So he will skate. He's the Freestyler So-Cal deserves, but not the one it needs right now. He became the street skater we needed him to be. So, we'll lurk him, because he can take it. Because he IS our hero.
      He's a silent shredder. A watchful professional. A Darkslider.

I once met Rodney Mullen at the University of Virginia. I was a 36 yr old college student, lifelong skater punk, in a room full of young 20-something medical students. I skated there from my house about 2 miles away.
After his presentation we chatted and he signed my board.
They say 'never meet your heroes,' to which I say, "Never meet your heroes, unless your hero is Rodney Mullen. Always meet Rodney Mullen."
He is one of the nicest, sincerest, and genuine, people I've ever had the pleasure of meeting.

      @jasondashney 10 месяцев назад +9

Thanks for asking that because it made it into this podcast!
It's awesome to be remembered like that. When Green Day first came out they played a tiny club downtown Vancouver called the Nappy Dugout. Held less than 200 people. My friend asked them to play a song but their set was over and they told him to go to a bigger club they were playing soon. My friend was underage so he said he couldn't go. The next time they came to town was after they blew up. Lollapalooza. Billy Joe looks at the crowd and says "This doesn't look like the Nappy Dugout", then proceeded to play my friend's request. Funny thing is he didn't hear that because he was outside the fence with another couple friends because they couldn't get tickets and were trying to find a quiet spot to jump the fence so I was the only person in the whole place who understood what he was talking about.

When I was 5 years old, my older brother brought home the vhs tape of Rodney vs. Daewon Round 2. This was my first exposure to skateboarders and I remember seeing Rodney Mullen and just thinking, this guy is my hero! The shows, the skate style, the song choice; t was all awesome to me!
Skating has been an in and out part of my life but no matter what, anytime I was asked who my favorite athlete was, the answer was always Rodney! It’s crazy to think that I’m 28 now and this man is still out here demanding admiration.
It’s hard to put into words how much this man impacted my life. Not that I did anything worthy of note, but I remember at that age being introduced to his style and person and having that impact the way that I thought I could be; different, exceptional, humble, ma(genius). I am not those things, but Rodney was my introduction to this and every time I see him, I resonate on the same frequency as him and the 5 year old me and I almost feel tears as in reminded of how I was introduced to this beautiful world of skateboarding.
Thank you guys for pulling him by the ears till he agreed to be on camera for these interviews!

There was a reason why for sooooo long Rodney was on a path of inner self awareness and not being one to put much out....
Because it all came to the perfect time of now where everything he shares no matter what it is comes with a wisdom that is almost beyond us all yet shown through him how simple it can be if we just be a little humble while owning what we do best and play our part as best we can for the bigger picture!
This is what happens when you just let experience lead the way...
    EPIC!

This is PURE GOLD. If I had this podcast 25 years ago when I was 13 and just finding my idol Rodney for the first time, this would have changed my life so much. It's so incredible to see the 2 or maybe 3 worlds of skating come together and talk about their experiences. I never had that growing up. It was like bloods and crips, skiers and snowboarders, street and vert just never mixed. I hope the youth can truly see the deeper meaning behind this episode. So badass

Rodney and Tony never cease to amaze with their comebacks and the riveting stories that go with it. Lots of great wisdom peppered with hilarity .
Great to hear Rodney is back and skating after all the procedures he went through.
A lot of people would have thrown in the towel. This was a riveting informative and fun podcast.
It’s like the return of the king. Can’t wait for Rodney and Tony Ted type talks and hopefully some skating to go with it in April in Texas, I want to be watching even if I can’t be there in person.
