Oh man I didn't expect to cry but I can't help it. I'm so happy to have this exist. And to know for future little girls they will feel better about who THEY are. ❤😢
I am usually against race-swapping, especially in films with a historical genre that deals with certain ethnic identities like Greek, German, or Chinese, or something that belongs to a certain period, but this is The Little Mermaid. Ariel is supposed to look different from those who live on land, and also Ariel lives under the sea, she can look anything, she can be green, blue, whatever kind of color. Her being black shouldn't be a big deal. I know the complaints come from the look we were used to watching when growing up, but people shouldn't judge her just because she's black. She's as Ariel as Jodi Benson did, her voice sealed the deal for her, I couldn't see any other person doing Ariel at this point. Looks wise, Sadie Sink is good but can she sing? Ariel's most unique asset is her VOICE, not her looks. That's the truth.
Race swapping iconic characters is NOT OKAY. Imagine they turned Elsa from Frozen Asian or black. Or Tinkerbell black. Or princess Aurora black. Or Cinderella black or Asian. It is all possible, race does not matter with those princesses. But you sure as hell change their iconic looks. Remember, princess Ariel was created by a Danish author. He wants her to be white. She had beautiful elegant red hair, green tail. Plus Halle doesn’t look pretty for a princess. The only good thing about her is her voice, but even her voice doesn’t sound good in ‘part of your world’ (Disney released the full version). Her voice sounds too harsh for a Disney princess
@@truehappiness4U I'm also against race swapping, but historically speaking, Hans Christian Andersen did not specify that the Little Mermaid had to be a redhead or had green tail or be a white woman. That red hair we know was a creative liberty done by Disney based on Alyssa Milano's look, so they can do whatever the heck they want with the "Ariel" character. Yes, the writer was a Danish man, but technically speaking the Little Mermaid is not supposed to be Danish because she does not live on a land that's considered a territory of Denmark. She lives under the sea, and just because she lives under sea does not necessarily mean she has to be white. Andersen did not even specify which area of the world Ariel's kingdom is. It's actually more meaningful to depict her as having a different skin tone because she's meant to be different to the people in Prince Eric's kingdom which have European features. Ariel is not the same as Elsa and Anna who are specified as Nordic and Northuldran (Sami), nor Moana who was Polynesian, nor Merida who was Scottish, nor Belle who was French, nor Mulan who's Han Chinese, nor Tiana who's African American. Ariel was a sea-creature who's supposed to look different to the people on land, and I believe having dark skin in a white-majority Kingdom is a good visual representation of what it is to be "different".

I've now seen the movie twice since it finally came out in Japan, and I just have to say it: Halle Bailey IS Ariel. It's not just her siren-like voice - I mean, in the film, she is genuinely Ariel. Her curiosity, her sweetness and innocence. She's adorable, too. You feel so heartbroken for her during certain scenes and just want to root for her the whole time. "The Little Mermaid" was never my favorite of the animations, but 100%, it has become my favorite of the live action remakes. This movie is just a masterpiece.
P.S. I'm a Melissa McCarthy fan, which is the main reason I wanted to see this film. (Also saw Jonah Hauer-King's noteworthy performance in "Song of Names", and was interested in seeing him as Prince Eric.) I ended up euphoric to find that the entire cast in the film are absolutely, 100% THE characters. ❤
I’ll admit I was abit iffy when I heard melissa was cast for Ursula, probably because I already had Queen latifah, Ginger minj and jinkx monsoon set in my mind to play the role, but omg once I saw Melissa in her Ursula get up and heard the way she spoke in the trailer 😍 I was sold! I forgot that actors can change their voices 😂🤦🏻♀️ I had absolute no issue with Halle playing Ariel 😍 simply because I’ve already heard her voice before so I knew she would kill this!!! SHE IS ARIEL 😍 Ariel is her voice! Halle has THE VOICE 😍 cannot wait for this to drop 👏🏻😍
Halle is a beautiful human being and I literally cannot imagine her not getting a huge Disney princess role, not only she can sing but have a pretty personality and a wonderful heart. She deserves every bit of the love she’s receiving from this role, she put on a damn good show as a representation of Ariel ❤
If I could tell Ms. Bailey _one_ thing, it would be the memory I have of what's probably the biggest uproar over casting before she was overwhelmed with the shameful backlash around hers. The public was vicious beyond words months before we'd have any idea what they'd even look like as the iconic character. Virtually nobody could understand why _they_ were chosen and I didn't envy the pressure they were under. Quite tragically, the actor didn't live long enough to see the public's stunned reaction to their actual performance. They even won an Oscar, accepted by their grieving family. The actor's work in the role almost nobody had confidence in them playing is now the _definition_ of iconic and those that come after will feel his performance is how high the bar is set for _them._ And it will indeed be almost unheard of to top it. We can only hope he's aware of just how wrong everybody realized they were to judge him unfairly. We can only hope others, like you, will take comfort in the fact that one of the greatest performances in film came from such pressure. That actor was Heath Ledger. The character: The Joker. The film: The Dark Knight. Break a fin, kid! You're going to have the world in your hands.
I hope Halle knows that we are going to support her in this film. I love her so much. What she is doing for my generation is amazing and spectacular. She is our princess and a beautiful human being.
So excited to see this!!! I love the cast!!! However, I wish that Javier Bardem, Jonah Hauer King, and Jacob Tremblay will be along the for press tour as well!!!❤❤
I’m calling it: Melissa McCarthy is gonna get an Oscar nomination. That tiny clip of Ursula in the trailer is enough to know that mama KILLS this role.
Saw it and did not expect it to be so Amazing! I just wasnt sure how the story would transition to real people. It was so so so well done, to the "T"!!! I had not heard about it at all except my Grandaughter (13) was excited about it. So happy we took the whole family including my 23 year old Son and he enjoyed it too. 🙌
Great interview. I love each of them separately but together, this is going to be great. Been so awesome to see the growth of Daveed and Halle as well.
I never was interested in watching the little mermaid until this one came out, I can't wait until it hits the theaters, this movie is definitely going to be a block busters! 🧜🏿♀️ ❤
I know a lot of ppl took issue with the fact that shes black playing Ariel. I was very excited and loved the idea. King Tritan had daughters of different ethnic backgrounds so i had no worries about Ariel being black. My concern...... was the hair color..... I love Ariel's red hair and wanted it to be super bright!!! But it wasnt. Then she gets her legs and shes human, her hair looks brighter, reddish!!!! I loved it!!!! I think they all did an amazing job. The movie stands on its own. Beautifully made!!!
I am so excited for this movie! I'm so glad that Disney casted with heart in mind because Halle Bailey admits this kind, loving kindred spirit that Ariel just bursts with and then not to mention her voice perfection
It is not Disney’s responsibility to represent EVERYONE. Each demographic should be able to create and tell their own stories and promote their own standard of beauty. As blk wmn we have to either rely on ourselves for validation or on non blks to highlight our beauty in a major way. Blk men have dropped the ball in uplifting the image of Blk Women and girls.

I love this cast they are so supportive of each other and I know that they will do a great job in their roles! 😊
SHES GONNA SPIN GOLD AFTER THIS ROLE ❤
I cannot explain how excited I am for this movie 😩
Great interviewer Made sure to hold a conversation with everyone.
I’m so excited to watch this movie
😭😭💕💕
Her voice is so sweet. Just like in the Disney animation.
I need a 1 hour long interview with the cast
Me too!
Halle is a beautiful human being and I literally cannot imagine her not getting a huge Disney princess role, not only she can sing but have a pretty personality and a wonderful heart. She deserves every bit of the love she’s receiving from this role, she put on a damn good show as a representation of Ariel ❤
I feel like Melissa makes everyone else comfortable ❤
Cant listen to her singing.. without tearing up 🥹🤎 I cant wait 🧜🏽♀️
Melissa is perfect for Ursula !
Man this panel is so diverse! Love it!
How good is the interviewer? Melissa is everything, and Halle is a natural princess...
The interviewer was great!
Much thx.
Bless your heart
I hope Halle knows that we are going to support her in this film. I love her so much. What she is doing for my generation is amazing and spectacular. She is our princess and a beautiful human being.
Halle is Ariel. 🌟 This is going to be a beautiful classic
So excited to see this!!! I love the cast!!! However, I wish that Javier Bardem, Jonah Hauer King, and Jacob Tremblay will be along the for press tour as well!!!❤❤
i will be watching every junket for the film. this was such a beautiful start to their press run.
They all going to be great in it can't wait especially Halle and Melissa wish jonah was there
Halle is a gem 💎
Yup 💯 💎 same thing I said
I’m calling it: Melissa McCarthy is gonna get an Oscar nomination. That tiny clip of Ursula in the trailer is enough to know that mama KILLS this role.
Halle is Ariel. No crying from y’all
Saw it and did not expect it to be so Amazing! I just wasnt sure how the story would transition to real people. It was so so so well done, to the "T"!!! I had not heard about it at all except my Grandaughter (13) was excited about it. So happy we took the whole family including my 23 year old Son and he enjoyed it too. 🙌
The chemistry of the cast is really felt. That is a really good sign.
Ron Marshall calling up Halle, Jonah and Melissa by their character name to is seriously the cutest thing 🧜🏽♀️🫶🏾
Loving Halle's trousersuit
I WANNNT ITTTT
So Halle should also be cast as Janet Jackson in her biopic if they ever do one. I can definitely see it.
Yes
I can’t wait to see Halle and Melissa❤
She is so sweet. She IS Ariel. Love Halle
Great interview. I love each of them separately but together, this is going to be great. Been so awesome to see the growth of Daveed and Halle as well.
Y’all remember when Ursula took her voice and she was hitting then notes?!? I can’t wait to see what Halle does with that scene 😭
Love that bit, aaah aaaaaah
Her little voice ! ❤️
She’s so classy perfect choice for the role

Awww they’re all such a wonderful cast!! I’m so excited to see this movie!!
Okay so im not the only one who Halle makes cry when she sings❤thats good to know 🥴
I never was interested in watching the little mermaid until this one came out, I can't wait until it hits the theaters, this movie is definitely going to be a block busters! 🧜🏿♀️ ❤
Shill
This was great! Jacqueline is such a phenomenal interviewer. Now I gotta look up all her other interviews
Thank you!
She’s perfect omfg
So excited for this!
I'm so happy for Halle, she's an actual angel.
Halle’s voice in genera is Ariel. She sounds exactly like her!
Halle comes off as the sweetest warmest soul
It is not Disney’s responsibility to represent EVERYONE. Each demographic should be able to create and tell their own stories and promote their own standard of beauty. As blk wmn we have to either rely on ourselves for validation or on non blks to highlight our beauty in a major way.
Blk men have dropped the ball in uplifting the image of Blk Women and girls.
She was a great interviewer
i dont think ive EVER seen an interview where they dont ask halle or chloe what advice beyonce has given them
