necessity into shorter rear suspension and / or 'Lust Racing' suspension linkages, and / or lowered seats. And as girlie said - softening the suspension all round. Although girlie manages beautifully in daylight on flat ground, rest assured that slowly manaovering a very heavy bike after dark on uneven ground on tiptoe is an entirely different matter, and a damn good recipe for dropping the machine no matter how clever/ experienced one thinks one is. P.S. A sound temporary fix for ladies are high heels. I joke not.

Good comment from a reader that seat width matters! Not just for reaching the ground but for hanging off. Also, I can't touch quite as easily as you. Just swallow your pride if you are trying to back into a spot and can't get enough traction. Get off and roll it! Dropping your bike (especially if a gravelly surface) just isn't worth it!

@@daisyw23 Are you diehard into sport bikes, or have you considered a cruiser?
There are some pretty nice cruisers out there including the new Rebel that have a crazy low seat. My sister rides a suzuki GZ250, and she's 5'1 and sits flat foot with her knees bent!
If you're really into sport bikes though, that's cool too! Make it work for you!
You definitely have my respect :]
P.S. After looking, Kawasaki actually makes a pretty sick looking cruiser, the Vulcan S!
I don't know if you've seen it, but if you like Kawi (I do! I LOVE Ninjas and the Z125!) it's a pretty sick looking bike! It's got sexy curves and looks fast as hell! It's a 650 so it's a bit of a jump from your current bike, but it's just an example of how nice cruisers can be and not all look like Harleys or old man bikes.
      Good luck and ride safe!
      :D

I am a 5'5" tall guy with a 29" inseam and a WR250R. I like the kick stand trick, I usually look for a curb for getting on and off. I keep a concrete block near the garage for getting on and off.I have added a lowering link and slid the fork tubes up 18mm. The bike is a lot of fun...could use a little more pop, but the height is a real issue on single track. I keep getting into situations that if I could reach the ground would save me from falling over. The WR is a tank for a dirt bike and it is tough to pick up. I was hoping for a dirt bike, but will be limited to forest roads and street riding. What I need is something like the Honda CRF150 made street legal.

I have a vstrom 1000 with a seat height of 34 inches after padding added, my inseam is 29.5 inches, I too put my foot onto the left foot peg and swing my leg over like she does with her super-moto, someone described this to me like mounting a horse and I have to agree, I could swing my leg over if I was 20 yrs younger but the hips don't lie anymore just hurt LOL

People think it's just height, but the length of the legs isn't all... the width of your hips, (typically women have wider hips) and the width of the seat make a difference, a wide seat will eat up some of your leg length as you straddle it, so women can usually fit on a wider seat more comfortably. Your weight also has to do with it, a small light person wont compress the bike as much, even with adjusting the shocks, when a heavier person will drop the bike more.
Also take into account, some people are small, but have bigger feet.. I'm 5'6 but have a size 11 Nike foot. So my big ass feet make up for short legs when I use my tippy toes.
So all in all, with the same exact bike ten people of the same height will fit on it differently, some will be flat foot, some tippy toe, some won't fit at all... you just have to try out a few bikes and see what fits you.

Another tip when testing sitting bikes in a dealership, if the bikes has newer tires or new tires ,it's more realistic fitting, because soon or later you need to change ties, new tires will always be taller because center of the tires are never worn-out. I just changed to a sets of q3, I can't even tip toes, just barely. I have to use 1 feet for now. Also a slightly higher tire psi will increase height
