I think what is fascinating about Buddy Revell is that the whole movie is about misunderstood youth. Buddy isn't a bully at all. Buddy literally just wants to be left alone. Jerry spends the entire movie not leaving him alone. Not leaving him alone got him into the fight in the first place. Buddy, essentially, wanted to show everyone by beating Jerry's ass, that he wants to be left alone. Even sending someone to beat him up wasn't leaving him alone. Jerry planting a knife in Buddy's locker to get him expelled, wasn't leaving him alone. Throughout the movie you learn that Buddy loves to read. He's also brilliant, as he showed when they did the math problem in the principles office. And when Jerry tried to buy him off, he was disgusted that Jerry didn't even want to try, and couldn't imagine not being willing to face what was coming to him. This, when the guy Buddy punched out in the library was a good bit bigger than he was, and that guy, in that moment, was actually trying to be a bully. Buddy didn't hesitate one second to take on a bigger foe. And at the end, you learned Buddy was also a stand up guy giving the money back, and was proud of Jerry for the fight, even as three other people helped Jerry win. The very last scene, where everyone is spreading Jerry rumors on how crazy he is, was to tell us that we never knew who Buddy really was, but it wasn't the monster the students at the beginning were building him as, and most of it was likely bullshit.
Excellent analysis! Buddy technically really wasn't a bully at all & was very misunderstood. He never actually picked on anyone or went out of his way to start any fights or problems. His mantra was simple: Don't touch me, stay outta my way, & leave me alone & we won't have any problems. Break any of those rules & you're gonna have a problem....period. And the fact that he gave Jerry his money back after all that shows that he actually has some integrity & really wasn't the horrible monster & bully that he was made out to be. Glad someone else saw this as well! 💯💯💯
OMG. What movie where you guys watching? Buddy was the quintessential definition of a BULLY! Did you see the the beginning? Rooting for the bully is just another sign of how twisted the world is!
@@CliftonRouse I did see the beginning. All the stories about him? Did you notice at the end they were telling the same crazy type stories about Jerry? Idea being that most of the Buddy stories where either bullshit or embellished. When Jerry pissed him off, he had every opportunity to walk away before that. Buddy told him calmly he didn't want to talk to him. Jerry kept at it anyway and wouldn't leave him alone. Then called the story he was going to write about him a 'stupid little piece'. Buddy knew why he wanted to write about him, basically so he could be ridiculed and talked about behind his back more than he already was. Everyone already knew Buddy didn't like to be touched. Jerry touched him. Jerry basically begged to set Buddy off. Everything Buddy did in the movie was a self defense mechanism. Shit, even after Jerry pisses him off in the bathroom, plant a KNIFE in his locker, pays a bigger guy to bully Buddy, and then tries to buy Buddy off, in the fight Buddy STILL had to deal with Jerry's girl jumping in the way, his friend literally jumping on Buddy's back buying Jerry all kinds of time, and Jerry's sister helping him get the brass knuckles. And nothing happens at all if Jerry would have just left Buddy alone. That's not a bully.
You could say he wants someone to take the bully mantle from him so he can be left alone. He obviously has potential as a student but others have defined him as something else, and he can't escape from that identity. This movie reminds me of the movie "The Hitcher" (the original) as the bad guy in that film seems to be looking for the one who can relieve him of his misery. It's the same idea about an antagonist looking for a way out.
The 3 O'Clock High clip made me angry, cause a bully can't bully anyone of the ENTIRE school hates him. They'd all gang up on him and go mob justice on his ass.
Lol, what a grand and intoxicating innocence. In my day, when a bully beats up another person in front of everyone at school; besides the teachers, we all watched bc it was entertainment on a boring recess. Life is cruel, and no one is coming to your rescue. In fact, I particularly remember when the bystandards encouraged/egged on the fight and then nicked the kids' pocket change after he was down with a bloody nose.
There's a reason Romans paid to go to the Colliseum. That people pay to watch MMA and WWE fights. This is just the kid version. It's messed up but that's life.
Also missing the subtle detail that the kid didn't even have the nerve to tell him he got him the bedroll too late for his camping trip, the step-dad had to tell him. He doesn't trust or love him, he's terrified of him.

I was so small and pathetic as a child (had rare neo-natal disease and a series of huge operations) that I wasn't even worth bullying. No honour. But on the few occasions I did get into fights I was absolutely nasty. I certainly wasn't going to fight fair when so much smaller and weaker than everyone else.
One of my best 5th grade pals got picked up and dropped into a ice mud puddle by 3 bullies. In front of the whole class. I dropped my books on the ground and handed my desk partner my coat. The trio were all laughing about it when I came across the yard and lit into them (biggest one first, next closest within striking distance). The leader was backing up to give himself some room and glanced over his shoulder to see how far away the school building was. Wrong move as it gave me the seconds I needed to close that distance. When all the teachers came running out, they were still on the ground, trying to stand up. So, at the end of it all, the 3 got five day's suspension and a parent/teacher conference. And I can tell you, this was 1975 and even detention was harsh punishment. No, I didn't care about the odd looks on classmate's faces when I came in the door to class. I defended my friend.
3 O'clock High. I saw this scene when I was a little kid. I never forgot it, didn't know what the movie was, who was in it, or how to find it. This just made my day.
“4 kids beat me up and I went home and told my daddy. Know what he did?” “He made it all better?” “No! He kicked my ass!” Has got to be one of the most, THEE MOST, relatable things I’ve ever heard in a movie or real life. The single most relatable. Hell, my dad was the one who got me into my first fistfight. I was 6. True story. I remember it like it happened ten minutes ago.
@@Clutchnaldosiu 🤣 I did. Full transparency though, I was crying the whole time (I was like 6). The kids dad came outside and was yelling at my dad to get me off his kid, and my dad told the kids dad that he’d be next if he tried stopping the fight. For the sake of brevity, my dad wasn’t the friendliest looking guy, so that kids dad had to watch me beat up his kid while I cried the whole time. I didn’t want to, but he made me. I remember that like it happened ten minutes ago. Later in life before he passed away, i got home from a deployment and I asked him why he made me do that. “Because in life you’re gonna get picked on and beat on, and you’re either gonna take it and always get picked on or beat on, or you’ll start swinging and whoever is beating on you will stop. They don’t want to fight, they want a free lunch. Some people are the hammer, some people are the nail. Be the hammer.” He was an awesome dude, he was just a hard MFER. But it’s why I am what I am, and do what it is that I do, because he made me become the hammer. I just have incredible control over that now. Personally, in particularly violent circumstances, my heart rate barely even go up these days. But like Orwell said “people sleep peacefully in their beds at night because rough men stay awake ready to do violence on their behalf to protect their peace”. I haven’t slept in a long time. 🇺🇸
I remember being about older than six (after momma died) and getting in almost daily fights with a group of 4+ I don’t even think anybody knows that 😂 Not that I didn’t find some joy in it
The second one plays on the “blame the parents” argument. I agree with this 100%. If your kid has problems that you can’t seem to fix, you need to remove him from society AND THEN try and fix the problem.
This brings back memories, I was the bullied kid at school, I had the biggest Cinderella turnaround moment of my life when I beat the school bully the captain of the senior football team. Everyone was shocked that I did it, when the school bully showed up the next day with bruises and plaster, no one ever messed with me again. I know the fear and adrenaline of facing that moment just like in this vid, but my Karate teacher taught me well.
One time I beat up someone who punched me in the balls and I picked him up and had a wwe match with my bookbag as a belt. I taught those darn kids a lesson.
Growing up my dad teach me that no matter how strong/big your bullies No one could ever hold the pain of being bitten And yes... I always bit my opponent, use weapon, etc... I might be a coward but I'm the coward who wins
Yea If you are outmatched in strenght, the fight is already unfair, so it only makes sense to make it unfair in your favour Also depends on context of the situation. If I was in danger, I am fighting dirty, but if it's about "honor" in some way and it's fair in strenght, I'd prefer to stick to fairness. But just be how I was raised
@Hycix agreed, but for me it's for intimidation and self morals. You don't want to be known as the kid who bit someone or pulled their hair. That's lame and weird
3 o' clock high was a very underrated 80s film. Definitely one of my favorites! Richard Tyson played the ultimate bully, while Casey Siemaszko played the ultimate underdog. Awesome film!
One of the greatest comedies of the 80s, IMO. And, it perfectly illustrates the gladiatorial nature of schoolyard fights (from my youth) where a crowd instantly appears to cheer on winner and loser alike...just give them blood and violence!
My son had a friend in highschool who was very short and skinny. He got picked on all the time until my son put a "stop" to it one day. My son was 6'5" and 295 lbs at the time and a D1 Scholarship Offensive Lineman after highscool.
Love the step dad tried to change the topic from the missing shoes to the blood on Colin Ferrells sleeve. Not so subtly saying, "one way or another this conversation ends in blood."
I read it differently. I see a distinction between an action man and a sedentary man. The sedentary man uses labels and shame tactics to try and minimise the other, because he cannot prevail either physically or on merit. Could be 100% wrong but it’s an interesting back and forth, especially given the dad vs new dad layer.
Who the fuck cares what fingers you use? I use 3 different ways to show 3......last 3 fingers, thub and first 2 or first 3.........whatever I think first.......
I share movies from when I was a kid with my own kids; The Goonies, Better Off Dead, The Breakfast Club. Showed 3 O'Clock High to my daughter when she was in highschool. Had a free period one afternoon in one of her classes so she cast it from her phone for her classmates to watch. Was a big hit, apparently.
Doesn't always end with the good guy. High school in the 90s here. I was still a bully that had never been put in his place but oddly enough, I made good friends with the Magic the Gathering geeks. I even played with them, every lunch period and when I found out one of them got sh+t I'd go and give that guy a black eye. Other students quickly learned to just leave those two tables alone because I loved nothing more than harming jerks. I grew out of that phase eventually, worry not. The 90s were a different time.
Growing up in the 80’s and 90’s I went to 8 different schools. I would have to fight almost everyday and got my ass handed to me by the older brothers of kids I had beat up. Made me tough and to this day, i can hold my own. Life is a bully you need to beat up
Same, not as many schools, plenty of scraps though… Between that and an asshole stepdad Marine Corps. Bootcamp wasn’t very difficult. Being an understanding and empathetic husband and father takes a lot of effort everyday, though.
one of my favs is in HISTORY OF VIOLENCE...when the son gets even with his bully "u try to talk to them son not put them in the hospital" son: "it's the best thing anyone coulda done for him" lol
That last punch thrown by Jerry was incredibly therapeutic for any kid who'd been bullied in school. And I always liked that at the end, Buddy showed respect for Jerry after he stood up for himself. No warm feelings, but respect.
Note to others: when attacked, one way of surviving is to close the distance. This may seem counterintuitive, but it can give your assailant less time to react, then you can have your chance. Be careful though, if your opponent is more experienced than you, this could still be your downfall.

If only more people were like Buddy.
Buddy from 3"o clock is not a bully, he doesn"t bother anybody he just wants to be left alone.
The 3 O'Clock High clip made me angry, cause a bully can't bully anyone of the ENTIRE school hates him. They'd all gang up on him and go mob justice on his ass.
No they wouldn't
There's no such thing as the cliche general bully from hollywood. It's particular kids picking on particular other kids, nobody uninvolved cares.
Read up on he bystander effect.
0:00 Bad Santa
2:28 True Detective
6:02 3’oClock High
There are plenty of better "Bullies facing Justice" clips - but to your credit, your inclusion of Bad Santa speaks to your impeccable taste.
3 O'Clock High is a classic.
Second clip: Dad's a bully who cannot comprehend that he's doing tremendous harm to his child. Yes, the ends feel good. The means do terrible harm.
Absolutely flabbergasted that people are in here taking his side on this lol
Even out of context it's clear he's a complete fucking psycho lmao
Also missing the subtle detail that the kid didn't even have the nerve to tell him he got him the bedroll too late for his camping trip, the step-dad had to tell him.
He doesn't trust or love him, he's terrified of him.
Kids a pussy and should stand up for himself both to his dad and to his bullies
The face grab at 6:53 was impeccable 🤌🤌
She was devastated lol
1st one: Satisfying and funny
2nd one: Scary but reasonable
3rd one: The most realistic with a satisfying ending
most realistic?
The last scene towards the end where the bully is down and Jerry just casually drops the bully’s own brass knuckles on him is pretty badass
That's not what a fight looks like. 😅
At all.
Even for the 80's that was completely misdirected...
dumbest fight scene ever. how many time were people knocked out,, the a minute later looked fresh and clean. Terrible.
@@devarmont87it's like, a feel good 80s comedy bro you don't need to take it so seriously.
Arnold would have been mowed down in about 10 seconds at the end of Commando but I bet you let that shit slide so he gets to shoot the cool quad rocket launcher 😂😂
@@Batchall_Accepted firstly - I've seen 2 Arnie movies and commando wasn't one of them.. so I have no concept of this rocket shot you're on about.. but thank you for making a biased assumption about me, like a pleb would really ..how stoopid of you.
Secondly, I have every right to take every movie I see seriously (hence why I dont waste time with Arnie) and who are you to call me on that?

@@Batchall_Accepted My friend hates that movie, and said it's so bad. I responded: "Yeah that was the idea" 😂

Mine too 😍
Same omg so funny
@@randomguy3149Funny?!
That True Detective was
Straight BadAss!
The last guy knocked out half the planet before going down.
Bad Santa had a good heart… prove me wrong… lol
Colin Farrell. Incredible.👌
3 O'clock High. I saw this scene when I was a little kid. I never forgot it, didn't know what the movie was, who was in it, or how to find it. This just made my day.
“4 kids beat me up and I went home and told my daddy. Know what he did?”
“He made it all better?”
“No! He kicked my ass!”
Has got to be one of the most, THEE MOST, relatable things I’ve ever heard in a movie or real life. The single most relatable. Hell, my dad was the one who got me into my first fistfight. I was 6. True story. I remember it like it happened ten minutes ago.
Damn tough life. Did u start the fight
@@ClutchnaldosiuDad number two is the one who gets the prize 😅.
@@nameredacted1176 this sounds like a good movie . You have a nice life
I remember being about older than six (after momma died) and getting in almost daily fights with a group of 4+
I don’t even think anybody knows that 😂
Not that I didn’t find some joy in it
The second one plays on the “blame the parents” argument. I agree with this 100%. If your kid has problems that you can’t seem to fix, you need to remove him from society AND THEN try and fix the problem.
3o'clock High was such an awesome movie.
Yeah nobody believes you. Just had to stop by a month after you posted this to let you know.
Mr Miyogi huh
"3 O'clock High" such a great 80s movie.
One time I beat up someone who punched me in the balls and I picked him up and had a wwe match with my bookbag as a belt. I taught those darn kids a lesson.
No u didn’t bruh 💀
U sound like you’re 8
Wow ok
Never asked
@@Brandon..11 youre weird bruh you have no friends
Growing up my dad teach me that no matter how strong/big your bullies
No one could ever hold the pain of being bitten
And yes... I always bit my opponent, use weapon, etc... I might be a coward but I'm the coward who wins
Hey. You gotta do what you gotta do.
Yea
If you are outmatched in strenght, the fight is already unfair, so it only makes sense to make it unfair in your favour
Also depends on context of the situation. If I was in danger, I am fighting dirty, but if it's about "honor" in some way and it's fair in strenght, I'd prefer to stick to fairness. But just be how I was raised
Go for the crotch. Crush his balls under your foot, no one recuperates from that.
@Hycix agreed, but for me it's for intimidation and self morals. You don't want to be known as the kid who bit someone or pulled their hair. That's lame and weird
@Toastie415 better than using a knife.
Glad it was first on the list.
Bad Santa is a CLASSIC. 💯
I still remember watching it with my dad.. such a good film
And Casey went on to co-star in Young Guns as a character who was a boxing expert.
@@jameshorton7496 Also was one of Biff's cronies in Back to the Future! Great actor!
@@jameshorton7496correction, pugilist. Thank you.
My son had a friend in highschool who was very short and skinny. He got picked on all the time until my son put a "stop" to it one day. My son was 6'5" and 295 lbs at the time and a D1 Scholarship Offensive Lineman after highscool.
Learners should teach their children to be better.
Thank you!
Every fight scene my mind was singing the American Dad Stelio Contos, Stelio Contos jingle
@mikecornish2679 brilliant! lol

The first song really got me like “🐰🐻🐤🦊”
Yep.
FNAF is awesome. And don’t forget 🧁
"Or don't I don't care" is the greatest line ever.
Bully my son? Don't go there.
Ass-pen! Tony Soprano would have pummeled the father and knocked out some teeth!
Ray is the guy you😅 want to back you up but don't want to see at your door😅
DONT FUCK THIS UP MITCHELL had me dead
Colin fucking up being American by counting to 3 with his thumb as 1
Who the fuck cares what fingers you use? I use 3 different ways to show 3......last 3 fingers, thub and first 2 or first 3.........whatever I think first.......
As someone that was bullied in school as a kid I had to stand up for myself and 3 o’clock 🕒 high brought back memories how to deal with a bully
The best one of all is Ralphie taking care of business against the bully in "Christmas Story."
True detective is lit 😂
It’s funny what he to the kid bully 😂
I share movies from when I was a kid with my own kids; The Goonies, Better Off Dead, The Breakfast Club. Showed 3 O'Clock High to my daughter when she was in highschool. Had a free period one afternoon in one of her classes so she cast it from her phone for her classmates to watch. Was a big hit, apparently.
"Hand That Rocks the Cradle" came to mind first for me.
3'Oclock High is SO under-recognized. Great movie.
why is the white shirt guy looking sad all the time😂
Doesn't always end with the good guy.
High school in the 90s too... they were a very different time indeed. Love the twist on bullying here. Man, Magic was so big back then.
3 O'clock High was awesome cinematography.
3’Oclock High! Classic!!!!
Billy Bob hands down the best character actor of my time, thus far.
Aspen should have gotten a beating with that brass knuckle as well
Seeing his father protector get beaten down put the fear of G0d into the bully! I'll be back!
He was smart. He attacked the adult in the situation not a minor.
Three O'Clock High was one of my favorite movies back in the day 😂😂
Thar 3 O'Clock high scene is some of the funniest stuff ive ever seen
congrats on 1k!
I love how in the 3rd scene, everyone is motionless and mouths are closed yet there is a crowd cheering
I had forgotten about 3 o clock High. Damn blast from the past.
The fact that he's wearing the official 90's uniform, shirt over long-sleeve, in "Three O'Clock High" just makes it so much better for yours truly 😁
This is bs. The best bully scene ever is clearly at the end of Step Brothers
movies in the 80s.....so much fun
one of my favs is in HISTORY OF VIOLENCE...when the son gets even with his bully "u try to talk to them son not put them in the hospital" son: "it's the best thing anyone coulda done for him" lol
3 O'Clock High: best ventriloquist scene in cinematic history.
Also... That is a SEA of mullets.
That last punch thrown by Jerry was incredibly therapeutic for any kid who'd been bullied in school. And I always liked that at the end, Buddy showed respect for Jerry after he stood up for himself. No warm feelings, but respect.
That was awesome. I've never seen that first Santa clip, the second one I've seen a few times, the last one was a classic.
When Richard Tyson was in There’s Something About Mary 😂
6:58 (Sam Elliott voiceover) Y'see, folks, it ain't the size of the dog in the fight that matters, it's the size of the fight in the dog.

3 oclock high..a great movie…you must see it!
Note to others: when attacked, one way of surviving is to close the distance. This may seem counterintuitive, but it can give your assailant less time to react, then you can have your chance. Be careful though, if your opponent is more experienced than you, this could still be your downfall.
They mainly thrive on intimidating. You've now taken that away from him.
