I have seen grouper feeding on the surface in the bay before, we though they were jacks, we have only seen it once. Quick question, I know how the rock piles go straight out, when one hits why don't you move left or right (if people and poles are not in the way) vs straight back giving the fish time to get back into the rocks since the rock piles are long not wide. I know in-between the rocks there is no structure. Just a thought. Very nice fish, thoughts on the season being drastically cut short? Also, what do you look for in overall conditions you look for, tide, fronts, just when you have time :) Thanks
I’ve seen them come up and ate a threadfin I free lined off the skyway pier! It was Insane I again thought it was a dolphin! 😂 You can try to pull them away from the rock piles by moving left or right. I’ve tried doing that but they’re so strong, it’s hard to get them away from the rocks sometimes. Plus there are probably smaller structure down there that we can’t see. Season being cut short is a bummer for us recreational anglers for sure. I’ve only caught 1 keeper so far this season. I understand if it was for federal water cause of the commercial fishermen and offshore fishing is a lot easier than inshore fishing. So they crush it almost everytime they go out.
Thanks Thonny for another exciting informational video, GOOD JOB!! I know you buy quality products, what brand glasses are you wearing? Regards from Lakeland 👍
I wanna say in the high 70s that day definitely cooler water temp. But the gags will still chew in the summer months like June and July! Typically earlier in the morning or evening
There's so much concrete and rebar out there .. and lots of broken lines .. I've hooked many grouper out there and lost most of them including to dolphins...
skyway starting oct 1st will require a test before you can fish and no more sabikis rigs no more tri hooks and whole bunch of new rules - the bird ppl ruined it , most are boycotting it - FWC req too much
Like this comment if you want to see more grouper fishing vids!

Oh yeah! Sometimes the dolphin can get real bad. Thanks for watching!

Had to! 😂
Nice catch! Great fight with the grouper!! Huge!! Thanks Thonn for the videos!❤
Appreciate it! 👊
Great thank you
What hooks do you recommend
6/0 or 7/0 circle! When fishing off the pier. But fishing off a boat you can get away with 5/0
This is awesome thanks
Nice gag! Do you just freeline the pinfish?
Yes free line!
What did you use for bait and rig when catching bait?
Pinfish! Free line method on heavy combo

Great video. About how far do you think the pinfish was from the bridge when the groupers hit?
20-30 yards! Sometimes less than 20 yards
Your videographer has some nice skills bro. That's a heck of a fish too!
Thank you!! 👊
That cinematography 🔥🔥🔥
🙌 🙌
Another good video, Thonny. What do you do to keep the pinfish from rocking you?
Don’t let them swim too deep! Control it by holding the line if you feel like it’s going too deep. It’s about 20-30ft off the pier
@@Thonnythanks bro
As always, vid is on point. Congrats on the gag.
I appreciate it! 👊 more to come
Vid 2 of commenting if we can get a full Thonny arsenal video. Sickest combos in the game 🔥
His Arsenal is vast I have on good authority lol
Comin soon!
Love the skyway video! X2
Appreciate it! More to come
What size line and leader do you use for grouper?
50lb braid! And 80lb leader. Can’t wait to get out there again!
Well done Thonny.
Thank you! 👊
Thanks Thonny for another exciting informational video, GOOD JOB!! I know you buy quality products, what brand glasses are you wearing?

Glad you enjoyed it! I wear Smith basecamp with bronze glass lenses
You owned that grouper!!!
They’re not easy!! Probably my favorite fish to target off that pier!
What rig set up are you running here ?
Nice fish bro
Appreciate it!

Anytime really! As long as that water is moving! I like the south pier
@@Thonny oh okay cool cool thanks 🙏🏼 thonny and keep making dope video and i want more grouper videos
Great video!
Thank you!
You can use legal snapper for bait BTW. I asked FWC and they confirmed.
❤great vid. Muscle those fish.
They’re so strong!
What was the water temperature?
I wanna say in the high 70s that day definitely cooler water temp. But the gags will still chew in the summer months like June and July! Typically earlier in the morning or evening
Nice Grouper Tacos!
Oh yeah! Let’s get on em soon!
Good stuff!
Thank you!
🤘🏻😎🤘🏻
Awesome stuff dude
Thank you!
What a beast 😀💪
Thanks Bush!
That’s is what all fishermen want is a strong fight. The grouper are great table fare also.
They throw down! The tug is the drug
Are there less people out there with the new regs? Hopefully some of the "bubba's" got discouraged w new regs and stop going. Nice fish.
About the same amount of people as always!
Did that big one eat the pin fish that had the scar?
No it hit a different pinfish. Dolphin got the one with the scar 😂
@@Thonny darn I was gonna say good luck pin fish
Why not sabinki rig to speed that up??
There's so much concrete and rebar out there .. and lots of broken lines .. I've hooked many grouper out there and lost most of them including to dolphins...
The dolphins are so bad at the south pier! There are 3 of them now. They make it extremely hard to fish for grouper there

Always wondered what you do for a living? Quite certain it’s not RUclips.
No weight? Just free line?
That’s it!
Would love to smoke down with you on a joint in the key west and catch some gnarly looking fish
Let’s go
