There were a number of Godzilla comic releases this year that I considered covering... had I actually read them. There's another project in the works where I talk about every English Godzilla comic, so, uh, look forward to whenever that behemoth of a project is done.

New to your channel and I like what I see. Hope you get more likes and subs. I've been writing my own fan-fic version of Godzilla vs. Megalon during his year. It's titled, It's called Godzilla vs. the Kabuton Brothers: The Undersea Kingdom's SOS Strategy.
Instead of one, there are two Megalon's. Both are robot's representing Seatopia’s ancient guardians from long ago. I also changed Megalon from Kabuton because I felt this new name fits better. One of them causes a volcanic eruption and earthquake on Monster island, sending the monsters fleeing except for Godzilla. After a battle, Godzilla chases Megalon to Japan. Goro Ibuki and his younger brother Hiroshi Ibuki see the second Megalon after it drains the water from Lake Kitayama. Instead of being villain's, the Seatopian’s are victims of the nuclear tests and help Goro improve Jet Jaguar. I also improved and expanded on Seatopia's history and cut out the part about them being allies with the M Space Nebula aliens since it's never explained how they came to know each other. So no Gigan in my story. Sorry.
I made Goro and Hiroshi brothers instead of friends in the movie. I also added in a new character such as Einus. She is a Seatopian princess who helps them against Ana, another Seatopian who is controlling the Megalon Brothers. In the film there was no given reason why JJ was created. But now there is. In a flashback, you learn that JJ was a project by Goro and Hiroshi's parents for the propose of fighting monsters until they are both killed during Gigan and King Ghidorah's rampage through Tokyo in Godzilla vs. Gigan. It's not the most original idea. You see it in other tokusatsu shows at that time, but what else are you going to do with a giant robot. Let it fight monsters, no duh!
Jet Jaguar is later upgraded in the story as an advanced A.I. and can talk just like in the Godzilla SP anime. He has new abilities, ranging from a finishing move called the Plasma Beam he fires from his wrists when he crosses them in a X fashion. Jet Jaguar can also fire a taser-like attachment from is right arm and a deploy a pepper-spray from his left arm. To freeze his enemy’s, Jet Jaguar can shoot a liquid nitrogen spray from his mouth.
So there! I just fixed the movie! What do you think? Do any of you have any ideas that can improve Godzilla vs. Megalon? Let me know by replying please.

FYI The Shin "Trilogy" actually has a FOURTH entry that many wouldn't consider. It is actually the anime Rebuild of Evangelion. In Japan, it's titled as Shin Evangelion. It's officially part of the Shin Series. The Shin Universe Robo toy uses all four properties to create a combiner robot aka Megazord. Seriously, it is weird seeing Shin Godzilla transform to become the robot's torso.
Edit: There's a video advertising for the Shin Universe Robo on RUclips, you'd think it's for a show. The video is on Bandai's official channel.

Pretty stacked year of kaiju content. Ultra series is still going strong as usual, but not only did we get a new Toho Godzilla film, but we also got the new Monsterverse series, the Kong "anime" (I hate how Netflix categorizes certain animated shows), the trailer of Godzilla x Kong, and Gamera finally came back. Don't know if we'll ever have a year like this in a while, but it was fun while it lasted.

I'm really enjoying Blazar too, it's really fun. but having FOUR recap episodes is a bit much, and too many reused monsters, though they work with the story. I hope the next Ultraman gets a bigger budget. Blazar deserves one.

    • @Tedris4
      @Tedris4 Год назад +10

Blazar kinda feels like Tsubaraya's attempt to prove to Bandai they CAN do something with a bigger budget and still turn enough of a profit, since Bandai has historically skimped on budget and pushed toys for profit. Hopefully, it's convincing enough to continue in Blazar's direction.

I should mention that the english dub of Specterman is heavily censored. The show is actually really violent, and they cut most of those moments out. Like for example in one of the later episodes, a dog gets turned into a dog monster at a hospital, and he grabs a near by nurse and bites her head off, before yeeting the headless body in front of the main characters. Or an episode after it, the dogs owner becomes a vampire monster, and we see it feeding on the brains of a random woman he met on the street (the dub just cuts to a closeup of the monster, ignoring the gore on the ground). I usually don't mind dubs, but I do mind censorship, as the crazy violence is what made it special.

Gamera Rebirth was so good in every other aspect that I totally forgave its shortcomings in the animation department. The story, tone, characterization, all basically a perfect blend of the series' three previous versions (Showa insane cheap goofiness, the masterful Kaneko trilogy, and Gamera The Brave's "E.T./Iron Giant/Water Horse but with Gamera") into a cohesive new take. Gamera's both Guardian of the Universe and Friend of All Children in that show, and those ideas feel like they harmonize. I cried when the final credits played.
I need to finish Blazar, I only watched a couple episodes but i enjoyed them. And it's a personal failing of mine that I didn't watch Monarch.
And then Minus One?.....Minus One is the film (like, of ALL movies ever) I've seen the most times in theaters. I saw it five times I think? At the IMAX fan preview, with my fiancée, with some other friends, in B&W, and in B&W with my parents. And I loved it every time and I'm honestly mad in my heart that it's out of theaters and not available on disc yet so I can watch it again.

Gigabash has the main issue that it's community is atrocious (what community isn't at times?). That being said, the main issue is with the camera being so insanely pulled back because the game was only designed with 4 players in mind. This, combined with the streetfighter-esc speed the characters move at makes the "giant monsters" look like action figures playing on a playset and not, well... giant monsters. It's fine if that doesn't bother you but it bothers a fair few daikaiju fans.
But don't ask the community for a closer camera option for 1v1 combat. They will hunt you down and accuse you of trolling and of course the typical "if you don't like it, don't buy it", despite needing to buy it to even give the game a try in the first place.
So I would say sales are probably middling at best. The game mainly seems to be viewed by Tsubaraya and Toho as a quick and easy cop out of putting out any funds or effort into an Ultraman/Godzilla game that isn't some mobile gatcha jank.

I didn't like the MV Skull Island animated series. The young female character was so damn annoying, like my two younger brothers and I had to keep ourselves from tearing our ears off.
The creature designs are cool. The fact that the Kraken was throwing stuff at Kong's lair was very entertaining. Just wish the human characters were more enjoyable.
When it comes to Monarch: Legacy of Monsters, I love it even more. For once after years since Kong: Skull Island, it DOESN’T feel like a Michael Bay movie with too much action. It feels like a genuine Kaiju film. I know that Kaiju is action, but too much action just kind of ruins it for me, lol.
The action in Godzilla Minus One was done well. Sure, there's so much action, but the choreography and tone matched what they were going for. Godzilla FELT and LOOKED like an actual nuclear bomb.
    Minus One IS the GOAT.
The Godzilla vs. Megalon short was EPIC, and I am feeling so much nostalgia from the Godzilla vs. Jet Jaguar short.

Gamera Rebirth was a massive disappointment to me, I watched the Heisei trilogy before watching rebirth hoping that Rebirth would at least bring some closure to the lack of Gamera 4 in my soul. To say the least, I should not have come into Gamera rebirth with any expectations. The story was meh, the music made me want to turn my tv off every time they reused that generic guitar soundtrack which would go better in Pacific Rim. The fights were very bland, more often than not Gamera just shows up and kills the monster of the week kaiju. Zero cool or interesting world building that we had in the heisei Gamera movies. Incredibly dumb plot twist in the last few episodes.
I totally get the hype for the showa era kaiju's redesigns but the designs completely go to waste because of the monster of the week format, especially when Gamera is weirdly op. Back then the most enjoyable part of Gamera was that he was an underdog and so the fights would have much more going on as Gamera tries to get the advantage, fights with multiple stages. They were really fun and engaging to watch weather in the showa era, heisei era, or the millenium era. Gamera Rebirth tosses that out of the window, I'd argue that it copies the worst thing about Godzilla Final Wars.
Sorry for the huge comment, I just don't really get to put my honest feelings on Gamera Rebirth out there often. I hope you guys can understand where I'm coming from.

You sort of went in with wrong expectations on your part, you shouldn't watch the trilogy and expect the same results from rebirth or the brave or any piece of gamera media afterwards. I've watched the trilogy many times prior to rebirth and still enjoyed it cause i didn't expect it to live up to the trilogy. How is the series being a "monster of the week" formula bad when most kaiju shows literally follow that exact formula.
Gridman did it, so did dynazenon, i shouldn't have to go into detail of many how ultraman shows do it and so did godzilla the series. That's a more simpler route for a episodic kaiju series to go instead of SP being the most overly complex anime plot wise aside from evangelion. Pacific rim the black being mostly plot/character driven but lacking in some areas because of it having only 7 episodes and skull island teasing kong a tad bit too much.
So gamera doing what most other kaiju anime couldn't do formula wise (except gridman/dynazenon) was a breath of fresh air as the over reliance on plot/character driven stories in kaiju anime was starting to get a bit overused. There is a reason godzilla the series for example works while godzilla's anime doesn't. It's episodic formula allowed for more stuff the plot can do.
Gamera was still an underdog in rebirth so...where was he OP? Cause only time he did anything remotely OP was when he sniped the moon. Even power scalers see that as his only OP feat, everything else he did wasn't all that by comparison. So I don't see how it copied FW to any degree when most of the kaiju weren't nerfed just to make gamera look cool like in FW (except jiger who was definitely a bit of a let down compared to her showa incarnation).
He mostly beats gyaos into a pulp, he only struggles with jiger cause of the military attacking him (similar to how he struggled with iris in the sky because of the military attacking him), he only gained the upper hand against zigra on land (just like showa), guiron mostly wrecked gamera. Gamera only struggled against viras because of him missing an arm and struggled against S gyaos because he wasn't fully healed. By all accounts, he was still an underdog in most of his fights.
Side note, gamera's franchise has no millennium era, the brave is still considered part of the heisei era of gamera, it's just not canon to the trilogy. In the same vain mothra's trilogy is part of the heisei era of toho's tokusatsu films but not canon to heisei godzilla films

One last comment, you compare the lore of rebirth to the lore of the heisei trilogy and yet...both stories have similar (if not the same) lore and both don't dive deep into it. G1 gives us the basis of gamera and gyaos being made by the people of Atlantis and g3 goes a bit further to show those same people made beta gameras and potentially iris too, but that's all you get. No answer to why these people created the gyaos how long it took for the civilization to fall.
Matt Frank's last hope manga and the 2003 gamera vs barugon manga go into detail on the background of this ancient civilization much more than the trilogy did. Rebirth simply said this other civilization created kaiju, sacrificed kids to them and at some point, the civilization fell. We do have a prequel manga that is still ongoing that will explain the fall of this civilization, probably alot more than either manga for the trilogy did by comparison.
However the plot twist in ep 5 did feel a bit odd as it felt out of nowhere, I will agree to that but same can be said for asagi claiming she no longer could feel or hear gamera's thoughts at the end of g1 but for some reason, claims she can still sense them in g2. I love both but both got their flaws.

My thoughts on Moanrch vs Netflix Kong are FLIPPED compared to yours! (Well not so much, Kong is indeed mid but...man Monarch is LOWER)
The modern cast is so....dismissiable. I do enjoy the espionage and the world building; of how Monarch was founded and became public knowledge. But damn Cate, Kentaro, and May are characters I hope get killed off/forgotten about.
I have more attatchement to JOSH (fat kid with glasses from GvK) and FORD (army soldier from 2014) than ANY of the three! Even the eco terrorist from KotM are more endearing than them!
It's hard to keep going (on ep7 as I'm writing this) but I wanna see what Monarch and Goji are up to so...guess I'll trudge through the mud that are the three main leads of the show~
(Btw, the 50's cast is slightly better. But Keiko drags things down for me. Much prefer Shaw and Bill over her. For a character that died in ep1, she's stealing the spotlight from her other 2 leads)
