    I've never forgotten this game. I have such fond memories of playing this s*** out of this game. I only had about five games for the original Xbox when I first got it and this is one of them and I loved it. The story the setting everything as a 13-year-old teenager loved it was great. I'd love to get a copy and replay it

    There's a great 'chunky' look to X-Box games from this era I think is really appealing, even more so than a lot of modern 'realistic' looking games.

      Somehow, the 6th gen graphics work better than 7th, 8th, or 9th for me. Probably because art direction took front stage

      I feel the same. And it also helps there's absolutely no online stuff to deal with. I love collecting for the OG Xbox. The games look great on a CRT or with component cables and Retrotink 4K on modern TV's.

      Hardware limitations forced developers to get creative. Nowadays devs most of the time don't even know what to do with the vastly abundant resources and more advanced technology in their hands.

    I’ll never forget the memories with this game, definitely wasn’t perfect but it had so much potential i’d love to see a miraculous remake someday if possible. Ended up buying it years later again for my newer OG Xbox. Always loved the settings and atmosphere it was pretty unique, wish they had more time with making it.

    It's funny how you recently made this video and I recently remembered playing the absolute shit out of this game. It's like we have a collective generational memory that causes us to think of things at the same time.
    Anyways, thanks for the video; good stuff.

    Working on a game store during the era This was released... This was one that sat on shelves for a long time. I ignored it, and I know many others did. Shame it wasn't really worth while. The cover art, title and screenshots looked bland. I don't think I've heard anybody praise this game, beyond the point of mediocre. Thanks for diving in and providing a review for this. I hope you cover some of the later era Xbox titles as well.

    Great, fair reivew! Yeah, you got the same experience I got when playing it I think, lol.
    It really sucks because, y'know, with the Jedi Knight pedigree - and I loves me some Dark Forces 2! - I wanted this to play _at least as_ well. Plus the whole "SilkPunk" future-Asian aesthetic is totally my bag; it's why I remember Tao Feng to this day, and was so bummed that Jade Empire's proposed sequel, "Revolver" never came out.* I remember looking forward to playing this back in the day, never seeing a copy in stores and never getting around to it until I got that modded Xbox, and I was really hoping that it was *unfairly* forgotten - Lord knows, journos crapped on Azurik like there was no tomorrow, but that game totally surprised me with how completely fine it is and pretty fun if not for some aimless wandering (and _even then,_ that wasn't unusual in terms of level designs for the time, and there's some comfort there if you're in the mood to turn off your brain and explore for an afternoon). But nah, New Legends definitely disappointed me. Best to just ignore this and play Magatama on the big green machine instead for some quality hack-and-slash Asian fantasy action.
    * - side note: if you're interested in that, there's an ex-Bioware programmer and producer named Mark Darrah who has a RUclips Channel that covers it all in GREAT detail, including loads of concept art and game design. Take a look: ruclips.net/video/6mfCIcx0Rjw/видео.html

    This game has pride of place atop the game shelf so I can easily glower at it every time I walk past.
    I am actively angry with this game.
    At first I was annoyed that you were being so fair with it, but I realised that your take was 100% on point.
    I was pissed at this game because I sat down with the manual first and got engrossed in the silly narrative and premise, made up my mind that I was going to make a point of enjoying it and appreciated whatever it turned out to be, even if it wasn't amazing.
    Even with that attitude it still refused to be even remotely entertaining.
    What a complete waste of life for everyone that worked on it.
    It reeks of a cool idea that had a bunch of early energy and enthusiasm from the team, but over time they got bored and just made sure they shipped something.
    I would play through the entirety of Driv3r before I ever let this disc touch my Xbox again.

    Thank you, I tried to remember the name of this game back when you put out the Xbox launch games video and I failed to. I'll add it to the list of games I'm trying to track down.
    I only remember trying this game at a local non corporate game store that closed down years ago. I don't recall buying it, but I could be wrong.
    I tend to go more for FPS games on this console. Played through Shadows Ops Red Mercury recently and thought it was fun.

    I think the game deserved a remake fixings a lot of its flaws gotta remember it started development 30 years ago even before xbox specks were fully known by many developers so they armed for saga level, id say it was a great concept and could of used more recognition i remember getting my mum to buy me it along with several other titles I've forgotten with time

    I remember this game from when it came out but I was never really interested in it because I thought it looked bland. Sounds like I wasn’t far off the mark lol.
    I will say though, just going off of what you said and showed in the video, it almost sounds like the game was ridged to market halfway through development. It’s a shame that they shut down after this.

    • @campxbox
      @campxbox  8 месяцев назад +2

      Yeah it being rushed was a major part of it. With some time and love the concept could have worked. I think they could have made some good stuff and I would have really liked to see them take a stab at Sam & Max.

      @Gruntvc 8 месяцев назад

      @campxbox, Unfortunately, that's the case for many launch games. Definitely the case for the original Timesplitters on PS2. It was rushed to meet the launch unlike the way better Timesplitters 2 and especially Future Perfect.

    • @barry-allenthe-flash8396
      @barry-allenthe-flash8396 8 месяцев назад

      Well, that has nothing to do with this. But I'm a fan of WET too - not nearly enough games out there mix up melee combat with gunplay well, and none do it like WET with the great combat sandbox design and all your traversal abilities.
      You might want to give *Wanted: Dead* a shot, but it's one of those games that's kinda rough and doesn't give a great first impression; you gotta play it for a little bit and try to approach a few different ways before it clicks sometimes. So it's kinda divisive. Look up some critic reviews then look up some user reviews: people who hate it really hate it, people who love it really love it. I loved the combat but it's still rough (though it got a big update _recently_ - over a year since it launched - that apparently added a lot of polish including some new checkpoints so hopefully it's less frustrating now)
      And check out this game SPINE too. That's coming from the developer behind the Shadow Fight games on mobile, but it looks insane. Another one that blends melee and gunplay and should be pretty fun when it comes out: ruclips.net/video/j89jCL-a0zM/видео.html
