Thanks! Using a strap didn't work for me cause strap just kept sliding round and round the oil filter as I turned it but then I remembered I had a tow bar chain so I made a slip knot with the chain and pulled the end through the wrench and proceeded with the rest of your steps and my oil filter came off! You are a life saver!
WORTH IT IF YOU DONT FEEL LIKE GOING TO THE STORE. I definitely was skeptical on this, but the comments gave me faith in this method. Thankful for this video and positive comments on this because it worked, and I am very proud of myself for trying it.
I was skeptical about this at first. Did this on Christmas morning when all the part stores were closed. 2 wrenches and a dog leash later, I got off. Thanks for the tip.
Thank you so much! Your video made perfect sense when I placed the strap over the oil filter. I felt like a genius when I took the oil filter off using this method!
This video saved my day, I was changing my car oil when I tried to unscrew the oil filter i was stuck,i did exactly as the video shows, and it was like magic, the oil filter came out like butter. Thanks man a million thanks
Thank you, sir. I had the idea of something like that but you put it all together for me and thank you for the way you made your video. Some people like to hear themselves talk and they don’t get to the problem/solution. You were quick, to the point, thorough And very helpful….thank you, sir.
Want to thank you, as you just saved me a trip to the auto story to buy a tool for that job as it was more then hand tight and not really accessable. Thank you it worked lurk a charm with a snap ratched strap
Dude I was struggling so much even went and got and oil filter remover and it didn't work and came across this and it freakin worked dude your the man 👍🤘 thanks
Worked perfectly for me! I can’t find an oil wrench small enough to grab the one on my Yaris. Thank you so much! Any rope works. I used a rounded yellow rope and that one did the job. Doesn’t have to be a flat rope.
I ran into issue last night changing my oil. My oil filter socket was too small it was for my motorcycle. Tried this method w a tie down strap, couldnt believe i actually got it to work. Thx for video.
Man, I can't believe this actually worked. I had already drained my oil and didn't have a filter wrench. I used 550 cord and it worked fine. I also used a tiny little wrench for the second one - use a big one so you can crank more easily. Thanks Justin, that was clutch!
NASA, hire this guy!!! Like everyone else, I was skeptical, but willing to try it before the infamous screwdriver technique. In my case, the filter was so difficult to even get to with a ton of 4WD crap in the way. Luckily, I had a piece of nylon strap I hadn’t thrown away yet. Thank God! It worked with nearly zero effort after wrestling with a filter wrench for longer than I care to admit.
Thankyou so so so much, i didn't have a small rope like that but i used an old cloth belt i had and it worked like clockwork or rather counter clockwork. Appreciate you my man 👍
Damn bro this is the only thing that worked for me. I was so pissed almost dropped the wrench on my face a couple times 😂 lol but when I finally saw the filter turning 😅 the heavens opened up lol. Thanks 🙏
what great trick. I spent 45 min sweating and pissed then found this video. it worked. all i had was twine but i wrapped it around a few times so it was thicker and it worked.
Filter Wrench broke, Screw driver method not a chance went through the housing, chisel and hammer all failed over 2 hours, this is the only thing that worked 10minutes, initially i tried with normal rope but was not so good( may be would of worked) it is better and easier with flat braid) fortunately had some . Thanks for sharing.
Awesome! It works! I too was skeptical, but found an old hockey lace and used that, saved me a trip to the store. What other guy found this while on the toilet?
Does anyone else have ideas of or tried to glue a nut on top for easier removal? And is it better to add some oil into filter before installation, or simply letting the pump do it's thing at pre-start enough?
This is a greater trick, depending on the the oil filter location a lot of the time if you can get an ice pick or a medium/smaller screw driver mostly horizontal you can hammer it in the filter and break it loose that way also
After my filter wrench broke and the screwdriver method failed, this method, right here, was the only thing that worked. Thank you for sharing!
Thank you my guy! Worked perfect! I was actually glad that i lost my filter tool, cause now i know this cool trick!
Thanks! Using a strap didn't work for me cause strap just kept sliding round and round the oil filter as I turned it but then I remembered I had a tow bar chain so I made a slip knot with the chain and pulled the end through the wrench and proceeded with the rest of your steps and my oil filter came off! Man you saved me so much hassle😂🙏my wrench wasn’t cutting it. I sure as hell wasn’t jamming a flat head through it.
So you’ve seen that clip 😂😂
I feel ya the flathead trick ain’t good on a sideways oil filter in a new vehicle
I was skeptical about this at first. Did this on Christmas morning when all the part stores were closed. 2 wrenches and a dog leash later, I got off. Thanks for the tip.
Kinky! 😜
I wish I would have seen your comment before I started, dog leash is a great idea, but I unfortunately cut a strap off of one of my sons toys lol
Thank you so much! Your video made perfect sense when I placed the strap over the oil filter. I felt like a genius when I took the oil filter off using this method!
I use k&n filters now they come off using a wrench a lot easier
This video saved my day, I was changing my car oil when I tried to unscrew the oil filter i was stuck,i did exactly as the video shows, and it was like magic, the oil filter came out like butter. Thanks man a million thanks
You are what legends are made of, works like a charm, clean, no damage.

This hack saved us fr 😂😂 we were finally able to take off our oil filter after 30 minutes of struggling so thank you 🙏
Worked perfectly for me! I can’t find an oil wrench small enough to grab the one on my Yaris. Thank you so much! Any rope works. I used a rounded yellow rope and that one did the job. Doesn’t have to be a flat rope.
Sweet thanx for the tip,No more stabbing screwdrivers through my filters
man i had been struggling for so long and it surprised me how instantly it popped off with this trick, thanks man
Trying to change the oil on a 2016 Ford Transit connect this was the only thing that would work without getting a specialty tool. Thank you!
Thanks man, didn’t make sense until we tried it and worked like a charm
Not only was this Genius, but the Xtra Swag included by dropping the wrench at the end wuz a good touch lol
Thanks for this. This was awesome. True man of genius moment
Best tip ever. Mazda made it inpossible to change the filter yourself. This helped me out big time!! 👍
Worked perfectly thanks

You sir are a genius, thank you for saving my evening 👍🏽
Thankyou so so so much, i didn't have a small rope like that but i used an old cloth belt i had and it worked like clockwork or rather counter clockwork. Appreciate you my man 👍
I was skeptical. I miss more than I hit on RUclips. This worked immediately. Thank you for repairing my truck and ego! Oil filter had me maaad.
I was about to crashout cursing whoever put this thing in last time but this video saved the day. You're a dang legend
Worked like a charm!!
Thank you so much. Your tip saved me. 😅
You’re doing gods work, will only ever use this method in the future, worked like a charm
Damn bro this is the only thing that worked for me. I was so pissed almost dropped the wrench on my face a couple times 😂 lol but when I finally saw the filter turning 😅 the heavens opened up lol. Thanks 🙏
That’s funny 😂 hope you didn’t drop it on your face tho.
Yes thank you. Worked great for me.

Just had to use this trick. Thank you so much for the video I was lost on how I was gona get my filter off.
Like a charm! Thanks, brother!
That’s pretty smart dude! Worked like a charm. Thanks a lot

Thank you so much, this is the exact video I needed
Thank you sir! U saved me
I was almost about to quit and call a friend to borrow his car to get to work tomorrow but thx u relly saved me!
You can also take a screwdriver and pound it through the oil filter, and pull the screwdriver--usually enough to loosen it up.
our bud out here doin' the Good Work
Awesome! It works! I too was skeptical, but found an old hockey lace and used that, saved me a trip to the store. What other guy found this while on the toilet?
Brilliant bud. Thank you.
🔥💯👌🏾
thank you thank you thank you. you save my bacon. appreciate the upload
I wish things like this or more common. Absolutely love this video! Ppl underestimate rope lol
It worked, thank you!
Thank you!!! Life saver
My man!! I owe you dinner for this one.
Thank you for this. I didn’t have any rope so i used a shoestring. Problem solved 🙌🏼
Thank you so much your a life saver
Worked like a charm
You got me out of a jam. Thanks man.
Love it. Saved me today!!
If this doesn't work you can also just smash a screwdriver right into the filter and use handle as leverage.
It works, any one says it doesn’t work your doing something wrong
Depends on the location of the oil filter in the vehicle.
Saved my life 😂thanks
I'll give this a go next time. Ive always had to hammer a screwdriver into the filers
I wish the world didn't overtighten oil filters and drain plugs
Morons doing oil changes. Totally unnecessary. Oil filter is good with firm hand tightening.
nice 👍 idea bro big thanks ❤
It really works!
Oh fuck yeah! This is bossy as hell 🙏🏻💯
Get you out of a tight spot , very useful thanks
I owe you a beer for that one!
This worked like a dream
Thank you bossman!
Does anyone else have ideas of or tried to glue a nut on top for easier removal?
And is it better to add some oil into filter before installation, or simply letting the pump do it's thing at pre-start enough?
That was smart as shit
Now I can get my ASE badge! 🏅👍🎉
Works!👍💪
Thank you so much
Thank you thank you thank you!!!!!
Thank you so much you just got me out of a jam
Don't start a oil change job until you have the right tools and parts. Have some respect for your car at least
Thanks my friend
Красавчик!!!! 🎉
Super man thanks alot,
Life saver 👌🏽

Damn...times are tough...the poor's man oil filter wrench
Look, round here we despise the proper tools or PPE.
Damnit Boi it worked
Actually works
Thank you
Just used my leather belt and worked like a charm

How to put back
