Genuinely man, when i was younger and worked at retail and fast food I wanted to cut people breaks all the time. Though I knew something like this would happen if I did. When I use to work at foodlion I would give out free mvp cards savings, until one day manager told me to stop. Next thing I know, the people who I would normally give it to would become upset because I was literally not allowed to.
So I used to work at an amusement park as a summer job between semesters, as a ride attendant who both operated and scanned wristbands. Our policy is that they NEED a wristband, and although infants do get free wristbands, they're also required to have one (which only allows them on the two rides without height sticks). It hurts the soul to deny people and make people miserable when our job is to try and bring smiles, but while we try to be as understanding and helpful as possible, we CANNOT bend the rules for ANYONE. ESPECIALLY where safety is concerned. So for a specific example, this lady came once and grilled the hell out of me because I wouldn't let her infant child on, but one of my coworkers had supposedly mistakenly let that lady bring her kid onto a much more dangerous ride, and it therefore had set a precedent that her child could be allowed on other rides as well. I assume she had either bullied them into submission or slipped past them, and they didn't have the heart to try and bring it up, being new and all. It gave the woman more fuel to the fire and man was she out to ruin me for daring to try and explain policy and help her understand what my job is and what she can and cannot do with the infant wristband. Our rules becomes irrelevant to customers like these the moment we dare to bend them, and the people it affects the most are the others around. It sucks so much.

I worked at Starbucks for 6 years- the amount of people that would end up getting their regular baristas in trouble because they didn't get something that was normally given to them on the DL was wild. And these were people that knew they were being given things in secret. It was wild. All because they didn't get a free refill, or actually got charged for the flavor that they wanted to add. Like zero issue ratting out the people that were consistently nice to them.
Yep. And this is exactly why the manager in this video acted the way she did. It doesn’t take long working this sort of job to learn that unfortunately, you’re usually better off not bending the rules for people.
Some people take advantage of the kindness and start seeing it as expectation. I used to work at popeyes and a guy wanted a chicken sandwich that was 4 dollars but forgot his card at home. I offered to cover it since it was a 4 dollar sandwich and felt bad. When I told him I would be covering the food, he said “sweet, well in that case…” and started ordering a fuck ton of food. I agree it is the worst and you feel a bit betrayed too. You did them a favor by giving them a little perk. Then they repay you by ratting you out and getting you in trouble.
I worked several fast food drive thru jobs. A component easily forgotten with these sorts of customers is: not only do you have to deal with the first inconsolably/rude customer; everyone else down the line in the drive thru assumes incompetence on the workers and are also upset about the long times(naturally so). Once had an old couple loose it on me and throw shit at me because of the long wait time, which also added to the longer time. Without realizes or wanting to hear the customers above did the same, all because we had a shortage of an item and couldnt get it from our warehouse. This is a mean take but: I find it pathetic how easy a minor inconvenience totally unravels some people, while others, although annoyed/saddened, find an alternative and continue with their day
As a McDonalds employee, if this was recent, the worker likely refused because corporate McDonalds chain restaurants have been cracking down on not offering items that cannot physically be typed into the system. Usually, someone can order a side of anything (like pickles-which has no button in the system) by pressing the "tartar sauce" button or the "ask/me " button. McDonald's has been enforcing its employees to NOT do this anymore. There's no physical button for whip cream unless you order a smoothie or any of the mcafe items, so none of the employees can physically do what he's asking for unless they wanna get fired.
Tbf you could probably fill a pup cup without anyone noticing or caring. Unless the manager has a HUGE stick up their ass. When I work at BK I would give things to dogs even though it "wasnt allowed". Just depended on the manager. Also it helped that I didnt care if i lost my job at BK. Not saying you have to do the pup cup just that you probably could in most cases.
yeah, when i worked there we couldn't even mix the slushies even though there was a button to mix them since apparently you can't ring up both flavors or something
This is why people cant have nice things. Someone at some point gave a little bit of cream in a cup at a fast-food outlet to be cute. It becomes popular as free gimmick thing to attract customers. 5 years later some people are like ' Dogs entitlement to a pup cup is in the Bill of Rights and not giving one when you ask is the same as a federal crime.'
It's just more proof social media has destroyed society to an irreversible extent. The over socialization of man has created the most narcissistic evil entitlement this universe will ever see. On the bright side we won't be around much longer as a species.
A lot of people haven't been told "no" as a kid and it shows. Now everyone else has to be the one to tell them that and deal with their literal fully grown manchild tantrum.
Sometimes it’s kind of fun tho. Ill see some people who look/sound like they were given everything to them growing up, so I tell them no just to get that whiny reaction out of them. Brings me joy in a way seeing an entitled prick get told no. Even more satisfying when you are the one doing it.

I would have just given them one if they weren't so disrespectful. They started shouting and getting all worked up and started saying stuff like "you're going to lose your job for this!". Because of how they were, we decided to cancel the transaction entirely and refused to serve them their items; they were told to leave and they eventually got escorted out by security. One time I was pulling up to a fast food joint after work and saw two cops, one leaving and one in the parking lot. When I started talking with the cashier, he told me they were out of some stuff which was cool, so I ask for something and it had one of the things he said was out but I was too tired to really notice.

When working in retail, I once had a customer act like this because they had to pay 10p for a bag (very standard in the UK in effort to prevent plastic waste). They demanded I give them one for free.
If you act like a disrespectful sack of crap, dont expect anyone to do you any favours. It was a joy refusing service and even better seeing them getting escorted out. Their attitude resulted in them leaving with nothing, and left me laughing about it for the rest of the day.
I've had people argue with me over the LEGALLY REQUIRED bag charge, in one case they had literally just walked out of their car to collect something, IDK maybe bring some bags next time?
I've also had the 'I spent X amount of money' argument, whoop de doo, tell that to your MP. Also it was only like £50, which is small by our standards.
On another occasion I had 'I work retail I know the rules'.....well she didn't, thanks to her I've literally read the gov uk page so that I can 100% make sure I can shoot down any such arguments.
Btw, none of these people were vulnerable or anything like that, just entitled.
I love them threatening to take your job because you were doing your job as told.
"You need to fire that employee they're over there...following your directions"
Dang the UK sucks
some stores will give you pocket change if you use your own bags, which is nice for all us who have our own. The amount of times a bag has torn and shit went rolling up under the seats. At least I never lost produce like apples or something, yikes
California has the 10 cents a bag law too , although most private owned establishments dont really charge for it anymore
The customer is not always right
I used to work at a Schlotsky's in a rich neighborhood. We took so much verbal abuse that the owner finally got sick of it and gave me (as co-manager) permission to react as I saw fit. I cursed out MANY a customer before kicking them out. I even jumped through the drive thru window with a giant bread knife when a customer threatened to kick my ass. That may sound insane, but only if you've never worked fast food. 25 years later I still have bad dreams about working at that place.
They're usually wrong, in fact.

So when I was a barista at Starbucks we made our own whipped cream and unfortunately sometimes we run out either because we run out of heavy cream in store or run out of the cannisters to make it. One time this happened and it was a car with 5 people in it, and we ran out of whipped cream 4 out of 5 drinks in. I apologized and let them know, and they proceeded to call me a racist. @@thecobaltcorvusFranchises can choose to participate or not in certain aspects. Like promotions. They can also choose to charge for waters and sauces etc. That also covers these so called "pup cups". They don't have to offer them.
Clearly you don’t know how that works
People are like this everyday to workers and it’s sad and sick. I worked at subway for a bit and people would film and make fun of me and other workers in the store. I got into 3 fights with customers over not having olives or something else that was out of our control. They expect any service worker to keep their nose in the dirt and “know their place” and it makes most of us sick seeing it lol
literally nobody cares😂
One time I was pulling up to a fast food joint after work and saw two cops, one leaving and one in the parking lot. When I started talking with the cashier, he told me they were out of some stuff which was cool, so I ask for something and it had one of the things he said was out but I was too tired to really notice. We laugh a little after a joke or two and I mention how some people get too worked up over places not having something to which the cashier said that the cops actually just had to remove someone causing problems because they were out of whatever it was she wanted.

I will forever and always assume that, when an establishment is out of something, it isn't the fault of the employee I'm talking to. If you're that bent out of shape over something being out of stock, you could always just...go somewhere else? Yup and I absolutely love that!! I work overnights at a gas station and have had a few times young people like to try to film their “prank” videos by trying to buy a bottle of alcohol for like 24 bucks and then pull out bags and bags of pennies…first time I carded them and he had a paper ID and our policy says we can’t accept paper ID’s because they can’t be scanned. The second time they came in and had a actual valid license and pulled out 2 ziplock bags and one grocery bag full of pennies and dumps them out while dickflute number 2 laughed in the background and I waited till they got to 10 dollars in pennies and then told them I can’t take all of them because this late I can’t get into the safe and they won’t fit in my register. The cocky guy then says well it’s legal tender and you can’t refuse money with this smirk on his face so I look defeated and start pressing buttons on my register but cancel the whole order and say well you are right I can’t refuse legal tender….however I can refuse service for any reason and now you can leave my store or I’ll let the police trespass you

As a former Starbucks worker, i hate the "unofficial item" culture that the company allowed to spread. We had a whole shadow-menu of additional drinks that people expected every employee to know despite it not being part of training, as well as constant gaming the system by adding tons of ingredients to drinks that weren't meant for them.

I sometimes get ice coffees from my local IGA (bigger one, they do quite a lot) and I was fine with waiting since the 3 employees who was up front didnt know how to make it, so they had to call the woman who was working in the back of the store. it wasn;t a shadow item but not something every employee knows how to make.
