It's also time to EXPAND the court! When SCOTUS was formed, there were 9 districts = 9 Supreme Justices. Now there are 13 districts, so there should be 13 Supreme Justices.

Should a President ever be free to commit a crime, ever? Why would that ever be OK? The President is tasked with executing and upholding the rule of law. Giving that person the right to defy the law-under any circumstances-would be “breaking” the law in its most literal sense.

I agree what if a President had all the SC Justices kidnapped and declared himself as filling in for the Chief Justice and declared that members of his cabinet would fill in for the other Justices. Is that something a President would have immunity for doing? Is the only recourse impeachment? The President should not be above or out of reach of criminal or civil justice. Is a Supreme Court Justice immune from the laws because otherwise politicians that did not like their stance or opinion would possibly bring charges against them?
Maybe that would have gotten their attention!!

The older I get the more I realize conservatives would be perfectly OK for the USA to be a monarchy or maybe even a dictatorship.
There're records that date back to literarly the turn of last century of what were then extreme but respected and small wing of conservative Republicans (that was when there was also a progressive wing of that party, of which, if there is a vestige alive today, would be represented by David Cay Johnston, but by no elected member of the Republican party) were penning treatises on turning back the clock to put a near-monarch at the head of the country, wherein only propertied Christian white men (again) could vote. Betsy DeVoss, whom Trump had appointed Secretary of Education, descends from, and still embodies the beliefs of this wing, though she understands, as did her forefathers, that such beliefs are too odious to the vast majority of Americans, and so must be obscured, or misdirected from, against being seen plainly by the public. Some of this ilk are, if not coming directly from this pedigree, are at least "fellow travelers" who have come to similar conclusions, and are seated presently on the Supreme Court.

Granting the President Absolute Immunity would require a Constitutional Amendment - there is nothing in the Constitution that allows this and SCOTUS does not have the authority to change the Constitution

Biden cannot thwart authoritarians on his own. Downballot candidates are just as important. And state level voter suppression efforts are ongoing; be on the lookout for anti-democratic legislation and rule changes and do what you can to thwart them.

I remember a time when swearing an oath meant something in the US. These oaths don't seem to be worth very much to half of the US population. It's sad to see the moral decay that has engulfed our justice and political systems.
Conservatives were always this way. Christianity just isn't popular enough anymore for them to hide behind a cross while policing everyone else's morals.
All they have left is an open attack on everyone else's existence. We've got this new American experiment in democracy, yet a solid half of humans still operate on the stone age hunter gather software that only makes sense when you can simply move camp and those "others" cease to exist. Most are horrified, if they care at all, whether dumbfounded or laughing. Those in countries who'se judiciary are comprimised already know what follows.
One is moved to ask when Alito, Thomas, Gorsuch & Kavanaugh are going to stop their misguided inquiries into questions of the type "How many angels can fit on the head of a pin?", and instead do the ethical thing--that is, to have the guts, as a group, to affirm that NO American president may act with immunity from criminal prosecution when he flagrantly breaks the law!

Each prosecutorial charge and every decision by a judge will now have to go all the way up to the SC and back down and each case against any former President will take... YEARS! (And years and years- they're going to fashion precedent this way).
Am I the only one sitting at home totally disgusted that the Supreme Court is even considering the the office of the president could be held to a lower standard? That office needs to be held to the highest standard and if the person occupying the office can not act up that standard than DO NOT run for office.
Just the consideration of this by the court has reduced the world standing as a free and fair country of laws by the people!

Found the Supremes are going to "bunt" in hope November Elections will get them off the hook. We need look to re-write Constitution Amendment to clear the air. Especially since now there are originalists on the Court. Plus, to prevent repeats in our future.

So much for the penetrating clarity the Supreme Court was expected to bring. Listening to some of their questioning, it appears more like they were all sitting around in an Alabama pub watching a football match on the tele with an occasional glint of interest in the topic de jour without encumbering themselves with that oh so pesky constitution. This is what a country reaps from sowing ignorance for the better part of seven decades. In this moment in American history at least 250 million thought educating themselves on democracy, law, civics in general was just too hard and complicated. They’re about to find out just how much harder and infinitely more complicated ignorance will turn out to be.

Having followed this since his second year in office and the response from the judiciary, government and media I now have absolutely no faith that justice will prevail at all.
