As a retired licensed contractor, carpenter of manly new home builds the last two thirds of my career I would like to tell you that you have a lot to be proud of. Not many people can build a house on their own period, much less of that caliber. To make yourself get up each day and work by yourself from daylight to dark is a lot harder than you would think. It takes a lot of self push and dedication. That roof build was incredible, should hold in the heat and out the bad weather. You did what only a very small percentage of people have done in the last 100 years. You have my fullest respect.
I think more builders will be respected for their dedication to build their homes and others with such high quality workmanship. Too many homes r built cheaply and homeowners regret it. Better to pay for good materials and qualified carpenters than most contractors. Not that all contractors r unqualified, too many corners r cut to save them money but not the owners. We have that problem here in Canada. And yes as a female I grew up doing alot of carpentry from my Papa. And I was rebuilding my home before I got hurt and couldn't continue. What puzzled me is why the logs weren't groove fitted on the corners to have the logs fit better on eachother? And top and bottom of logs flattened to fit like stacks? We have alot to learn from the Amish in how to make log cabins all from wood. Amazing woodwork they do is breathtaking. This place looks amazing too! Alot of hours and dedication. How long did it take to build this place?

I took the course in 2007 in Skip's house in Everett. So glad I did. Thanks for making this video. Very helpful and insightful. Peace to you from Alaska!
I watched this video from the beginning to the end , 9 months for you but only 29:08 minutes for me , What a good job for both of us . I especially ' liked ' the part where you fell through the floor . Most folks wouldn't have shown that part . Filming it allows the children to remember when they're adults the work that you did to give them a HOME , most parents film their children in embarrassing moments and then replay those pictures in front of the children's spouses later on in life .
This is one of the most entertaining videos I have seen anywhere! You are the most talented builder ever. I like doing my own building and I admire your work Thank you and your family for entertaining all of us.

That is very impressive for one man and his family to build such a big cabin. It looks like that house will stand for a very very long time. Congratulations.
Very Cool. I love how you used trees from your own property. Great skillset to be able to do all of that yourself. Be Proud of that. Your place looks amazing. Your kids will have a tale to tell for the rest of their lives. Amazing work.
I have never seen a log home built like that. Very innovative and impressive, not to mention you built the majority of it by yourself. Wow, just wow. Is this you’re own design?

New sub! "WOW" I started watching this video and I could not put it down! For someone to take crooked heavy local trees and actually build a beautiful soothing calming home is an Amazing feat!! And to have your wife and kids 100% behind you and helping is outstanding!! "Behind every successful man stands a strong woman" Dave you have some amazing carpentry skills!! How you hammered in all those rods into each log says quality/strength not only in your house but in you also, great intelligence coming up with that idea!! The Mead house is a well insulated fortress to with stand just about anything mother nature can throw at it!! Very well done home and video, "Congratulations" on your beautiful sweet home!! I am still Amazed!!
Wow absolutely loved that. Please keep them coming as you progress into the future, I'd love to watch your progress, Place is huge. I'd love to see you build the whole place up with gardens and out buildings. Cheers from a new subscriber from Down Under.
I used to chop firewood like that, lifted 350 lb logs into my truck, a 1941 Chevy when it was 40 below zero Fahrenheit. I'm 79 now, so don't work so hard, but I was a miner. What you need is a good old barn-raising, last one I did was on Bell Rd in Phoenix, AZ around 1985. I was 9 years old when I helped put in an addition to our house, its still there in N.J. You sure remind me of those days. Nice job. Earlier this year, I built a 10 x 10 storage shed but I had the floor poured. 😀
This what it;s all about! Dreams, sweat and blood and the result is your own unique home. The economics of the build don't even matter. What is important is the fact that you have touched every single wood, bolt, nut and nail in your house.
What a blessing you are to your family and God for utilizing your skills in such a responsible manner. A master craftsman for sure! God Bless you and your family.
I am in awe of this man’s skill sets. I wonder if he had to deal with a permitting process where he built this house. Where I live, restrictions, permits, fees, and inspections would made it nearly impossible for a one man crew to complete this project in nine months. All my respect for a job well done!
I'm delighted how you used crooked logs. I'm on 35 acres of pinion trees. They're not tall nor straight. Now I think I'll try it your way and make something amazing from them. Good job. Keep going !!!
From what some carpenters would call in my neck of the woods crap wood I’ve got to hand it to you because you’ve created a liveable spacious home, now that is a class act. 👍
All that in only 9 months. That's amazing. Unbelievable dedication. I hope it lasts you a lifetime and then some. Your kids are gonna have some nice memories.
Such an awesome build there guy you have done exactly what ive been setting myself up for and seeing you did it alone with the support of your family it gives me hope for doing the exact same but only a bit smaller
You're doing what Stephen on the Hickory Ridge channel and Jim on the Tradesman Channel did. Yall kill me building in areas with fantastic views, then putting in tiny or no windows.
Happily enjoyed watching this Video! One heck of a Big Log Home! All the Hard work, and seeing him and Family enjoying making Wonderfull memories!! Truly a Craftsman!!!
Amazing home! Pristine job Dave! Glad that your family have such a fine man like you... GOD BLESS! Quick question: I like the idea of foam in between logs. What kind of spray foam you used? How you protect from elements the foam exposed outside? You cover in wood like inside? Sorry about so many questions but you are an inspiration for me and I'll like to build same house (God willing) when I escape from this socialist state of Illinois. Looking for land (at least 50 acres) in East KY or TN. Do you have any tip to get land with timber, pasture and all year flowing creek for a decent price? I read that ideal is to not involve a realtor, rather to check areas that looks that no one lives there for years by myself and check with owner if is willing to sell. Thank you again!
thank you so much for your kind words god bless you too. the link to the foam is in my description, best stuff we ever used its the second cabin we used it on in 11 yrs. super strong and holds up great to the elements. we are putting mortar chinking over it on both the inside and out. its work great. more on this in a future video. pasture will be expensive, buy timber land with your house growing on it then turn flat areas that were once wooded into pasture..buying land with slopes or on a hillside like we did is cheaper and near water even if just a spring. i will have more info in a coming video where i show around the property and both cabins and build plans available too. no worries on the questions keep em coming!
Great job ur son getting the board in place with the hammer and yellong out i did it was priceless , you mistepping on the plywood and falling hit home as well , ive done it so many times myself , stay blessed
I sold a couple properties in 2020 and I'm waiting for a house crash to happen so I buy cheap. In the meantime, I've been looking at stocks as an alt., any idea if it's a good time to buy? I hear people say it's a madhouse and a dead cat bounce right now but on the other hand, I still see and read articles of people pulling over $225k by the weeks in trades, how come?
True, the US-Stock Market had been on it’s longest bull-run in history, so the mass hysteria and panic is relatable, considering we’re not accustomed to such troubled markets, but as you mentioned there are avenues lurking around if you know where to look, I’ve netted over $850k in the past 10months and it wasn't some rocket-science start. I applied , I just knew I needed a firm and reliable technique to navigate better in these times, so I hired a portfolio advisor.

That was very interesting to hear you left the city and went to the wilderness off grid, I must say that was a very good decision. Now you are self sufficient being off the grid no more expensive energy bills. You have a forest of trees to burn in your cabin and now all you need is to get water service fed into the cabin and electricity. Electricity is a must these days for TV, lights and etc. Don't forget the plumbing for the bathrooms and shower. You did an excellent job so far, keep up the good work.

A fellow LHBA member! I thought I recognized that Skip style log building method. Excellent build. Looks real cozy. Hope to start my own this or next summer. I took the course in 2007 in Skip's house in Everett. So glad I did. Thanks for making this video. Very helpful and insightful. Peace to you from Alaska!
Thx man!
Thanks so much! that part makes us all laugh lol good times!
Well worth the blood, sweat and tears. Fabulous result. You should be very proud of your work.
Thank you so much!
This is one of the most entertaining videos I have seen anywhere! You are the most talented builder ever. I like doing my own building and I admire your work Thank you and your family for entertaining all of us.
Wow, thanks! Happy holidays to you and yours!

That is very impressive for one man and his family to build such a big cabin. It looks like that house will stand for a very very long time. Congratulations.
Thank you so much 🙏
Fantastic, Your Family are living the life.
Craftsmanship at its Best.
Thank you so much!
Very Cool. I love how you used trees from your own property. Great skillset to be able to do all of that yourself. Be Proud of that. Your place looks amazing. Your kids will have a tale to tell for the rest of their lives. Amazing work.
Thank you very much!
Dude’s a stud and so is his family. Awesome video!!! Thanks.
Thank you!!
I have never seen a log home built like that. Very innovative and impressive, not to mention you built the majority of it by yourself. Wow, just wow. Is this you’re own design?
Thx 🙏 it’s the lhba skip Ellsworth method I designed the floor plan of my house to suit my large family needs
You are not even my son and yet I am so very proud of you. My husband and I just love your video> We love your kids too!! Y'all be so blessed in abundance!!

I almost cried when the video ended. What a magnificent build. You definitely got a new subscriber and a fan
Awesome, thank you so much! happy holidays!
Thank you very much 🙏 God bless you and your family
Heck yeah! That was raw and satisfying. Congrats. I work alone too. It’s amazing what you can get done when you’re motivated.
thank you! and it truly is - we are capable of so much more than we realize. thanks for watching

Most remarkable video I’ve watched on RUclips. I got a lot of good ideas 💡
Wow, thanks! glad it helped!
Wow absolutely loved that. Please keep them coming as you progress into the future, I'd love to watch your progress,
Place is huge.
I'd love to see you build the whole place up with gardens and out buildings.
Cheers from a new subscriber from Down Under.
Thank you so much and will do! Stay safe happy holidays to you and yours
thank you and thanks for watching! ive never been afraid of hard work...love a challenge
Loved the build it's a credit to u and your family an awful lot of hard work well done.
Thank you!
This what it;s all about! Dreams, sweat and blood and the result is your own unique home. The economics of the build don't even matter. What is important is the fact that you have touched every single wood, bolt, nut and nail in your house.
Thank you so much! happy holidays to you and yours!
This is max level diy! What an inspiration you guys are! I love it! I will keep watching all your videos and clicking all those links lol.
Thx Meg!
What a blessing you are to your family and God for utilizing your skills in such a responsible manner. A master craftsman for sure! God Bless you and your family.
Thank you so much God bless 🙏
I am in awe of this man’s skill sets. I wonder if he had to deal with a permitting process where he built this house. Where I live, restrictions, permits, fees, and inspections would made it nearly impossible for a one man crew to complete this project in nine months. All my respect for a job well done!
You must live in California, Just A Guess.
Thanks!
I'm delighted how you used crooked logs. I'm on 35 acres of pinion trees. They're not tall nor straight. Now I think I'll try it your way and make something amazing from them. Good job. Keep going !!!
Go for it! Thx for watching!
Thank you 🙏
Such an awesome build there guy you have done exactly what ive been setting myself up for and seeing you did it alone with the support of your family it gives me hope for doing the exact same but only a bit smaller
Thanks man go for it you can do it!
You give me hope.I wish all the best for you and your family.
Thank you 🙏
You're doing what Stephen on the Hickory Ridge channel and Jim on the Tradesman Channel did. Yall kill me building in areas with fantastic views, then putting in tiny or no windows.
good big windows are expensive haha! plus i like the strength of the logs being higher percentage of the wall, thx for watching!
Happily enjoyed watching this Video! One heck of a Big Log Home! All the Hard work, and seeing him and Family enjoying making Wonderfull memories!! Truly a Craftsman!!!
Thank you!
I know it was not, but you did make it look easy, you have just sent hundreds of off grid builders out
looking for land to build huge cabins.
Cheers.
Thank you very much! It makes me happy to think that I can inspire people to go out and live their dream 🙏 anyone can do this
Stunning, however, back breaking hard work... God bless you & your family...
Thank you!
@@tribeofdavid8 Thank you so much taking from your time to answer to my questions! Can't wait for future videos! Take care all of you
Great job ur son getting the board in place with the hammer and yellong out i did it was priceless , you mistepping on the plywood and falling hit home as well , ive done it so many times myself , stay blessed
Thank you 🙏 you too
I actually laughed out loud at 21:15
Great build, mate. It's always fun to see a new style of building.
Thank you very much the entire family enjoys a laugh at my expense when we watch that part
I laughed too, so recognizable....
Love that he kept his mishaps in the video. Real life. Great stuff my guy.
Thank you 🙏
Can’t beat the joy of building something for yourself and yours.

Out of this world cabin build! Half modern and half rustic. Congratulations on your build. It's a lot of work.
Thank you 🙏
Very clever man, your children will always remember doing this with you guys.
Hello Prof. of woodworks! Great lecture with your imagination and speech with your hands. It's your very own paradise. Enjoy with your family and pet. I enjoyed watching every minute of it.
So nice of you, thank you!
You are excellent Father and blessed with excellent supporting family. Praise be to Almighty God.
Loved the roof system 👍 roofer here. You done well and will last 100 plus years except the neoprene washers. 20 yrs till replacement. Nice job 😊👍

@@masterplumber298 thank you 🙏
I love this! But I think I'm more jealous of the fact that you have persimmon trees on your property...mmmm persimmon pudding🤤
WOW. Incredible effort & result. The satisfaction must be Huge.
Very! thanks!
Awesome job, and great for your children to see you build them a home. They will grow up confident, independent and doers in life!
Thank you 🙏
That was very interesting to hear you left the city and went to the wilderness off grid, I must say that was a very good decision.
Very nice cabin you got there!! It is really nice the way ya'll put the videos together, one can really see how it is all coming together. Thanks for letting "us" view the build. I'm looking forward to seeing it thru completion.
🙏
Beautifully engineered roof, but a bit over kill. A man's man
