I had my identity stolen with equifax and started using proton recently I got so sick of seeing all spam the guy is clearly using both of my emails anyway thank you for your channel I'm learning so much
@@jamee6 he made a video about it
i've had it hacked through 2F, don't feel too bad. They have made some updates since then which are good though
I like how you opened the video, saying that you still use Gmail and frankly can't easily just dump it. That's exactly where I am. It makes me angry that I'm so tangled within the Google services that I feel handicapped without them yet I hate the lack of privacy. It's a true dilemma 😒.
Thanks, Tracy. It is a dilemma!
You’re stuck in the matrix
Is there an other problem besides work?
For every mail I receive I will inform the sender about my new address. If it is a server, service, company… I log on to that and change the address myself.
I have many mail services that I have used or are still using and about 1000 email addresses/aliases. By containerizing my emails I receive about no spam. 😉
You are the matrix
It's like using Brave or Duchduckgo search engines. Eventually I find myself going back to Google Search on some occasions.
I have just set up a free Proton account for the relatively few emails that require that extra level of security. Thanks for the information.
Thanks for the explainer. I’ve sometimes wondered about Proton mail but didn’t know how it worked with non Proton users.
Glad it was helpful, Alex!
I was unaware of the encrypted and timed options (at least how to access them), very informational!
Great, thanks!
Kudos to Josh! Highlighting a very important aspect on our digital lives: encryption and privacy.
I've been using ProtonMail paid from the beginning and haven't been hacked even once. Using a paid account got me their calendar and drive when they were in beta. A free account is ok, but a paid account gets you so much more perks. Wouldn't change anything. BTW, their customer service is astounding.
Agree with customer services
Do you use ProtonMail or the whole Proton Unlimited paid plan? Do you think the unlimited plan would be worth the money?
@@SaschaKaeser, it definitely is.

Extremely High-Quality Video Good Job! What Mic Do You Use?
Oh man this is awesome!
Thanks for making this video. I'm definitely switching to protonmail, I don't want to become a replica of myself from stolen identity lol
Everything you have and do on Google is indexed and registered by them, in order to collect as much data about you as possible (which is their business model and why their services are “free”).
That is why I have never used Google for my documents, calendars and email.
Google may be secure when sending email, that is not the issue. The issue is their indexing and “reading” of everything we have there.
It sounds good to secure emails with a pass-code. Sensitive information sent to family members seems straight forward (you can text or tell them the password). But in dealing with your financial institutions ... are the happy to deal with the passwords needed to unlock the password protected messages or documents ?
Hi, I've been watching your channel for a while now and you've taught me so much! May I request you do a video on Avast's antivirus? I've been using their browser and antivirus for a while now and I'd like to get a second opinion on it. Thank you.

Considering this for my banking
Have you had any experiences sending encrypted email to a business through proton mail? I'm wondering how big business plays ball when receiving emails from clients where they need to redirect to proton mail to open your message. Wondering if using this would be useful when for example sending a mortgage application to a broker/bank which contains SIN, or if it would cause delays because they are apprehensive to opening a link in your email.
Great video btw, has me thinking.
Most companies do not allow employees to click incoming links. So even sending a "encrypted link" fails. Proton doesn't help much with this.
Great video, however I've been using the mobile app for the calendar for years now, very very satisfactorily.
Great! Personally, it's only recently that they've developed it to the point that I can use it.
Can ì continue to use my email service n not use Proton as I am not a member yet
I love PROTONMAIL! So awesome!

Great presentation! I subbed and will set up a free account. I'm gonna use it for the same purposes you use it for and I'm certain that I will eventually upgrade to a paid account.
Awesome! I hope you enjoy using it.
Awesome video, how about office 365? How does that compare in terms of price, features and security?
I honestly don’t know. I’ll have to do my research on 365.
What if the bank sends an email to your proton account? Is that encrypted end to end and how do you open that. All emails sent from proton require a key?
Very good explanation
Thanks!
Proton calendar is in beta on android. Works really well.
Thank you for this helpful video. How do you provide the key to the recipient of your email?
The easiest way you can that you feel comfortable with. I don’t mind giving via text message unless it’s super sensitive and then I’ll tell in person or via another means.
Hi All things Secure, can you do a a video on whether Apple Mail is secure after Apple has been making Big campaigns on privacy lately? Thank you.

hey, I just watched unbreakable, and I gotta say, you really look like the MC in that movie!
Different facial structure, but if you haven't you should watch the sixth sense too! Same actor as the lead role, same director. Brilliant movie

Lol, the actor whose name they didn't mention has probably been called "ruggedly handsome" more than anyone else, ever. Thanks for the vids, Mr. "die-hard" security guru!
You should do an updated video on this. Lots of updates in Proton since.
I should. Thanks for the suggestion.
I've been using the Proton Calendar app on Android for 1 week now, no problems at all.

how would you send your bank the encrypted message and password? well just the password part is confusing. how would you send them the password. wouldnt people be able to see this password if you send it through the same email?
Great video

If I send an email via proton can that email be traced back to my IP address or is every email going out thru a VPN thru Proton?
Interesting thx
You’re welcome.
365 also offers password protected email now. Is it encrypted? Probably. Works the same as ProtonMail's email link
I use Tutanota as my primary email provider and disroot as my backup.
Nice. How has that worked out for you?
I found the Tutanota Calendar too underdeveloped for any real-world use.
Good to know. Thanks!
I use protonmail for its spam filter. It's 100% better than any other client.
I waffle between switching because I love google services but do like the idea of doing what I can to keep data private. (Even though encryption in email sucks because a simple screenshot can defeat the purpose of expiration). I do find myself missing google calendar etc and wonder how much it really matters.
From a practical point of view, how do let your recipients know the password you’ve set on an email?
do you think they will make their calendar be on an app soon? That's a big selling point for me
Yes, they now have a calendar app.
how about covering email apps that support encryption (Thunderbird with GPG, or Mailvelope, etc)
Thanks for the suggestion.
I use protonmail solely for my business contacts. Currently using their free vpn but thinking of upgrading to one of their payed for versions.
Don’t know what you think of free vpn’s , probably not a good idea.
Protons is okay because they bank on you eventually upgrading, but most others don't actually give you any VPN functionality.
It almost made sense. If you send the ete encrypted message AND send the key to the person what keeps an intruder from intercepting the key too?
Well, this would be assuming the attacker can gain control of multiple devices. You send the private email and then send the key via mobile phone. The safest way to do that is send the text message not as normal SMS (very insecure), but with an end to end encrypted messaging app like Signal or Threema. Same idea as ProtonMail but over text. I use Signal. Both Signal and Proton have really upped their game this year in making a more pleasant UI and features.
But how effective is it really if your bank or other entity that handles your sensitive information sends you emails that are not encrypted other than TLS?
Thankfully, banks are never supposed to send emails with sensitive information, so that shouldn’t be a problem.
PLEASE: a video on how to manage if i had my Hotmail since 1994… how do I manage that with a Proton mail system ?
You mean how do you migrate to a new email address? Or how to manage your old address through ProtonMail? I’m not clear.
@@AllThingsSecured yeah I know I am not clear … yes I would say : to migrate all to proton ? Or I just slowly change all the important emails (banks, crypto, government etc) to Proton mail. Also: can you open many email account on proton emails in case one gets back ?
ProtonMail # 1
So you can password-protect outgoing mail even if you're sending mail to someone who doesn't use ProtonMail or a similar service. But what protection is available to you if you use ProtonMail and someone who doesn't use it sends _you_ a message in the ordinary way-in the "clear"? Thanks.
So the message itself might still be at risk since it’s likely stored on the mail server of the sender. On your side, though, ProtonMail still encrypts all messages in your inbox such that even Proton can’t decrypt your mail even if they were asked to.
@@AllThingsSecured Thanks.
@@mikearst2940 Mike, there are two aspects to this issue: if you send an encrypted email to a non proton recipient and that recipient responds to that particular email, that particular return email will be encrypted. If the recipient replies via a new email , then Josh's comment above applies.
@@brunoterlingen2203 Thanks for the additional information.
Thank you. Also if I create a free protonmail account, how long before they delete my emails? And do I need to enter all contacts again? I'm not very tech savvy so thank you!
You can export your contacts from whatever service you're using now. And Proton won't delete your emails, but there is a limit to how much storage you have, so if you have too many, you either need to upgrade your account, delete older emails, or risk having new emails rejected because the inbox is "full".
Can protonmail be used for placing online orders, say with Amazon, for example?
Absolutely! You can use any kind of email address as long as it's registered to your Amazon account.
Just one question, if the security of pc of the receiver is compromised even though they use protonmail, isnt there a possibility this sent information can be collected?
Only if the secret key is also compromised along with the device.
honestly its good as a private email account, well more personal stuff, like for nsfw websites, other than that, I probably wouldn't really use it for anything else.
Protonmail since this video has been updated a lot and looks a lot better than this.
1:45 End-to-end encyption.
I've been using protonmail for a year (but sadly, I haven't used it for real production) and it's not a bad email service.
I have a plethora of email addresses that I manage (one is my personal, the other is used for job searching/related-matters and another one is for other personal stuff) and I'm considering of migrating one of my personal emails to protonmail - full time.
What's your advice and suggestion for my situation?
What did u end up doin
Actually thinking about signing up for a Proton account. I'll try the free account first. I would like to dump yahoo once and for all. Tired of all their fake news!
Thanks for sharing! Another thumbs up!
Great! I think you’ll like the Proton account.
Google “confidential mode” = lipstick on a pig
Best analogy ever!!!
I'd like to switch proton calendar as well but until they make a widget for android app it can't replace my google calendar
Yea, I'm hoping that the calendar comes out of beta soon!
3:15 ... say i send an email from myself to myself but without ecrypting it like you did at 3:11, so just a regular email... the team at proton can see it, right? It is just that they cannot see the encrypted emails, right? This is what they claim, right?
No. Anything on their servers is encrypted so that Proton can’t see it. What makes that not as secure is that the person who sent the email still has their copy on Google servers, which isn’t encrypted. Make sense?
"putting lipstick on a pig" Dude i spit my drink on my monitor! Damit!
😂🤣😆
What he does in his personal life ...
Question; if I upload a pic to proton drive, does it is scanned by proton? Is it also stored on encrypted mode while in transit and at rest? Can proton look at the pic when it’s stored in proton drive?
No, yes, no.
How safe in genereal it is if you send emails to yourself (regardless of whether they are encrypted or not)? What i want to know is what is the chance of somebody (other than your email provider) is able to intercept it and see it?
Emails to the same provider?
@@AllThingsSecured Yes, having for example an account at Proton and send yourself proton emails using proton. Are the proton emails encrypted by default, meaning Proton themselves (the provider) cannot see your emails? Or you must click on the lock icon to encrypt emails so that not even Proton team can see what you are doing?
@@etienlemut1492 I don't understand why you'd be sending emails to yourself. But, yes any messages from a Proton account to another Proton account are automatically encrypted without you doing anything extra. Should be exactly the same if you sent message to yourself: from Proton to Proton. And end to end encryption means that your message is encrypted on your device before it leaves your device to go to Proton servers and is only decrypted on the receiver's device (assuming they have Proton or you sent an encrypted message to a non Proton user). So, Proton never sees the content of the message.
I live in philippines.can i use proton email service over here?
Something that I've long wondered about is how "safe" the Proton mail application is on an Android phone... I'll be the first to say I have never taken the time to look into Android security, and because of that, other than my gmail accounts, I never really do anything secure on my phone. I never do any sort of financial transaction on my phone, like mobile order and payment at McDonalds because I just don't trust it. Maybe I'm being overly cautious, and my not having taken the time to learn about Android security is my fault (I'm so busy with work I don't have the time to learn new things for systems that I don't need to use.) I'm just wondering if there might be a way for Android to get around the Proton Mail app's security.
Everybody has their own level of caution and privacy. Don’t be ashamed of where you’re at, just work out a system that fits your comfort level.
I was going to switch from outlook to Protonmail but I forget my password from time to time so definitely not an option for me as I would still like to see older emails....... that's too bad.
Sounds like you need a better way to backup your passwords, Ryan!
@@AllThingsSecured ahahah.. I have 1password but the risk is still there
Fyi, there is now a proton calendar app
Yeah, well, it's just another layer, not enough if you REALLY need security (that means, if there is some running activity focused on compromising your security), but super secure for ordinary person that doesn't fall into any vulnerable category.
Question: You briefly covered SENDING emails to non-Proton Mail users. You did not BEGIN to cover what benefit (if any) Proton Mail provided when non-Proton Mail users send email to your Proton Mail account.
You can open any email securely, but since you have no control over how it was sent, there is no email service that can provide extra benefit for opening emails from other services, unfortunately.
It is a chore to change, impossible it is not.
So how would you give this key to said person. 🤔 is there a warning if wrong pass key is used.
If the wrong key is used, the message simply doesn’t open.
@@AllThingsSecured Of I was wondering if it sent a message back to the sender that a failed attempt was made. So you would know someone was trying to access it that didn't have the key.
I'm watching this video at 9:13. The time on your watch in the video is 9:13.
😂😂
I don't think you should call the shared symmetric password a "private key". private key has a particular meaning within asymmetric encryption, and you should never share it
I downloaded protonmail,
I saw "upto 50 email aliasis"... how is that work?
Where did you see that? I know that ProtonMail offers more than one email address for Plus plan and above, but for most any service provider the email aliases are unlimited.
Okay so you're sponsored by ProtonMail and you didn't explain the compensation agreement. You could've agreed to give a positive review of ProtonMail instead an unfiltered one. And I'm not going to watch an 8 minute video to see if you say anything negative about the service. So now I still don't know if I can trust ProtonMail. My RUclips search continues.
ProtonMail best
How can use of Proton email protect the user if their phones & computers have been permanently breached/hacked and no amount of resets or new tech can keep the determined scumbags out? The "private key" will be taken before even reaching the intended recipient.
@@saltysourdough Never said devices are hacked on 1st use post reset/reinstall or new devices have already been hacked. It usually takes up to a month for the LOW life SCUMBAGS regain ILLEGALL access.

Yes in 2023 they do
Does proton not process the data after decryption? (after entering password).
No. It is decrypted on your device alone, not on their servers. Your phone or computer is what holds the private key. Proton does not.
@@timothyritter419 thats what, Proton knows whats inside once decrypted.
@@srcsmxd according to them they do not. Its decrypted on your device locally, which supposedly means they are not seeing it. I don't know exactly how all that works technologically. But that's how it happens with all end to end encrypted stuff (messaging, email, cloud storage, etc.) I'm sure there are others out there that can explain how it works. And with all the techy folks out there who use this, I feel fairly certain that if they thought Proton was then able to see your stuff, they wouldn't be using the service in the first place.
