As a former teenage girl, believe me, if there was a chance to telepathically spy on one's boyfriend, it would have been done at a slumber party. Ethics would not even have been brought up until later, as adults, when they'd say, "Jeez, that was kind of nasty and intrusive wasn't it?"

One thing about Nathan he's going to be the right one in the group every time. But I'll never understand how they aren't mad at Jonathan for literally taking pictures of a naked woman but mad at Nancy for wanting to have a night of fun it's not her fault Barb didn't leave like she told her to.

THIS!! From the beginning of ST I’ve been defending my girl Nancy. SHE DIDNT DO ANYTHING WRONG! She told barb to leave and barb decided not to listen and got killed. That is 1000% not on Nancy, she literally said to go home and that Steve would give her a ride. I get barb was worried about her friend but what did she expect? Nancy to come out of the room after getting it on w Steve and say “okie dokie barb let’s go!” Barb should’ve left when she was told to 🤷🏼‍♀️ and I’ll stand by it lmao

Like yes Nancy told Barb to go home and what happened to Barb is not her fault but she was being a bad friend and that’s probably why she felt so guilty about what happened to Barb and honestly if i was Nancy i would feel guilty too.

Leaving out the pressuring her to go, if she didn't pressure barb to drink there would be no blood. Let's be real Nancy was a shitty friend and she didn't deserve barb. Also drinking and driving??? Steve had shotgunned a beer. It's almost like she actually cared about her friends safety.

I've always found it so funny how a certain portion of the fandom was really adamant that Will wasn't gay. And that him being gay would "ruin" the show. His S1 character description is, "a boy with sexual identity issues", he gets called several slurs by his father and the bullies, and Joyce suggests that he's different from other people, the S2 script mentions that in the finale while he's dancing with the girl, he's actually staring at Mike the whole time, and when Mike says, "It's not my fault you don't like girls", apparently, the line originally was supposed to be, "It's not my fault you don't like girls yet". So the Duffer brothers intentionally removed the yet from the equation. Hmm, the creators of the show altering a line in the script to change it from something happening later in life to it never happening at all. And yet people get so upset at the idea of Will not being straight despite it literally being in his character description since the beginning. It didn't come out of nowhere. It's literally always been apart of his character.
But anyway, yet another instance of Will Byers being hurt. Whether it's physically, mentally, or emotionally, that boy is always going through some form of turmoil. Haven't liked Mike much this season. But I do appreciate that he biked over to apologize to him in the rain. This is pretty much the first time they've ever fought and you can see how much Mike regrets it.

Nah I'm sorry, people who said him being gay would ruin his character are homophobic. Bc what tf is that supposed to mean? So a character's sexuality will ruin their character? Was there ever any hint that Will liked girls? No. It was up in the air. You wouldn't know if he was straight or not. It was never brought up. Because straight is the default, people always assume all characters are straight and when they're revealed to be gay or bi, it apparently "came out of nowhere". It's like being gay needs to be justified when it shouldn't cause people just...are gay. Their preference doesn't need to be hinted at lol. This is more on the people who just assumed he was into girls.
Sorry for the rant, this just always pissed me off.

Both the brothers need to see things and life in a more broader perspective. Yes, context is everything. Nothing will make sense without that.
Jonathan (an adult) and El (a kid) CAN'T be compared at all in this situation. What Jonathan did was a criminal act. He took photos of a half naked woman without her consent like a creepy psychopath. That is sexual harrasment & can be a lifetime trauma for a woman. The act had the potential to harm her. What El did couldn't harm anybody. Yes, spying is wrong but she just wanted to see what they were doing. Kids being sneeky. She didn't see mike naked and thought "Oh lovely, let's take a picture of this because i am a psycho pervert." So Yes, there's a huge difference between the situations. Jonathan knew the weight of what he was doing, El didn’t because she’s been raised in a lab her whole life, and even after escaping, continued to be sheltered from society and social cues.

Difference is, i think cameron mentioned (in season 1 reactions) how it was good that Jonothan took the pictures because it helped them find out about the demogorgon. And not only is jonothan old enough to know that it’s wrong, he took pictures of literally someone getting undressed.
El spied on Mike, whereas i do agree it’s wrong to do so, it also helped her (and max) find out about billy (or get some type of suspicion). This is according to Cameron’s logic btw. El is also young, not necessarily the smartest and is being guided by someone who is not a fan of Max (mike if that wasn’t obvious).
My overall opinion, what Jonothan did was wrong, Nancy forgave him sure. But still, it’s wrong and nothing will ever change that fact. No one should ever go through someone privacy like that. Whereas, what El also did was wrong, i think at this point (i could be wrong so my bad, if i am) she is like 12-13. There is nothing to compare to the two (El and Jonothan).

I don’t blame Mike and Lucas too much, they’re just being normal teenage boys. But them laughing and lowkey mocking Will during his “campaign” was not cool.
The Will and Mike fight scene in the rain was pretty upsetting. Seeing Mike pick fun of Wills lack of interest in girls… low blow. I don’t know if this is you thinking that I am somehow insinuating that what Mike said was homophobic or something cause that is not how I feel. But he literally said “it’s not my fault you don’t like girls” there is very few ways you could take that, you can’t deny he did pick fun of Will’s lack of interest in girls. Whether that was Mike’s intention or not, it’s what happened. Mike knows Will has been bullied for a long time and constantly called gay slurs. Will's lack of interest in girls was already a place of severe insecurity for him so for Mike to bring it up even in a place of anger, not okay. So to be frank, I don’t really care what Mike intended with his words it matters how it was spoken and how Will chose to interpert them. Perhaps a part of Will wanted to act more “mature” to maybe be on the same track as his friends are but he just isn’t there yet. Steve at s1 was a piece of shit, but he's evolved to become one of the best characters in the series, but just because he's good today does that mean we have to pretend he's never been wrong? No, thanks. While Nancy is hated just for her "personality", really. I'll never forget them saying things like "no big deal" when Steve and his friend wrote bad things about Nancy at the town theater on s1. The girl was humiliated in front of the whole city just because the guy didn't bother to talk before jumping to conclusions and they acted like what Steve did wasn't wrong. In contrast, Nancy was placed as the worst character in the series (below the racist Billy) after she "cheated" on Steve with Jonathan (they weren't even dating anymore). Come on, we know the name for it, most just don't say it because they don't want to be rude in the comments, but we all know where these attitudes come from.

in regards to your views on El spying on Mike, of course we, as adults, know it's messed up. but they're kids. middle school kids, (12-13 years old). they don't really know better. You should also keep in mind that El learned from a very early age that if she used her powers in whichever way, she was praised and rewarded for it with Papa in the lab. If she didn't/couldn't perform, she would be punished and locked in a room. It's not easy for her to unlearn that. She used to have to spy on the Russians remember? She also used to "spy" on Mike in season 2 when she couldn't communicate with him. She doesn't know the concept of boundaries yet. As for Jonathan, he's a kid yes, but definitely a lot older than El and Max. I believe he was 17 when he took the pictures of Nancy undressing. He knew better then; surely Joyce taught him better than that. But El didn't have anyone to teach her. For you to compare the two, they'd have to be the same circumstances and unfortunately El does not have the same circumstances as Jonathan. I'm not saying one is worse/better than the other because both are an invasion of privacy and completely intrusive, but I just hope you can put yourself in El's shoes and then make your opinion based on that. Then put yourself in Jonathan's shoes. Do you still think they're the same thing?

It's the fact for me that they just simply forget El literally didn't have a childhood, that she basically has stunted emotional and intellectual growth due to her circumstances. agreeing with the comments here, el is a kid having fun. jonathan was an adult who consciously took that photo . it's not like el went in there with the intent of finding something weird, she just wanted to know if mike was talking about her and that's it. jonathan might not have purposefully snuck out to find nancy/the house, but still, he saw what was happening and didn't leave; instead he took a photo.
another thing, max did not tell/make el do anything; she was, at most, a mischevious influence if you will. max is a tough cookie but observe how sweet she treats el compared to her usual behaviour, throughout the entire time shes known her. i heavily doubt she'd ever make el do anything she didn't want to.
and if you recall it was el's idea to spy on mike in the first place after max made a joke. max is just letting el be a teenager for once, and if that includes some sneaky whatnot then so what? its "boys will be boys" but teenage girls cant have the same fun..? i get that it wasnt entirely morally correct but not everything is black and white & she isnt inherently a bad person for having some fun doing something that ultimately did not harm anyone, and wasn't meant to harm anyone.
el is my favorite character so i could be a little biased & im aware that i would probably defend her doing a lot of things but theres a reason for that too; i like to defend girls who get too much undeserved heat in the same way male characters are often protected and babied even if they *have* done something wrong. and theres no harm in that, im having fun and its ... a character. obviously theres things nobody should defend, fictional or not, but el is and has always been a sweet girl who's gone through a lot. let her be a teenage girl with her girlfriend yknow

I think Eleven should deserve that freedom she has with Max. Of course who wouldn't be worried about their child's safety, especially considering how wanted they were. But Doc Owens said last season the crowd before were gone, meaning everyone who even worked with Eleven was gone, so it's been a while. And if it isn't safe now, will it ever be safe? I guess the show makes you feel almost in Hopper's shoes as he has to go threw all the steps of learning to be a father for an older girl or a young teen immediately rather than it progressing over time. It's a big enough age gap between the age his daughter died at and the age he adopted Eleven. I think his worries rub off on everyone. Her going to the Mall was harmless, but of course there are always possibilities. I think Eleven just needed Max to make that big scary step to freedom. These dangerous risks mean Eleven gets to finally become her own person. And she can handle herself if something happens. Eleven's only purpose so far in this show was to protect everyone, not get herself killed, recover from trauma and guilt and be Mike's love interest and saviour. It's time she gets to finally figure out herself on her own.

Mike saying that to Will during their argument was very messed up. Mike and Will have been best friends since they were 5 years old and they are 14 years old in season 3 so Mike obviously knew what the town of Hawkins and Wills dad had to say about Will and his sexuality. Hell the bully in season 1 even said some nasty things about Will in front of Mike. Even if Mike meant it in a different way it is still very messed up on his part because Will obviously took it that way because of what everyone said about him while he was growing up.
I was so glad that El broke up with Mike and became best friends with Max during that time because it truly seemed like she was very happy without him honestly.

Yes exactly, it was such a low blow to say that and you can see it hurt Will. On top of this will just got possessed mike should be more considerate. In my opinion he is a pretty terrible friend.

I love how you’re seeing both sides of the fight between will and Mike because most of the people bash Mike for being a jerk and support only will. Nobody’s in the wrong here so we can’t take sides and I’m happy Nathan was supportive of both.

Last season Dr. Owens said give it a year before introducing El to the world whe he gave Hopper her birth certificate. Hopper asked for one night so she could go to the snowball. There is still a part of the government El is hiding from and Dr. Owens is covering for her. His argument is that they need more time to misdirect and put time between people looking for her. She is allowed to be out after the year is up. Her year is not currently up.

Tbh, Max and El are 14 years old. At least Max would know that spying isn't right. With El being raised in the lab, even with her being out for almost two years, she might not entirely understand all rights from wrongs. She was being trained to spy on Russians.

Jonathans to wrapped up with Nancy to be there for Will and Joyce is on her own mission again his friends have different lives without him. I feel bad for Will Byers. Its almost like he's still in that place and gone because he feels dead inside. I think most of the Characters go through some form of Depression in this series but I think Will was the first next to Hopper losing his daughter and still dealing with that trauma.

Honestly tho, Cameron’s just gonna have to admit he hates women and go or something. Like why is it that everytime a female character messes up he’ll be the first one to hate but when a male character messes up he’ll only give them a little heat or defends them, just like he’s doing with Jonathan. Okay, I don’t actually think he hates women but there always seems to be some type of micro aggressions against us like wdym “she’s a woman so y’all not gonna get on her” or something like that 💀 Nathan was the only one making sense in that argument.

I know I’m very very late, but Nathan is 100% correct. Eleven using her abilities to spy on Mike is completely different to Jonathan. Mike and eleven are boyfriend and girlfriend , they’re in a relationship. Yes while spying on someone in general is wrong, El didn’t do it with the intention of catching Mike doing something inappropriate. She did with the attention of finding out what her BOYFRIEND was saying abt their break up, which yes is bad but is completely different to Jonathan taking inappropriate pictures of a girl he didn’t have a relationship with, with the intention of having photos of her and printing them of for his own personal use. Cameron being unable to see that is mind blowing, Jonathan is a pre adult and cannot be compared to a child doing something completely different. Taking images of someone through their window is a crime and is not “spying”- He used his camera to collect photos of her without her clothes which is not even comparable to eleven watching Mike talk about their breakup.
