- For anyone who's seen the famous cornetto trilogy, we know Edgar Wright likes to fill his films with funny gags and hidden gems, but who'd have thought he'd give away the twist ending.

wow that point was not worth sitting through five minutes of bullshit then looking at the article in the description
That’s literally the point of watching this channel lol.
Pin of shame
Bros been pined for a year and only 10 likes 😢
I like how the movie symbolically explains that some friends, when getting older, just drift apart and become blanks that you don't really know anymore. But some stick with you until the worlds end.
The World's End was filmed in my home town. One of the pubs (That actually is a pub) has a massive framed poster of the movie.
Frosty4427 what town I must attend
What pub (in the films name)
That's not ruining the twist, that's foreshadowing done right!
If you know the foreshadowing before the reveal, it is ruined
TelenTerror .....foreshadowing ruins the twists of you can figure it out.
@@CyberChamp The point of foreshadowing is to allow the audience to guess at the twist. The twist should be guessable to some degree, otherwise it's not a twist, it's bullshit
It was done pretty good in burn after reading as well with Brad Pitt's character
@@jaydeleon8094 all twists are to some degree noticable by foreshadowing because without foreshadowing the twist is just badly set up. Wright always seems to like to play games with stuffing as much foreshadowing in as possible while its still unnoticable to the average viewer and thats what sets him apart from so many others that make it too obvious with a single plot elemebt
I really love that in the King's Head bar, Gary King gets put on a table, and his unconscious head leans over the edge. And under his head there's a metallic basket. I find that level of details in Edgar Wright movies just so amazing, I've watched them so many times!
My friend group decided that, instead of shortening pre-drinks to just pres, we would elongate it into preliminary beverages
@Ryan DeGrave It's the drinks you have at home before you go out drinking/clubbing
We say prinks in Dublin
You're all so cooky... ^^^/s
@Ryan DeGrave wtf it ain't a sexuality thing it's just the Irish way of speaking
Wouldn't a pre-drink be that little bit of air you suck in before holding your breath and taking a drink?
I love the line from the movie where one of them says it's more badass to go into bar full of buff tattooed men and order a glass of water. And at the end, that's exactly what happens
All the cornetto trilogy films also have Bill Nighy in for anyone thats interested
And Martin Freeman
@@taylorruddick111 he's the network
Thats cool. Thanks
@@matt-ek4rz in Shaun of the dead?
@@residualwaste5038 he had a cameo as part of the other group
I adore the Cornetto trilogy because you can just see they're having so much fun in every single scene.
CUCUMBER WATER FOR CUSTOMERS ONLY!
Is this a Better Call Saul call-out?
Bob pisses in the cucumber water. There is a reason its for customers only.
TheKardiacKid I understand that reference
Just started watching that show, what a coincidence
Karl always finds a way to talk about something that I was just watching the day before/ thinking about
Yes, Inquisitor! This is the person who admits to know a psyker!
Warhammer out of nowhere.
The movie i never get tired of watching is Princess Bride.
@@kabob0077 -here's the funny thing, the YT notification telling me of your replay showed the "You Fool" bit. good effort tho- The fact that the movie is around 30 years old, and ages very well is just a testament to how good Princess Bride is as a film
Get this man a MLT.
@@kabob0077 WRYYYYY!!! *extremely FLAMBOYANT pose* *SHATTER*
kabob 007 obligatory “is that a JoJo reference”
Dunkirk
I was once driving my mom to the airport. We were making great time, so my mom spoke up, "I think I'll go to the bar before my flight and get railed." I had to ask her to never use that phrase for getting drunk ever again, then subsequently explain why I didn't want her to do so because she didn't quite get it. She no longer uses "getting railed".
As an Australian, just ad -Ed to any word and everyone you speak to will know you're getting pissed
I'm gonna get fucking dishwashered
Im gonna get dynastyed
This really got me hungryed
Wankered
I’m gonna go get giraffed
Hearing the phrase “sesh” is hilarious to me as an American sophomore that used that phrase all through freshman year😂😂
I'VE WATCHED WORLDS END AT LEAST TWENTY TIMES AND NEVER NOTICED THE CARS
I reckon they had more Amperas there than there's ever been in any one city at a time
i dont think ive ever seen one outside the film lmao
My favorite tiny detail in The World's End has to be how Wright explains Sam coming back to save Gary, Andy, and Steven: "You came back to save us!" "Yes! Uh...no, i got lost on the ring road" *uh-hyuk*
Which is a callback to when Oliver first calls Sam: "Get lost on the ring road again?"
there’s another detail about cars that i really like, which is that when gary reveals the beast he says that he replaced almost every part of the car but says it’s still basically the same. i initially was just like haha ship of theseus but then later it occurred to me. that’s exactly what the blanks are. this movie is SO FUCKING CLEVER
British have so many eufemisms for "getting pissed" they actually forget getting "pissed" is one. Wouldn't be surprised if "drunk" would only show up as the past participle of drink.
kabob 007 getting cunted is an absolute legend
I love that when he takes a sip at 6:20 he looks at it like he’s thinking this tastes shite
6:22 the face of pain.
9:00 That interpretation is fine but the switch is just a happy accident. It is a real feature in the house where they filmed and no one, Edgar Wright included, had any clue why it was there.
Probably the furnace on/off switch
Micheal Cera said in the directors commentary that he he thinks it symbolises Ramona being just out of reach
ive always felt like people always look to far into the meanings of everything in movies. to the point where they come up with things the director didnt even think of, and the director just goes yeah we ment to do that.
His tattoo reacting with the green/blue screen it actually my favorite part on this video
As cheesy as it is, my movie I can watch over and over is "A Knights Tale"
It's a damn good movie.
Great movie and a pillar of my childhood
Just rewatched that a few weeks ago. Same here!
"Pain, lots of pain!"
Lol pretty sure I've seen it at least 5 times and loved each time.
My favourite detail is when Oliver goes into the toilet in the trusty servant he comes out with signal in his ear piece whereas when he goes in he has no signal
9:27, for those that would prefer to get to the point
or just watch it through, your choice
The Blues Brothers, the Goonies, The Big Lebowski. Whenever one of those is on TV, I will watch it. Guaranteed
I love the adlib style. First time watching this guy. Funnny
The light switch in Scott Pilgrim wasn't intentional, the director and the crew were equally perplexed by it.
I could watch Zombieland every day and I’m so happy We get to see Doubletap in my life time
plus the fact that Gary points out near the start of the film that almost all of the parts on his car have been replaced, a bit like all the blanks
My favourite word for getting drunk is "carrying out the family tradition"
So, apparently, in Scott Pilgrim, that light switch was actually up there. It wasn't a prop, the house they used to shoot that scene just happened to have a weirdly place light switch.
The end bit when they make contact with the aliens is so freaking funny
Scott pilgrim is my favorite of edgar Wright's movies very close behind is hot fuzz. And I never noticed the light switch. Well played Karl. Well played. My favorite foreshadowing was in Shaun of the dead where nick frost ruins the movie with his pep talk in the Winchester.
I'm going out to get twatted after this!
How did it go?
Does it work with twatted tho? If you twat someone round my neck of the woods youve just chinned them 😊
@@Gazmus im goin out to get chinned
Something I noticed is that after Gary pulls up in the beast, Andy points out he’s late and that it’s almost 4:00. Moments later, right after Gary says “Then let’s get this antique on the road show”, the camera shows a close up of each of the other 4 members of the gang, with 1 bell toll for each one, as it just turned 4:00. Some nice attention to detail with a dash of comedic effect.
A personal favorite of mine is "White Girl Wasted."
I find I could watch mad max over and over, because vehicles and props are recycled so god damn much, and there is so much lore in such a small series of 4 movies, several comics, and 2 games
Stephen Chow's Kung Fu Hustle is the one movie in my collection that I can't count the number of times I've seen it between it being on tv and my dvd copy.
Favourite word to describe been drunk: Trollied
I always have to stop and watch Fifth Element whenever I’m browsing channels.
You forgot
Is this the same beast?
Yeah same beast. Just had to change suspension, seats, headlights, engine, etc.
It literally foreshadows how on the outside the blanks look the same but inside they’re different.
I wish they would have called Shaun of the dead “you’ve got red on you” cuz they say it so much 😂
honest to god, never stop making videos. I love listening to these
"Another One" -Dj Khaled
Halfway through the video I just had to pause and go watch The World's End again. Goddamnit Karl, you just made me valuably spend two hours of my life rewatching a phenomenal movie.
Could you imagine the field day these guys would have with JoJo's Bizarre Adventures?
Only in our dreams...
Bat Link
Hmmm
I wish🙏🏻
Worlds end was a great movie. I knew absolutely nothing about it before going in. Never watched a trailer or even read the prologue, just how I like to watch movies. The twist really got me.
Let’s just gloss over the fact that the sequence at the beginning of the film almost beat-by-beat describes what happens during the pub crawl in the film
mate I've watched the worlds end probably like 5 times and never noticed either the pub names or the cars. mental. just read up about the pub names now and it's crazy how much detail they put into these things
"Getting sloshed" is definetly one of my favorites but im gonna have to use getting annihilated
The description of their first pub crawl that Gary King gives at the beginning (when they’re young) also describes the plot of the film. It says when certain characters are going to turn up/disappear, it describes the ending. Quality.
Step Brothers is always good to rewatch, I rioted when it got removed off Netflix
The blue & green in World's End is actually an example of Edgar Wright using color theory to help make certain characters more identifiable
And upon several watches of SPvsTW I initially thought the same that it showed just how unable he is & how just out of reach she is even though you can see her right there. However, if you listen to the commentary they do actually talk about the light switch just actually being in this house that they shot in. The light switch isn't planned, but we're so used to everything having meaning that we can give it it's own
that scott pilgrim thing made me laugh out loud.
One I can watch over and over... and it doesn't matter if I should have been in bed an hour already, but if The Great Escape is on TV, I have to finish watching it.
wait wait wait....are you the same Karl Smallwood that authors the "Today I Found Out" channel?
At least for some of their articles, yes.
This was my first Fact Fiend video. Watched it in my college meal hall back when the world was normal. Good times.
Fun fact: Toothless is modeled after the Crocodile Skink.
the one movie you can even wake me up for is dredd 2012. just everything about it is fucking great.
If someone is black out drunk it's: "they've sunk"
As a German that has spend a couple months in England in the summer for an internship, i can feel you on 2 different levels
Well, language wise...
Haven't been here in a while and nearly forgot about the end scene.
my favourite euphemism for getting drunk comes from that film Blitz with Jason Statham where his character tells a fellow detective who just lost his wife "c'mon, lets get you legless"
I thought the narration of the beginning gave the plot of the movie, or at least a thing about it. Because everything happens just like the opening, the ding dong ditch, the moment in which some characters lose the golden mile (the older versions of the characters die/get replaced the exact same place the younger counterpart loses the golden mile), the fight in the beehive, the bar where they see the old crazy guy, and also the ending when Andy and Gary sit on the grass looking at the town
I know British slang. I am British. If I watched this video for 15 minutes I still would not find out how the cars give away the twist.
I watch Jurassic World every Christmas, making it a tradition.
A Knight's Tale with Heath Ledger, that's my movie that's just never getting old.
You're banned from movie night
I’m gonna watch the movie real quick brb.
Edit: best movie I’ve seen in a while. Pretty wicked
I did think the car thing was strange at the time, thanks for the context and for reminding me to watch this again.
Interested in a fact fiend ‘Paul’ episode.
I love these guys movies
I’ve seen The Martian like 49000 times and it never gets old. I don’t know why.
Karl did you know that the color of the corneto wrappers also are a reference for the type of film
Hot fuzz had the original corneto which is blue forPolice
Shaun of the dead had strawberry cornetos which is red for zombies/blood
And worlds end has mint corentos green for aliens
I don't know why I saw the World's End. I'd never seen Hot Fuzz or Shaun of the Dead and I only saw a description that didn't include anything about the aliens and I'm not generally into comedies unless there's something else weird going on. But I did watch it and I was _this_ close to turning it off because it seemed pretty boring and then he knocked the kids head off and it I cannot find words for how blown my mind was. It was amazing. So now I try and get as many people as possible who haven't seen it to watch it with no idea of the twist. "Oh, it's a British comedy about a pub crawl that starts off a little slow but if you can make it 45 minutes then there's a twist that makes everything far more interesting"
"King Gay"
my personal favs I've heard/used on a night "he was blammo last night" "I got absolutely trousered" and ofc twatted just has a nice ring to it
Nisha is my soul animal, how to train your dragon is dopeeeeeee
watched the third one the other day, its kind of sad :(
Animal?
Two of the films I could watch over and over again are 9 and Spirited Away.
The movie date I can watch over and over and over is the Mask, Jim Carrey's the Mask
omg such a classic, i could watch any Jim carey film on repeat forever but the mask is one of his best performances for sure
They also give away the major plot points and the order Garys team get picked off in the opening sequence!
This film is my favourite thx for making a video on it
No
The film was made (at least partly) in Letchworth Garden City which was designed by a Methodist who believed alcohol was the work of the devil. Consequently there are no pubs there so everything was filmed in a mock pub/ night club. I think it is but do hope that is true.
Two movies that always get me to sit down and pay attention to it are Kingdom of Heaven, the director's cut and the Kevin Costner's version of Robin Hood with Morgan Freeman.
In Bruges. Amazing movie. And each time you watch it you find little bits you missed the previous times.
a "sesh" in most other places means smoking weed..
I'm suprised you didn't mention that the entire opening of the film is true to the whole plot and gives away everything
1:32 wtf just happened
I've seen all the dubs and subs of Akira in one day once so yeah definitely something I can watch over again
The pub used as the King's head in the film is my local 😅
Wait, so they weren't in the same location? I assumed they used a town known for it's pubs, and just renamed and redecorated them all.
NinjaBluefyre it was filmed in two places, both designed by the same guy. I live in one and even I couldn’t always tell which scenes were in which aha
Everything in the worlds end gives away the twist it’s amazing
That moment where you're so British that you look for euphemisms for getting pissed while failing to realize getting pissed IS a euphemism.
"This Is Spinal Tap" I didn't get the "Music blues/jazz festival on the Isle of Lucy ," reference until the second time. I Love Lucy
7:20. Five windows, five beers, the fifth person to play James Bond. DID I GET THEM ALL, MR. SMALLWOOD?
"Why Mean Girls?"
Because it's a fucking masterpiece, Karl
My favourite thing about Hot Fuzz is I abroad with an international group and we were doing a movie night so I sat them all down to watch the quintessential British film that is Hot Fuzz and literally no-one laughed even once, whilst I was there quoting the lines before the character said them and pissing myself laughing. 10/10 would inflict upon others again.
It's so true that every time you watch this movie you can spot something you didn't notice before. Like I got that Gary's last name was King and he says at the end I'm The King. But never noticed the other group members were named after royal positions except for one. Peter last name was Page and he was the first to become a blank. Blank Page
Something I didn't realize until it was pointed out, Gary doesn't bring any luggage all he brings is the beast and that is most likely because he wasn't planning on going back home.
Another thing I heard is that in the beginning when he's describing the events of the original pub crawl, they mirror the events of the second, even down to the guys bailing out at the same point they either became or were revealed to be blanks. Not sure which it is or how valid it is but it's there.
I can watch coroline over and over again. It's my comfort movie
