Wow! These people know nothing about Harfoots! Or Hobbits in general for that matter. Have you really read the books?
Edit. I'm adding the quotes in, since there is now a lot of confusion, thanks to Amazon.
There were three types of Hobbits: Harfoots, Stoors and Fallohides. "The Harfoots were browner of skin, smaller, and shorter, and they were beardless and bootless; their hands and feet were neat and nimble; and they preferred flat lands and riversides."
"...They were the most inclined to settle in one place, and longest preserved their ancestral habbit of living in tunnels and holes." LOTR. Prologue.

The skincolor-change, which is only a small part of the stupid changes they seem to have made, is important. Why? Becouse it will break immersion. Tolkiens world is so great becouse he made it feel so real. And that is the goal of fiction; to feel real. How you achieve that? With rules. Every world has to have rules, and they should be strictly followed. Now, a black dwarf or elf or human or hobbit could make sense within the rules of Tolkien's world. The problem is, it is most likely not going to happen. The diversity quota will be filled, but integrating it into the world, which would take actual effort, will be forgotten. And it will break immersion. And together with all the other inconsistent, unexplained stuff, it will make me unable to enjoy the show.
Why do I think this will happen? Becouse modern adaptation and even Amazon itself has a track record of doing changes to fit their politics, and "forgetting" to actually make those changes fit seamlessly into the world. Just look at the Witcher, they could have done so much interesting storytelling with diversity, like how different races of a dieing world banded together to invade their new world, and solved their issues or turned on each other after winning, or there could be a plotline about the supressed black elves who decided to band together with the also supressed black humans and made some better off kingdom together. They would be very racist against others, somewhat rightfully so, too, a bit like Wakanda. Anyway, it could have been done amaizingly, if they wanted diversity. Instead, we got random diverse people who are just magically there, with nobody acknowledging their differences, in a very freaking racis world. Right. Brilliant writing.
As for Amazon, just look at the Wheel of Time series. They changed one of the core points of the books becouse politics, but then acted like it did not massively change the whole story. I mean, if the Dragon can be a women, than the whole "saves the world and destroys the world" and the guaranteed madness stuff is invalid, becouse a woman dragon would be just a stronger magic user. And this also destroys the whole magic system, by the way. We can also talk about the writers's self-made storys here. It was a hard task to choose what to cut from WOT, becouse most things are important. What did the writers do in their infinite wisdom? They deleted more material just so they could fit in their own shitty storylines.
So, as above explained, I have every reason to be very doubtful about this series, given that it has already presented most of the early signs I intentionally ignored with WOT.

And neither do thousands of fans. What I hate is people who can't even begin to write something like this putting in their own crap. And it's not petty to remark on something that is clearly against the rules of culture. This is not the world of today, this is Middle Earth. And Galadriel never fought in a battle in the first age or 2 that was her brothers or her husband. This nonsense that Hollywood keeps trying to sell, women with swords, has to stop. Women are stronger in battle than men. What a load of crap.

@@paintangel13 i hope you kept this level of criticism when you saw galadriel fighting sauron in The Hobbit films. it’s all creative liberties and peter jackson never received this level of criticism because he had a whole scene of galadriel in a battle, or crating an entire physical eye on the top of a building, or had saruman killed off in a totally different way then in the books. he may have received some criticism but it was forgiven because it made total sense in the reality that he was making a film adaptation for general audiences as well as tolkien fans and the story was amazing and done well. so if this show is done amazingly and turns out great and tells a great tolkien story are you going to still keep up this level of pessimism just because it isn’t the nostalgic world that peter jackson made that you are still biased for? every has different visions while still respecting the source material.

@@kikebautista2110 ok answer me this is Celeborn Falmari or Sindar? Where does Gil-galad fit in the family tree? Even Tolkien change his mind all the time. I'm sorry to tell you but NEWS FLASH The Silmarillion was never trully written. All we have is his draft put together by his son and he even invented part to finished to narative.... and also this is Second Age most of what we know about it is bullet point facts..... so YOU ACTUALLY DON'T KNOW ANYTHING YOUSELF. Im not telling your point are not valid but I just want to point out that their is no true CANON except Lord of the Rings and the Hobbit
