I just wanna take time out to thank you very much for sharing this fantastic video. It brings back memories from O’Hare Airport. My father used to work for United Airlines and I was very blessed to be able to travel but also go to the airport and hang out with my father he would take me out sometimes to the airport and I was able to see the airplanes close-up. Plane spotting was wonderful back then because you had different aircrafts DC10, L1011, 72 7, 707 and many more and to see a lot of the greater airlines that no longer exist today it’s very sad to think that they all have passed into history Continental airlines , TWA air Italia,, eastern Airlines MexicanaAirlineso many others thank you for the memories
The "Tulip" livery from Saul Bass was by far United's best livery. My first airplane ride in 1977 was on a UA 727-200 in that livery, I remember taxing around ORD and seeing a lot of "Friendship" liveries mixed in with this one.
Great memories! O'Hare terminal 2 was home to Eastern, Continental, and Northwest Orient, Ozark, and North Central Airlines. Occasionally Braniff... All defunct or swallowed up long ago. Lol Great video, thank you for posting!
15:44 is Hawker Siddeley HS.748 N748LL operated by the regional airline Air Illinois, likely off to St Louis MO, and destinations south on its the intrastate Illinois network. This aircraft sadly crashed 10/10/1983 as flight UX710 from Chicago Meigs Field to Carbondale via Springfield, killing all 3 crew and 7 passengers. Shortly after departing Springfield’s Capital Airport the crew lost both electric generators, the crew continued the flight on Battery power but didn’t reduce load enough or attempt to divert to any of the multiple suitable Airfields en route. Eventually the batteries drained completely shortly before arriving in Carbondale and the aircraft lost all instruments in IMC. Subsequently the aircraft crashed near Pinckneyville IL, with the loss of all on board.
@5:04-lsten to those JT9D's ring at about 2.0 EPR. GE CF-6's have a bit different sound to them at power-bit more "burly". Rolls RB-211's-IMO-the quietest of them all. Smooth.
Was the United orange/blue stripes livery current from the time of the very first 747s? That still looked modern even into the 90s (in contrast to TWA)
Most airlines that operated the 747 have now retired it, and those that have not are in the process of doing so. The biggest aircraft that the three remaining US airlines have is probably the 777, or triple 7. That is about as wide as the 747, but about 20 feet shorter, with no upper deck. The only other double decker aircraft ever produced was the A380 Airbus, which was not in production very long, so will obviously never be acquired by American, United, or Delta Airlines, the only 3 remaining US major airlines.

The ATC ground controls segment is priceless!! Incredible high quality video!!
Would love to see UA revive the Saul Bass livery, in some form (like an updated version), with the tulip.
United Stars and Bars livery was awesome

Wow! Did not know any of this, thanks for that bit of history!
Christmas present part 2. thanks!
Never knew that the "Tulip" UAL livery was actually called CS - California Sunshine. Thanks for that tidbit and for the great footage.
Actually the official name was the Saul Bass livery, CSS caught on during so California promo of sorts.
As a FAA former controller, this was wonderful. Also , great period music. Thanks
FAA! And controller? Major kudos to you man, excellent contribution to society!
@@Starboard76 Thank You
I think the first United Jumbo (in intro) was from "Koyaanisqatsi", and the airport was LAX. Excellent series and footage collection!!
1:43 dang birds
Great stuff

"battle ship grey," my favorite (except for the small out of proportion tail logo)
Been to ORD on many occasion before 2004

Looks like the 60s through the 1980s??
What airline is that after the KLM clip? 11:39
The DC-10? SAS
@AndreiTupolev They had a DC-10???
@1_over_9 they had 12 in fact. Retired them around the beginning of the 1990s
@@AndreiTupolev And what kind of 747 is the KLM then?
@1_over_9 KLM looks to be PH-BUD, a 747-200
And of coures-@ 17:00 or so-an F-Bomb. Whistle Pig. Good 'ol Fokker F-27 of Britt .
Love Olympic Airways
Lufthansa arriving from Germany & Mexican a taking off to Mexico.😁
Mexicana
Northwest Orient taking off to Asia, but who knows if Tokyo, Seoul or Manila?😁
Or Hong Kong?😁
How about a new segment? Triholer tuesday. 😂😂
"Three holes, no waiting!" - Little Rubber Girl by Frank Zappa..... Sorry, I couldn't help myself.....
UAの747クラシックのカラーの変遷や旧MDCロングビーチ工場でのAAとUAのDC-10の揃い踏みが印象的である!
ありがとうございます。オヘアで以前の 747 デザインを入手できたらもっと嬉しかったでしょう。
No Piedmont?
what year?
I loved my coal power plants
I work for a Canadian airline and I'm not interested in flying on the modern jetliner. They are all boring as hell and essentially all the same.
Other than to waste time, what is the point of this video?
Clearly, you hold no attachments whatsoever to the 'original Jet Age generation' nor admiration of it.
This is purely for those who do.
We could ask the same of your comment? What is the point?
Why did you bother watching it, then, if it seems not to interest you? I presume that you were not compelled to watch it
Find me 21 minutes and 27 seconds on today's television that is more satisfying than this to watch. You can't. This is fantastic stuff!
