It seems as though the new Yamaha YXZ 1000R SxS isn't made for the Southeast type riding at all. At Moonlight offroad park this guy was racing his and as you can see in the video he was having some issues with the clutch system. Finally after 2 laps the clutch gave up and the Yamaha wouldn't move anymore.
Title should be "driver struggles".
I made it up twice. how is that a struggle ?
@@jbarth636 sounded like you was trying to rip the transmission out, and the engine sounded like it was struggling. Is that normal on that yamaha?
Yxz1000 is like a 2 stroke mx bike. Amazing if you will put in the time and learn some technique. I think that all these guys got so used to a CVT that they forgot about driving skill with a manual. You gotta be super attentive with a manual gearbox driving on rough stuff like this.
I agree
You've also gotta consider that the clutch in these things is the same exact one as in the V-max street bike, and it's being askes to spin far more rotating mass then it was designed to. The guys clutches were slipping at sevral points and on top of that, he panicked.
Millienials don't know what a manual transmission is.
Dude can't drive! Two of my buddies have them and have no problems like that.
People can't drive worth a crap.. Just because you have a recluse clutch that doesn't mean you can drive it like a automatic. It's a manual transmission there's a clutch for a reason. Hold the clutch in, get the rpm's high the let go of the clutch. It pretty much comen spence, I know this and im 15 years young.
absolutely
yeah I think he needed a little more practice getting used to it before attempting that. he was feathering/ burning the clutch way too much. was just a matter of time that it gave out. yes, lower gearing would help a ton, just a matter of time and someone will come out with it. if anything the rekluse clutch would have helped him a bunch
I was just on a 4 day weekend with mine going up similar terrain in the mountains, I had zero issues.
It is not the machine it is the driver he can't Drive for shit
where were you?
This is exactly where the low gearing swap would help immensely. 70% reduction in first, 30% overall. In stock form, even with a skilled driver its just geared too high for this kind of riding. Out west or in sand dunes its great, just not so much here.
I love the YXZ!
its driver skill in moab ut I have seen locals take stock p.o.s were the guys with the tricked out rigs could not go
I'm tired of people giving the YXZ shit about rock climbing. It doesn't have a low range. Granted, a stronger clutch would help, but I rock crawl in my standard pickup and never had any problems, BECAUSE I HAVE LOW RANGE. I still love the YXZ.
The fault isn't really yamahas. Any idiot who buys one for this thpe of riding is at fault. The idiot should've thought..."hmmm, why is it that 99.9% of rock crawlers & trail trucks tun auto slushboxes instead of a stick?" The answer would've been self evident.
Can't fix poor driving lol
Or a pile of shit UTV
+rzr kid you would know
+Brendyn 15 Hahaha, my clutches still work, thanks though
+rzr kid haha different for everyone !
+Brendyn 15 True! Im sure at least a handfull of them things work okay
These things are build to be more focused on racing... What did you expect?
Racing, no, they're toys that are incapable of running anywhere but the sand box. In trails, they're just as useless as the pos banshees that the sand fleas love.
When I said racing I meant on a track and yes of course the sand. It doesn't have the gearing to be run like that.
+ROTAXD Apparently you dont follow SXS racing. The CVT's are getting destroyed by the Yamaha
+Dan Henderson apparently you misunderstood my comment. A rig engeneered for the track usually does not fare well on the trail. Ie: these things should be cleaning up on the track.
Clutch problems, you can tell by the front tires that either the clutch is slipping due to wear or the driver is riding the clutch.
After looking at the hydraulic clutch design you cannot rest your foot on the clutch or it will slip. Highly possible that it's a driver problem but it doesn't help if the UTV doesn't have a low enough gear.
It was the rekluse clutch he had installed... They burn up every time and the trails there's lots of videos on them and then people point the finger at Yamaha and give them a bad name
Is he in second gear?I have watched this several times and it seems as he downshifts one time and it comes to life?
+rzr kid very weak high gear.
+Mike Panocatapolis (Not boba fett) Yeah, these things are more suited to quick trails/desert racing, not so much slow trails/bouncing
CVT would have been fine on all of the above, and even if you break a belt, 10 mins later you can be back on the trail..
+Mike Panocatapolis (Not boba fett) You are definitely right, there is a reason that every other UTV (other than honda) uses a cvt
+Mike Panocatapolis (Not boba fett) 10 minutes and 80 bucks but I agree
Guy was too gutless to put some fuel into the cylinders. Every time he hit a bump he got scuuured
also correct
the yxz 1000r isnt made for rock climbing. Yamaha designed it to go fast and handle well.
I've seen videos where the Yamaha kicks ass in rock climbing.
@@danhenderson783 you're right lots of them... Including blown budget off-road Channel
YXZ can handle anything in the southeast . (I wouldn’t do a ton of rock crawling but I have done it )
I ride wv Hatfield trails a lot
Busco beach
Midway
Carolina adventure world
Uhwarrie orv national park
Just to name a few and that’s about all south east terrain.
it's like trying to ride a 450mx bike in 2 stroke territory....not hard to figure out its going to struggle. maybe with the new paddle shifters on the ss model it will reduce a lot of driver error and finally people will stop bagging on the Yamaha.
Why god why????? Why would anyone would try to use a Side by Side that REVs to 10500RPM for Trailing? a Side by Side that can do 30mph in 1st gear? WHY GOD?????
Except for this slimed hill the Yamaha would be a blast, that's why.
i have a recluse clutch in mine ,i love it in the woods ,you can creep with no problem and with gear to gear you get that connected feel . with the kit it doesnt stall but you can still use the clutch to take off hard if you need ,,never thought i would like one either until i went for a ride in my friends ,went and bought one the next day
He has to be in the wrong gear...
+rhino250r nope thats how high 1st gear is
+MadRam11 Someone at KOH had a reduction unit.Lookout RZR fans.
+Ernest Clawson I thought that to be the high low system on the rzr works so much better for this style of riding.
+MadRam11 You sure he didnt have an auto clutch? Seems to be slipping a bit. But not like powering through the clutch. More like an auto that has too much traction for its power. Maybe im not explaining it well. But something seems wrong.
Obviously he burned up the clutch
given it's shortcomings I thought it did okay. this obviously is not the yxz's strong suit and Yamaha didn't intend it to be. it's made for fast trails and the dunes which I have experienced first hand. it does those things very well. I thought it was more fun to drive fast than my rzr is
recluse clutch not engaging properly is my guess.
the biggest problem is the brutal lack of torque, if I bought a sxs that was as shitty as that it would be back at the dealer that same day lol. I guess for Yamaha guys you really have to buy the Viking and the yxz to be capable in all terrains.
Yamaha should have just put in an automatic transmission or a cvt, when your doing that kind of stuff you need to focus on where the wheels are going not your feet and hands working a clutch... you guys know we're I'm coming from correct
Wasn't designed for rock climbing. They didn't want a cvt in it
If it's not designed for it then why waste your time and money trying to turn it into something it's not.
25k dune monster being put through this... crying shame.
can't mix drivers errors
MadRam tell him to give Tube Works a call about that gearing/clutch issue
That hurt to watch please teach this man how to drive
Where is the Moonlight Offroad Park ? thanks for all the awesome videos you put on here
I could of done it without smoking the clutches
so did i, twice.
Seen your videos Tate. Absolutely driver skill could get the Yamaha up this hill
No hate here I've been a rzr fan from the beginning! But I just saw one of these today and thought they were fu king sick! Watching this I gotta believe these clutches are poop for this kinda stuff!? They must make a decent clutch kit for these huh? Idk how long they have been out so no idea on them
The machine is not the problem, its all driver. Didn't have it in 4 WD to start, and constantly letting off the gas at the wrong time loosing his momentum.
+Jerry Stoneking
Wrong. It's geared so high you have to be beating on it to stay up in the rpm where you have torque then when you let off to get control it falls on it's face. There are gear sets available to fix this and hopefully Yamaha will pull their head out of there butt someday and see that there are more people than just dune runners interested in these.
+Gonecheenin After re-watching the video, I see what your talking about. Assuming he was in the correct gear, he just didn't have the low end torque he needed. I'm not very impressed with the 4WD (AWD) either; it just seam to stop on the front tires while the back ones are going at it.
Yeah - that machine has a torque limiter feeding the front driveshaft - it's basically a strong AWD posi pack that will slip once torque to the front wheels gets high enough. A poor design for what we do, but Yamaha has made it a point repeatedly to clarify this machine was built for the dunes. not the woods. It does have a ton of potential though if they ever decide to refine it for wheelin.
Madram is this the first one of these you've seen out there?
He's gotta have the rekluse clutch kit. he would have snubbed it 10 more times that low of r's the first time he got hung up.
let's all be honest. buy an enduro bike (300 2t), learn to ride, and lots more trails East or West coast will be open to you.
Because polaris and can-am have cvt they will ace this kind of terrain. Cvt converts torque better than the sequential gearbox found in this thing or a DCT from a honda. The only advantages of gear driven trans is its more efficient in putting the power down less drivetrain loss. engines like 1000cc are not torquey thats why in the first place they are using cvt.
Disagree...I believe it has more to do with costs. CVT will never outperform a sequential. If that was case why not NASCAR and Formula1. CVT are less expensive to manufacture, less expensive to repair and less expensive to replace. All about keeping costs down.
+bp969 ...disagree. Cvt is a proven design that's been used in powersports aplications since the 1960's. As for them being inefficient...if they're set up right they're extremely efficient and extremely user friendly. As for why don't f1 & nascar use them...why would they ? A manual gearbox in a street vehicle is not an issue. In nascar, except for what, 2 races a year, they shift into top gear and it stays there. F1 cars are mostly air shifters that don't require using the clutch pedal unless you're stopping.
R.I.P. YXZ Clutch
These things need low range or gearing change. Polaris would kill it in these conditions
That guy would kill ANY SxS. He doesn't have a clue how to use one. He won't own one long, unless he has a fat wallet.
ooh ouch, its one thing to buy one for this stuff but to spend all that and have no fun...
guarantee this guys next purchase will be a Tubeworks tranny
So much for all the Yamaha salesman that said the Rekluse would be an effective fix...
ive always liked yamaha motorcycles and atvs i was excited that they were finnaly comming out with a performance utv then this came out and i was pretty dissapointed... long wait for nothing i will keep my polaris
did the clutch burn up?
+Brendyn 15 The question still stands... And yes eric, I believe it did
Probably. The clutch in these uses the same plates as the v-max...and it's being asked to spin much more rotating mass.
@@brendyngreiner3148 yes a real manual not an automatic with paddle shifters.
We call those NON DRIVERS here the Appalachian area. Nothings going to handle improper shifting so DONT BLAME THE MACHINE just because the operator had a cockpit failure 🤦🤦
The Yamaha is not a trail or rock climbing SXS. It is a high revving sport or track vehicle.
Not sure when the CVT crowd will comprehend this.
We do comprehend this. Thats why this video is on the interwebs. To scoff at the fool who brought his chain driven dune machine to the hills and destroyed it.
its not so much the "crowd" but the CVT, although less fun, doesnt distract, the manual just cant keep up, just like on the street, I have an RT Challenger 6sp, only because I love hand shakers, but the autos are faster though the eighth and quarter mile. Polaris has a world class CVT, the yamaha isnt ready fro prime time. My 900 XP RZR albeit with the right work done (superATV A-Arms bent up out of the way and way thicker/stronger, and fixed the "flow" with intake and fuel controller and true TBR dual exhaust) nothing is perfect but Ill tell you what, I raised my ACTUAL clearance 2" with these highlift A-Arms, not a dumb 2" body kit that left the low hanging straight a-arms to dig in.
Its all how smart you are in attacking the weakness, the yamaha needs a WAY WAY bigger and better cooled clutch, it also has same problem as a wildcat, its too low! meaning when we ride witha buddy who has one, we feel bad for them because theyre always 200% more dirty then any of us on 1000s or 900s, and the ground clearance is terrible but that can be overcome. the manual will never compete in the mud, not anymore, but a way bigger badder clutch, better cooled, and a nice A-Arm lift kit and it needs a body lift, with better bigger tires and the yamahaha will do a lot better
+l8tr597 Apparently you don't follow SXS racing. The Yamaha is killing it.
+Dan Henderson your right, I don't, but I sure don't follow one of these in east Texas.
So you may be right, I'm just saying my old 2013 would stomp what I just saw
+Dan Henderson I didn't say there wasn't any place for this, it's not made to go anywhere, my rzr (with work, so it wasn't perfect either) will go anywhere
I bet he was pissed
you can hear that recluse clutch not letting the engine rev.... am i the only one who noticed?
Wow yamaha really needs to put a low range on those...
Hey guys! I am from Mongolia and I am looking forward to buy UTV for rally, mud and offroad. Which one is suits better? Can am, Yamaha and Polaris??? Also I want to customize it and upgrade it. Is there any recommended service companies in LA?
Your advices means a lot guys. It is better to take some advice from whom knows rather than just ask a sales person.
Thanks, Tsooj
I would look into buying a Polaris RZR, that would be the best machine for what you are wanting and lots of aftermarket support for them also.
seriously under powered, or there is something wrong with it
The Yxz does only two things great, flying down logging roads and dunes, that's it. A friend of mine traded his built Rzr XP for one and I warned him before buying it and sure enough he's disappointed cause he can't ride mud, snow or do any kind of tight trail riding.
+Dan Pitre why not mud? i figured theyd be better since theres no belt for all that mud to mess with and everything mechanically is pretty sealed. thats really the only problem i had with my polaris was the belt being extra grabby and sticky after a few mud puddles
Dan Pitre simplest solution to this is gear reduction kit after that they will crawl up about anything u point them at
Although I am a massive of Yamaha and really like the YXZ, i believe there may be a design flaw that Yamaha needs to take look at and fix. The clutch slipping or blowing seems to be an issue that needs to be addressed asap. Enough of these videos get put out, maybe Yamaha will look into doing something about it for the next ones.
Hey +MadRam11 looks like Yamaha gets their front differentials from Can-Am lol! Got the one wheel peel gonna on
it has an electric front locker
didn't have it locked in
Gearing it too tall for technical crawling and this type of terrain.
Man that's pretty sad. looks like you have to wind these things up before they make any power.
+tuttlepuddle its not that it doesn't have the power. hes too stupid to realize that his CVT belt is burned up. the CVT tranny that those have have two variable pulleys and a belt to go between the engine and transfer case. the only part of those that actually has gears is the transfer case.
+tuttlepuddle actually, i stand corrected, ijust looked it up and they have 5 speed sequential gearboxes. sorry for the misunderstanding.
+Elijah Spade genius...the yxz is a manual tranny with a manual clutch...not a cvt. Any other machine with a cvt would've made it.
+ROTAXD if you read my reply after, I clarified my mistake
looks like the yami has multiple issues , under powered , small tires, narrow wheel base and lack of travel
Underpowered?????? LOOOOOOOOL
+Dan Henderson yup, turbo rzr is way better then this turd
not sure if 112hp is underpowered ,lack of travel ,narrow ,you might want to look at spec sheets..and any gear to gear trans will put more power to the ground than any power robbing belt ,,plus hp doesn't matter is the torque numbers ,,i have no issues with mine ,you have to remember most people dont know how to drive or take care of there machines
This is not made for hill climbs or anything like that it I and for only fast and jumpy trails and dunes. That is y it is better that a rzr in my opinion
for what they cost, that machine should have a low range. but this guy needs to spend his money on a rekluse clutch and Barnett clutch discs.
+kyle stewart Yes Kyle that the first thing rekluse and Barnett clutch discs. For about $1,500 yes I will
for $1500! wow, thats more then it cost me to do a DragonFire Intake, A TBR true dual exhaust, and a powerCommander w/autotune, and super ATV highlift A-Arms, which put my 900XP in 1000 spanking territory, done it so not even stock 1000s, all the power but 300lbs less weight
This machine is not designed for this style of terrain....
Well it definitely wasn't engineered for crawling and trail riding.
All driver error should have bought an automatic side by side
all that cash wasted
Really wanted to like these things, but they just don't seem to be able to hang with the rzr.
This guy cannot drive to save his life I've seen these do amazing things and it's a Yamaha going to run longer than anything and again it's a Yamaha turbo kits everywhere already.
Yeah...you obviously need to watch more videos before making a statement like that. How bought you watch pro sxs racing instead of reading shit on the internet before you make uneducated comments.
bp969 i dont read on the internet your making assumptions so you might as well shut your bitch mouth. It is a fact that this will run longer as its a Yamaha for one, secondly can am i love them they have a v twin which gets much more wear in them, polaris i used to ride them until they turned to complete shit, dont argue with me about this as i will make so many proven points you wont be able to argue with me. Have a nice day.
+Sackmatters yeah who the hell invited you to the conversation? We'll see. Yamaha will be on top. Oh wait it already is.
bp969 thought you were implying to me lol sorry... but are you referring to a polaris fan boy?
made 4 racing not climbing
+Green goblin They climb just fine, just not oriented for low speed technical stuff.
Lol ok
Someone needs to tell him that there’s a clutch and a throttle for a reason
they make a recluse clutch for this ya know!!
looked like he was using one.....
Build quality on Polaris is top notch wtf r u talking about
it's a bad belt. his clutch was smoking the belt that was clearly bad when he started.
what belt?
+Tate Pearson CVT'S use a belt to drive the transfer case. it was gone when he started. it had plenty of power to get up there but the belt was just too fried to make it.
+Tate Pearson i stand corrected they have a 5speed sequential gearbox.
Well as Yamaha proudly states pure sport...... This doesn't qualify. Polaris rzr is definitely an all terrain sport side by side that really covers it all. YXZ is just to niche.
I can smell the clutch from here....
needs a better clutch
The YXZ looks like it's built for racing not hill/rock climbing. Probably poor driving skills as well.
my rzr 800s kicks ass.
lol ,, I LOVE Yamaha , but I think they need to put a " NOT A ROCK CRAWLER" sticker on it ! Personally I don't understand why guys try to compete with those Homebuilt machines... I'm sure its fun ,, but yikes...
1 Up 4 Down1st Gear is up
Built with stock clutch...... Like anything else
Just not what these things are built for.
Pretty sure that's just a driver that has no fucking clue what he's doing. That's not tight enough to give the yxz1000r any trouble. Any true rock crawling, then yeah, it's gonna have some problems. Now put it on a race track and see what happens.
The YZX is not made for rock climbing and mud bogging! do the research... great desert machine!
Hell that thing doesn't have enough power to pull a greasy string out of a cats ass....
Not a lack of power. The damn things are geared like indy cars...hell, if you eliminate the factory speed limiter, they'll run 100mph. They're geared for the sand fleas that ride in the dunes.
+ROTAXD yelp
In stock form the Yamaha YXZ's just aren't capable of terrain like this.
yeah they suck for sure on this stuff
It seems people need to do a little more research when buying a machine. I find a lot of people get caught up in marketing hype and brand preference instead of really getting to know the pros and cons of various models. People need to take more time to understand all the different machines and models out there. Great video like usual man, I always look forward to your uploads!
The only SXS finisher in the King of the Hammers was a Yamaha. Slow speed rock crawling for days.
I agree. But anyone talking like one guy about Popo reliability or toughness is a brand loyalist and knows little of the sport. Popo may not be perfect, but they've been doing it a long time, and it shows. Military to hobbiest, to perfectionist, Polaris is the benchmark at this point, I have a 2013 900 that hasn't had issue one, and it's been buried twice to the point of needing help, that's with a 4K winch
Even a broken clock it right twice a day, big deal! It won an event Taylor made for it, Polaris has thousands of Victories, in many many places, so what's the score? Like 2400 wins to 1? Sorry if that's your benchmark, then buy your Yamaha, and in east Texas here where we ride, up to the painted desert in AZ, you can break your arm shifting and it won't matter, it's too low, you'll be eating dirt the whole time due to the height of passengers, just like the Wildcat, it's a cool machine too, but it's no contender that's for sure
I was there
The YXZ is built for the west which is more fun anyway.
Ya, riding around in a sand box, which takes little/no skill is great. Smh
+ROTAXD someone's never ridden out west.
+motoman001 if I had not ridden in the sand, I'd have no right to comment. I commented.
+ROTAXD again, there's more than glamis or Dumont. Try dove springs, Kennedy Meadows, calico, randsburg, or even Taylor park, CO.
Dude needs a rzr because he doesn't know how to operate a manual
another bad attemp from Yamaha ....who wants to be shifting gears in the woods ?? Show that Yamaha is NOT listening to consumers.......
Yea, yamaha listened...but only to the sand fleas out west.
Poor poor clutch lol.
Why da faq did he buy this to do this chit I will never know.
He trail rides it a lot but just entered this for fun
I wish Yamaha would just do a cvt already.
Hard day at work?????? LOL !!!!
Pooparis? Really?
yamahas first sport sxs and they shit the fuckin bed lol. plus a manual like give your head a shake yammy.
Lol...haters. Let me guess you have a Polaris. I think people who talk shit are either 1) jealous or 2) scared. To each their own. Don't like it? Then don't buy one. No need for you to voice your opinion if you do not have valid input
+bp969 1. Definitely not jealous of a Yamaha 2. Scared? Haha I don't think so and it's just the truth there garbage for everything but trail/racing which they do very well in. Just not built like the other "Sport" SxS's.
rzr the top
Oh - lessons please, thats painful to watch..
This driver is stupid ! Can't mod or change that
That's weak
RZR is better
like 1
junk!!
...overrated crap...
