Love your videos. As a respectful angler i would love to see your fish released head first. I know it might not make a big deal but it helps it helps to insure a quick come back especially if there are predatory sharks and such around. Keep up the good work buddy!
Spent 14 hours at the south pier yesterday targeting grouper with pin fish and got skunked. Ended up with a cooler full of mackerel though. Lost a 3’ cobia trying to lift him on to the pier. Immediately brought a drop net from Amazon. Love the Chanel man.
Glad to see that you are landing them, I have been loosing way to many even with running back as soon as they thump it lol. You win some, you loose some. Try putting your bait underneath the pier along side the pillars at the end, I have seen some beasts pulled up from there. Awesome vid man!
Two things, home made bait rig with 15 lbs and pink will last long than the hooks. Secondly I prefer squid tentacles over shrimp for catching bait. Stays on the hook for several baits over shrimp. I was on the south Skyway for bait for the 10 hr Hubbard's trip. Got over 2 dozen pigs and panfish in about 1.5 hrs.
Extra heavy 8ft rod with 10k size reel. 80lb braid with 6ft 80lb leader. 7/0 circle hook no weights! Free lining is gonna be your best bet and just hold on!
That's a slick technique of using the bucket to safely grab em without getting stuck. What the best tide to get the bait to the bottom? I find too much current keeps my bait at the top of water.
Your making it look easy bro. Props hands down. I fish here a decent amount and it’s not as easy as it seems. I see your free lining though as to where I normally fish a bottom rig. Definitely gonna switch it up and try that out. We need to link up. Nice fish brotha💪🏼
Another great video. Thanks for including the tackle you used! Since your free lining bait and fishing the rock piles...does water/tide movement matter as much? Also where is your preference for hooking the bait?
I can catch 23 inch grouper off that bridge all dam day both sides. I have not figured out where the big ones are yet. I know the rock piles and where some of the holes are. Do you have any kinda sounding map?
@@Thonny would I be crazy to break out my 10’ 6” MH rod with 50lb test for grouper or should I be good with my 7’ 6” MH with 50lb test? Just wanna try and catch one coming from Ny lol
Hey thonny , was looking at your last name , what nationality are you ? And it's Mid December 2020, what do "you" usually fish for during the winter months ?
I'm gonna give you a recipe for 30 inchers on the skyway cut a round of Spanish mackerel or the head on a 7/0 circle rigged with a 2oz on a knocker rig drop it on the reef and wait patiently trust me you won't forget that grouper.
@@Thonny it was the best bait I've ever used for them at the skyway also if you can get to the wreck near the rest area on the north pier try it only place you can catch keeper grouper in 5 feet of water it's crazy . I'm in Rhode island now waiting for the stripper migration HMU if you want some good spots in the bay . Good luck tight lines .
G Merc that’s too light for grouper fishing off the pier. The structure is bad down there. You need an 8000 size reel with a lot of drag and a stout rod 50-100lb class. Look how my rod is bending in the video and that’s a 50-100lb class rod. Imagine fighting them with a medium action rod.

Also, use 2 hands releasing it head first so the fish dives head first without belly flopping. Better yet, use a landing net for landing them and also releasing them. It's easier on those breeders.
Like this comment if you want to see more gag grouper fishing videos! :)
Hey whats up I like your videos. Which pier was on I this video?
@@toughrodfishing3433 Looks like Northside pier.
@@brianallyn5308 thanks I want to try it out for some gags one day

Coastal Tides Outdoors I appreciate that brother! I’ll have to give it a try.
You need a bridge net. Dont let them slam on the pavement.

Way to bounce him off the concrete. Good going. Beautiful release dropping him on his side. Representing for the googan squad I see.
That was a nice fight
What set up were you using for the pinfish?
Mainline weight, and leader weight. Did you use a Carolina or knocker rig? And what size egg sinker?

Hi can you please show us your gopro setup and settings it would really help
I used shrimp for a long time and then I started using squid. It last so much longer for pin fish, just me

I know when he's fishing the greens backs grunts and pins he hooks them on the bottom just before the tail
Good tips. What's your biggest grouper off the Skayway?
Rad Reeling Fishing my biggest grouper was 26 inches
@@Thonny That's excellent. I love your videos!
The Dolphins are terrible out there. I can't keep a live bait without it getting snatched by a Dolphin.
Jeffrey Waters I hear ya man!
Like your videos...
Excellent vid. what pound braid and what pound leader? what rod and reel? thanks
nvr mind, just read the description
That release was brutal. Ease them down in a net so they have a chance.

How much is it to park on that bridge?
Pretty sure I have seen that Tacoma around tampa.
Soooooo close to a grouper sammy!
What kind of a hook and size do you use for grouper??
6/0 owner mutu light circle hooks or 6/0 trokar circle hooks

Nice vid ! are you using any weight or a jig head or just free lining?
mark - straight free line!!
What is going on...same size fish usually scool together because of hatching at the same time.
When are that best days to catch grouper ? Does that moon and tides matter ? Summer or fall
alexmundodivertido Winter
I seen you there today
Great video, but u should try landing the fish a little softer.
Hey Thonny did you lift your Tacoma?
Do you prefer the north or south pier?
South!!

Katy Chau check out the st. croix mojo salt series 8’ 40-65lb class

I will be soon!! It’s been a while
You think a 4000 Spinfisher could hold up out there?
Yes for certain things like mange, sheeeps and few others but no not for what he is doing.
D. Moreno depends on what your targeting if you’re going for grouper I’d go with a bigger sized reel like and 8k Saragossa or 6500 Spinfisher
Not good to leave them on hot pavement like that stripe the slime coat off. But nice fish dude
Ken Randall thanks for watching!!
Are you on the North or South side?
Patrick Hutchison North
Outgoing?
Jeff Moore yeah man
U gotta handle your fish better bro. Bouncing them on the concrete isn't a good look.
