CLIP DESCRIPTION:
Rocky (Eric Stoltz) gets a physical and Dr. Vinton (Andrew Robinson) hears about Rocky's "lionitis" for the first time.
FILM DESCRIPTION:
This is the true story of Rocky Dennis (Eric Stoltz), a personable young man suffering from "lionitis," a fatal disease which causes hideous facial disfigurement. The son of freewheeling biker Rusty Dennis (Cher), Rocky is accepted without question by his mom's boyfriends and cycle buddies, but treated with pity, condescension, and disgust by much of the outside world. The local high school principal tries to get Rocky classified as brain-damaged so he won't have to enroll the boy in his school, but Rusty fights for her son's rights with the ferocity of a mother lioness. Rocky makes friends easily both at school and at summer camp. He also falls in love with Diana (Laura Dern), a blind girl who cannot see his deformed countenance and is entranced by the boy's kindness and compassion. Now that he's got his own life in order, Rocky sets about to wean his chronically depressed mother from her drug habit. Mask is the sort of story that might have ending up wallowing in its own pathos had the acting, direction and scriptwriting (by Anna Hamilton Phelan) been anything less than very good. The film proved a much-needed financial success for director Peter Bogdanovich, though unfortunately it didn't come soon enough to stave off his declaring personal bankruptcy.

I’d hang with this kid!!! He’s got the chillest and funniest personality!
I REALLY adore this scene because doctors like the one in the white coat are unfortunately in the masses where are the doctor in the brown coat, are extremely rare gems. The ones that seem to really care about you as a person, as an individual. The ones that really believe in helping you get better by an means necessary. The ones that treat you like an actual human being!
Man, this is awakening. They're treating the person, but the other guy is treating the disease. It reminds me of that doctor-movie by Robin Williams.
I love that rocky doesn't blame his mother or father for what he has
I’ve never even heard of this movie, and RUclips is like, “Hey, check this out!”
Eric Stoltz is a phenomenal actor
RIP Steve James the doctor was 41 when he died in 1993
this guy seems cool as fuck id chill with him and not because of his face but because he seems mad cool
This movie taught me so much about compassion as a young boy. I watched it every time it came on HBO back in the 80's when I was a kid. Films like this should be shown to kids in school today, it is relevant and can still influence the way kids see the world and other people who might look or act "different". Rest in piece Rocky. <3 :)
Great movie! They don't make these kind of movies anymore. Nothing wrong with recent movies but I do hope the new generation will watch these type of movies from the past.

"Wow, I'm cured!"
Great casual relationship between Rocky and the staff. My favorite part of the movie.
He is so full of life and so positive living his life to the absolute highest point. He’s not letting his condition hold him back.
I am literally trying so hard to listen to what the nurse is saying but I keep getting distracted by Rocky's adorableness
I've seen this film numerous times, and even if I just watch a clip, my eyes immediately tear up. Few movies have this much heart.
He was such a beautiful soul. Never let his situation beat him down. Don't want to sound tacky but that's really inspirational. That confidence and attitude. Bless him. Wish he was still with us.
This kid has a great personality. Totally would hang out with him
